Sailing a Catalina 34 from San Diego to Coronado Island in May 2023. Great conditions with steady 15-18 knots WNW. Total trip 42 miles in 7 hours. One full hour with the spinnaker on a broad reach. Sail around the Middle Coronado Island counterclockwise. Return going upwind with one tack to get in the SD channel.

Yo, i use to live off Point Loma. Watching you man handle it made me realize i was being a little bitch.
Wow really great breeze. I was trying to get a good look at those sails but the shot off the stern was beautiful with Point Loma in the distance. I'm in HB but have sailed there in SD several years ago. Once belonged to the Navy sailing club there on Coronado.

Yep brand new Precision Sails. Genoa at 125%. Able to point higher. Going faster in light wind. and love my new reef setup with dogbone + block in sail. Thanks for the comments

Excellent video … thanks! My first keelboat was a Catalina 22 back in the 80’s … currently sailing a Melonseed skiff. If I was to get back into sailing a keelboat … methinks a Catalina 34 would be a great boat … have heard good things about this model! ⛵️🙂
Thanks... Greenville is a nice wooden boat. Love it. And I learned to sail in Quebec lakes. Mostly in Magog, but raced dinghies also on the Lac des deux montagnes and the Lac St-Louis.
@@frassepelle7444 Wow … small world! Grenville is a Roger Crawford Melonseed skiff with fibreglass hull and teak trim/rudder and Douglas Fir spars. I watched your video because I’m looking at a Catalina 34 that is for sale in Ontario … not sure yet if I’m ready to get back into a keelboat now that I’m retired but that 34 really looks good! The boat I’m looking at is a 2006 limited edition model.

On that day ... 6 to 7knots. avg for the day 5.5knots including motoring.

Hi Dale... thanks for your comments. The dodger was installed in 2010 by Pacific Crest Canvas in Alameda, Ca by a previous owner. We just added the bimini installed by Pacific Coast Canvas in San Diego. The design is based on a Beneteau located next to us. All cover accessories done by us ... Sail Stack Pack, Companion way, Nav/Wheel, Winches.

Nice late model mk1.5! Must be about 1993 or 1994 based on the reduced teak, Lewmar Ocean winches and integral stern rail seats on the pushpit. I have a 1991 and wish for all those things :-) thanks for taking us out sailing.
Thanks for the positive comments. Actually it was built in 1995 and one of the last Mk1.5. In the end, the Cat 34 is a great boat, whether it is a Mk 1, MK1.5 or Mk2. It is fast, easy to handle and strongly built for a coastal cruiser. I am sure you enjoy yours as well.

Salut, c'est avant ma naissance a moi aussi. Le plus etonnant de cette video est que l'on reconnait tres bien la piste Trois Ruisseaux qui a bien peu changee. J'ai skie toute ma jeunesse a Orford de 1972 a 1988... merci a mes parents!

Yes, it is for the dinghy. If you look on the video, you will see a folded Porta Bote 8ft dinghy on deck.
