Never dealt with a Jimmy over the road-my experience is with stationary power-early in my Aviation career-late 70's early 80's-the Navy/Marine Corps had several ground power units available for the aircraft-one was called an NC-8-was powered by a 3-53-looked like a cheese box on wheels-used the gen set it powered for both propulsion as well as aircraft supply. Dangerous little bastards. Was OK for smaller types such as the A-4. The F-4-on which I was a crew chief-required more steady state juice-thus the NC-10-powered by a 6-71. With a hydraulic starter. Fun stuff indeed for a barely 18 year old kid to play with.

    Old memories. We had a place called Tate Machinery in Utah when I was a kid. They sold Terex. Next door was Catapliar. Across the street Case. Next to them John deer. One stop shopping for contractors. A big boy toy store that us kids dreamed of just getting to climb all over and want to get to run one or all of them.

    This looks really fun to drive. I hate the modern trucks with the automated transmissions and engines where all you can hear is the clutch fan that's always stuck on.

      @@Joaofigas1 It'd be miserable on the freeway, for sure. But I'd love to run the length of Hoghway 93 in Montana and Idaho in this. I have a high tolerance for racket from my love of vintage 2-stroke motorcycles. I'd anticipate my largest annoyance with this would be the handling. On modern trucks, my biggest annoyance is all the goofy opinions of the computers.

      It's not bad for about 20 minutes of driving around. But anything high speed and constant rpm I wear ear protection.

      @jaminstewart2444 I more or less live with ear protection all the time. I daily a soft-top convertible, my pickup is a straight-piped V8, and my work semi has a cacophony of squeaks and rattles. I've done 250mi days on my expansion-chamber 400 2-stroke. So I usually always have my noise-canceling headphones or ear plugs in. But the thing just looks like it responds in a fun way. I miss being necessary in the work truck. I'm just hired to babysit the computers that actually drive the truck. Just put your foot to the floor and let HAL-9000 >execute program.

      Reason why the Horton fan is always on is 'cause of the Air Conditioning is always on-turn the system OFF & enjoy peace & quiet-the fan clutch kicks in when there is high temp in the Freon.

      Still has bias ply 10.0x20s on the front. So yes it Shakes from 40-50mpg some. Lol.

    Did you say 16V71 Detroits in the back, (and 8V71's in the front)? Wow, that is cool! Can you imagine the melody of those two engines!?! I ran with an O/O once that had a 12V71 in a K-100 (mid 1980's). Actually, he and I got pulled over by smokey on Hwy 99, between Chowchilla and Madera for exceeding the posted limit. Man could he ever move on!! Those were the days my friend.

      6v71 in the back. It's rare to hear a detroit anymore. But I live in Christmas tree land. So during cutting season the old 2stroke trucks come out of the barns.

My only really unpleasant experience with the Detroits was when I had to drive a 5 ton International flat nose flatbed truck with a 4v53 Series motor. The little dog house was right there beside you, very, very noisy! I also drove an old Jimmy crackerbox with a 6-71 in it. Top speed was 48 mph! - but that sound!! That beautiful sound.

      It's very quiet. Single exhaust and a good muffler. Have to really be hammering up a hill to get some bark out if it.

    How about abit more info ? Where is it & is it for sale ? Look behind the drivers seat. The factory plate is there. P.s. the small sleeper is became, it not the standard 86 inch cab..that one is the 72 inch cab. Likely, a 318...with RT9513 TRANS, WITH SQ-100 REARENDS.

      @@jaminstewart2444 Stewart, I think I drove Freightliner C/O's more than any other kind of rig for sure! It is a real love/hate relationship. Those things ruined my spine but I love the darn things anyway. It would be a hoot to hang out with you sometime. I'm thinking we're not far from each other. I think all the really good old time trucks have already been found since the hobby has really taken off in the last twenty years. I'm sure there might still be a few left out there in the bushes somewhere. If you need some company when you go to Eastern Oregon let me know. I would LOVE to go with you. I am 74, I don't smoke cigarettes, and I would pay my own expenses and help with the gas. Let me know as this being retired gets pretty boring. And I have diesel in my veins. If I remember my dreams they are usually about trucks, my military service, or my ex-wives, in that order. Just last night I dreamed I was driving a friend's KW cabover and I ran out of motion lotion and was stranded. Then I don't know what happened because I had to wake up for a 10-100. I live 6 miles north of the TA in Coburg.

    Hello my friend, I just found this other video of yours tonight. I guess I was full of it with my other comments about the 4x3 tranny in your White Freightliner! I've never ran across a C/O with a 5x3!! Wow. It just goes to prove my #1 rule about being a trucker; "If you pay attention you can always learn something new". I have driven two different Pete C/O's with married 4x4's, but not 5x4's - typically those were in old conventionals, as I'm sure you are aware of. BTW, are you in Oregon? I noticed you have a video of the truck show in Brooks. Many years ago I was a member of the Truck Museum there, back when they first got going. I now live between Harrisburg and Coburg, out in the middle of the grass fields. Take care my friend.

      Front brakes always surprise me on the older trucks. I think the hitch was added because the trailer used to be a low boy with a single axle. They added those tandems under it later in life, making it tall.

    I noticed that is has the Optional Factory Aquarium Headlights... And they're still full water!.... Haha! That would be a decent Candidate for a Restoration... But man, it'd probably cost 2-3 times the money that it would take to do say a B-Model or something similar... Imagine trying to find Parts, Gaskets, Drive Line Components, Etc... Depending on what for Axles are under it, it might be a Nightmare to even find Brake Hardware.... But for the Right Price, I'd still probably take her along home... If it were For Sale... If worse came to worse, I'd set The Cab and Front End on a different Chassis....

    This video is all fine and good. However, I actually drove trucks like these, and much, much older when I was trucking to feed my family, many, many years ago. Those were the "Golden Years". Having a Jake Brake was a real luxury, not a common feature. The first commercial truck I drove was a 1958 Pete. The second truck I ever drove was a 1952 Cornbinder. Also had my turn in a 1947 Pete, and a 1948 KW. I thought I was moving up in the world when I got to drive a 1962 Freightshaker. And so on, and so on.

      @oldtrucker672 It's a 65. Originally pulled a chip trailer. Then had a cat hauler bed on it. It has logs gear on it now. Which i may keep and put a trailer on it to make it ride better

If the truck already has a bunk on it then it would really look great to pick up a log trailer to set up there. That would make it look really sharp! I'm thinking you could pick up an old worn out trailer from someone like wit-log pretty reasonable. That would be fun to take to truck shows and parades. The trailer would be just enough weight to smooth out the ride too. It wouldn't even have to be serviceable. I drove log truck for some years so I'm kind of partial. You just never saw too many C/O's used as log trucks. Pretty special.
