Currently trying to introduce one kitten to another. Resident kitten is not happy with her new sister😅

In the middle of introducing two kittens and it’s going.. pretty bad. They eat together just fine on opposite sides of a mesh screen (so they can definitely see and smell one another) but as soon as the food is gone… the hissing, and growling starts. Resident kitten and new kitten have never even properly sniffed one another like yours did, every time they meet at the mesh door (without food), resident kitty will get super aggressive, hissing, growling, back arched etc. doesn’t even bother to try and smell first. At a loss 🫠

Love the synchronicity, I just adopted a 6 mo old black cat that I'm trying to introduce to my grumpy bengal.

How long did it take?? I just adopted a kitten (1y, 15d). There has been no hissing or aggression. The kitten does NOT care for treats. My original cat (2y 11m) loves treats. I have already done the swapping of toys and bedding as well as the swapping of rooms. I didn't see any ears pulled back or hissing so I assumed I was okay to move to the next step. I wasn't sure if it was too fast because it has only been a few days. I haven't heard anything bad from either one. The most I have gotten was an agitated tail movement from my original cat. I have a barrier at the door of the room of the kitten because the door has a huge gap under it. My original cat has tried to reach for the kitten's tail while I was in the room playing and the kitten did not respond negatively. The kitten kind of ignored my cat and did not seem agitated. Should I move to the next step? Because I'm thinking of just staying at "looking under the door" for a minute and doing that a few minutes each day like 20 minutes each day.

I let mine have a brief meeting. I think it’s good to let them see exactly who is on the other side of the door

Can this work for cats who had a rough introduction and 2 months after getting the new kitten they get into a fight where they NEED to be separated because now the resident cat is stressed? Current situation and we are currently going all the way back to the beginning as if they never met

Got my 8 month old bengal and a day later a 3 month old ragdoll kitten as a companion and my bengal hates the kitten, the kitten behaves like he’s on meth and doesn’t respect my bengals boundaries and when he smells the kitten he hisses, wants nothing to do with him. Got him a little buddy because his old mom said he always tried to play with her cat and he didn’t like him and he was sad 😭 he seems really content on his own just cuddling with me Meanwhile the kitten is crying non stop, making us bleed and ruining our furniture. I thought their behaviour would be the other way around lol. Nothing is going according to plan and I’m so sad 😭 I just hope they will become friends eventually

It's makes a difference if it's a kitten versus two full grown cats and it also makes a difference if there are two or more while introducing a new single and on and on. There are general guidelines and I agree with you that this can be a long process or you can get lucky and they blend well quickly.
