What Every Pet Owner Needs to Know About Ear Infections
Ear infections in dogs are more than an annoyance-they can lead to severe health issues if left untreated. In this video, Dr. Sean McPeck, owner of Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center in Alaska, explains everything you need to know about ear infections, from the causes to the symptoms and the best treatments available.
Did you know dogs with floppy ears are more prone to infections due to the dark, moist environment of their ear canals? Swimming, allergies, and even diet can increase the risk, and without proper care, your dog could suffer from chronic infections, hearing loss, or painful conditions like aural hematomas.

Best way your dog can avoid heat and orthopedic injuries on the trail
Why do you sound like you don't know what your talking about
I have an 80 lb Goldendoodle with a very long and thick coat of fur. He loves the snow and cold. Coldest thus far has been 10° and he did not want to come inside. I bundle up every day and we play outside in the cold and snow for about 30 minutes. I'm the one crying to go back in! 🥶😂🐕
I put space heater in dog house during winter
When i think about sick or hurt animals, i dont correlate that with rifles. Makes me wonder how you guys euthanize....
Fun fact! Bordetella bronchiseptica is also zoonotic and children and immunocompromised people are the most susceptible to contracting it!
My dog, age 9, who has always had a ball or round plush toy in her mouth when not working, had to have an incisor and a farthest back top molar extracted two days ago. When the veterinarian checked her mouth at the annual visit, he asked if she carried balls around. He introduced me then to “ball mouth,” or , “tennis ball mouth” which is exactly as you describe. For other commenters, believe it or don’t. I know it to be true. My dog is uncomfortable and on a soft diet till her mouth heals. The bill was a blow, particularly to someone living on disability benefits. And I don’t know what to do now to help her stay entertained. She is literally obsessed with balls and plush toys. Are rubber balls any better than tennis balls and round plush toys? She is toy driven, not at all food driven. When I wake in the morning, I often find 4-5 toys tucked under me or on my pillow for safe keeping while she sleeps. Suggestions, please? And thank you for putting the word out!
I treated my cat using this human medication : Amoxicillin 250mg/5mL. It comes as a small bottle with powder that you need to mix with water according to the instructions provided with the medication. My cat was experiencing a blockage and could only pass two drops at most. He kept running back and forth between his two litter boxes, at least 10 times within 5 minutes. I gave him this Amoxicillin treatment for a week, but by the fourth day, he already seemed completely cured. In addition to the Amoxicillin, I applied one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to the sides of his abdomen daily for a week. I didn’t dilute it because he refused to take it by syringe. However, if your pet accepts it, you can give it directly with a syringe-just one teaspoon mixed with one teaspoon of water should be enough. Also, very importantly: I completely stopped giving him kibble for 10 days! Now my cat is healed, and it’s been more than a year and a half without any recurrence of this problem. I’ve resumed giving him kibble, but no more than a small bowl per day, and I carefully monitor his water intake. If I feel he isn’t drinking enough, I give him foods like cucumbers, watermelon, or melon, which are high in water content. If he refuses those, I force-feed him a mixture of coconut water and honey using a syringe. Occasionally, I also rub a bit of apple cider vinegar on his fur to encourage him to lick it off. This issue can come back, so be cautious and avoid repeating past mistakes. The dosage is 5 to 12 mg per pound (10 to 25 mg per kilogram) per dose, administered 2 times a day for 7 days. My cat, Kuro, weighed 4.5 kg (10 lb), so the appropriate dose for him was 50 to 120 mg per dose. For Amoxicillin 250mg/5mL, 1 mL equals 50 mg. I gave Kuro 1.5 mL per dose (75 mg) , 2 times a day for 7 days and he was completely healed the 4th day. I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if it works for your cat, and if it does, I encourage you to share this information online to help other pets and their owners. I plan to share this message on other RUclips videos about this topic as well. I still remember how devastated I felt when I discovered my cat had this issue. Watching videos of how vets treat it made me cry so much.
I suspect has authorious so i stopped taking him out when its cold .i wait untill its atleast warmed up abit .hes a american bulldog and the cold makes him limp .he gets mardy when i leave him in
He’s not answering any questions people is asking !! He doesn’t understand how expensive Veterinary Services are and people can’t afford it.

I have two Kangals and they weigh 100 lbs each. There is a lot of shelter they can get to outside but they refuse to come in . They have warm food, cLean water and their own beds inside but they just want to stay outside and freeze. In the hot summer they like to come in but I cannot get them inside when it is 15. This seems dangerous to me but unless I have some help and drag them in they will spend the night outside. We have five acres fenced in with trees , A little pond and fun things if it is warm. I am tired of going to the door every twenty minutes in case they have changed their minds.
My cat had a uti and was treated with antibiotics about two weeks ago. On Saturday we noticed him straining again. He began to crash over night. We took him to the vet on Sunday and they sedated him to insert a catheter. He died on the operating table. He was only 5 years old. People don't talk enough about how fragile cats are how to care for them.
what makes this happen?
Hello we live in Italy and our 8 years old stray dog has started che chemo therapia CHOP one month ago. He has a large cell lymphoma :( Now we've heard that the drug Tanovea is helping a lot of dogs with lymphom. We are desperately searching for someone who can help us to receive Tanovea. Is there any chance to buy it from somewhere in USA?
That like saying you shoulder neuter human males

Ridiculously awesome. Thanks for watching. Happy Holidays.
You’re an amazing vet and mom. Newborns sleep so much anyway, so as long as you feel ok this İs a great idea. The animals need you too! Congratulations mommy!❤🍼🧿❤️🧿🍼❤️🧿🍼

This dude is full of bullshit. Where the articles proving your statements? People please do your own research, spaying and neutering your dogs is terrible. They need their sex hormones to live a healthy life just like we do. It’s the same as neutering a human, same side effects. Please do your own research people
I get those orange rubbery ones without fuzz. Theres a specific one that has just enough feedback to where my dog can squish out all the air its the best fidget dog toy ive ever seen. He can sit forever just squishing the ball in his mouth over and over
Don't the dogs feel ashame, as if we can detect their feelings
The Doberman is my #1 favorite breed. We are having ours done. Our pup is from a long lineage of titled working dogs (not "show dogs", but European IPO3 lines). Physically, this keeps the dog sleek and tight. The natural tails are very long and our home isn't huge, so theres that. I have known several dogs to have tail amputations as adults for continuous trauma to the tail. I understand the ears are mostly asthetic, but wonder about risk of infection in natural ears. However, one of the purposes of our Doberman is to deter criminals from either breaking onto our property or approaching us with ill intent out of our home. A cropped and docked Doberman absolutely deters people from these things, where a natural one may not (they look like hounds). The PURPOSE of this breed is to protect the owner & family while being a good companion. I envy those who work with breeds that don't have cropping & docking. They have it easy. I absolutely understand WHY people don't like it. However, we still circumcise baby boy humans out of habit. Is that child abuse?
so your house size doesn't accommodate your dog and you're getting the ears cropped for the esthetic purpose of having a scary dog. there is no study linking ear infection to floppy ears and there is ABSOLUTELY no evidence or study that proves cropped ear dogs deter criminals over normal dogs. and yes male circumcision is unnecessary other than religion or cultural and is done by doctors for the same reason she says vets crop ears. because those who follow those religions or cultures will opt to "do it themselves or find someone who will"
I work for Amazon and had a position in a corporate office for a year. I took my dog Ella, a friendly, well-behaved Mini Schnauzer to work with me 6 days a week my 12-hour shifts. I took breaks because she needed to be walked. It was wonderful for us both. She was very popular among the employees there and had more friends than I did. I also met more people as a result of having Ella with me. She provided “emotional support” to all who came to visit her. I changed jobs within Amazon and can no longer take Ella with me to work. I miss having her with me and hate leaving her alone for the 12-13 hours while I am at work each day. 😢
Absolutely amazing! Beautiful job. ❤️🐾
So my dog ate one raisin will he be okay?
Thank you! 🥰🐾
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching 🙏
Thank you! Great content.
Love to hear it!! You're so very welcome 🙌
Brilliant, bc Dogs hearing is so much more acute than ours, so loud, prolonged noise would damage theirs as much as ours. The Goggles, fabulous too, hopefully UV protection, anti glare, to save from impacts from airborne debris, & age related Cataracts. 👏👏👏🎯🦘
Sounds like he is describing a dry sack you use while canooing
Those are a great option, yes! Even a sturdy ziploc bag will do.
OK, well am I just being a baby because I’m worried about taking my great Pyrenees puppy into like 55° no windy no snow weather
Hey, we understand your concern! They're our babies 😍 We hope this calms some of your worries. No go enjoy the great outdoors with your puppy!
I have a 4 month cane corso and want to take him to the snow is it too cold for him?
Me and you both! The straw is a great idea to put under some of the outside sheds.!
Wow so dogs simply being dogs when they are intact, better get the hamster if you want dog to be your toy pet . Dogs need balls ⚽️ 🏀 so do man
Some dogs can certainly benefit from keeping things intact. We always advice talking with your veterinarian first. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@Tier1VetExplain how castration benefits health besides literally removing the opportunity to get cancer. If I said the same about a young boy, you would say that's different and morally wrong. Neutering is a band-aid approach for bad ownership.
@@howtocookwithme2985that’s how I feel too. People who neuter their boys act like anyone who hasn’t is a barbarian to cope with the fact they mutilated a healthy dog for convenience.
@@howtocookwithme2985Well said
As a doctor, this is shit. You presented only one side of this issue. That's horrible and you should be ashamed.
My shepherd needs these. He’s wearing his teeth down playing with a ball
Do you live here in Alaska? If yes, please give us a call and we can get the process started! 907-745-8437 🙏
@@Tier1Vet I do not. What’s a price range I should expect to do upper and lower canines?
what if he’s using it in a clean house.?😂
We report. You decide :) Honestly, Dr. McPeck prefers to err on the side of caution.
No gloves??? 😂
You see her touching the piss or what?
The goggles are bada-
ended up here while searching advice for our new dog who has an extra none functioning toe. I had no idea people amputate dogs functional toes 😧
Glad we could enlighten you on the topic. Thanks so much for watching. Hope you'll join us for more pet education in upcoming videos 🙏😃
Excuse Me... Declawing And debarking Animals Surgeries Is Very ELLIGAL and Causing ANIMAL ABUSED,God Created Animals With Perfect Body Not Just Try Humans To Remove God's Animals Body. so Please Stop That Type of surgery, That's Making me Very Mad
We certainly understand your concern Jennifer. Removing a dog's declaw is legal in the United States, which is why we felt the need to better educate the public about it. We appreciate you taking the time to watch!
My cat is bleeding from his rectum and also straining to move his bowels. I dont have the money to see a vet st the moment. What natural remedies can help me. 😢
We're very sorry to hear about your beloved cat :( Unfortunately, we can not diagnose or offer treatment options for specific cases, even natural remedies, online. Most veterinary clinics do offer payment options that may be able to help you. We would encourage you to call your vet and inquire about them. Thank you for understanding.
We hike with our dog in areas where there are beavers. It’s almost impossible to keep him from drinking out of streams so there is the potential for giardia infection. Do any of the over-the-counter medications cure giardia?
We highly recommend seeing your vet, as the over-the-counter and natural options are far less effective.
My puppy is vaccinated only once is that enough?? Will it protect from Parvovirus??
They are typically given a series of shots. We advise consulting with your veterinarian to be sure of where your dog stands
Hi i need help i just got my puppy and he has only 1 dewclaw or whatever it is on 1 back feet the other backfeet doesnt have it
Hello Rex. We advise seeking the guidance of your regular veterinarian if you have questions regarding your dog's dew claw. We appreciate you watching the video!
