Autumn Photography Ideas with Mirrorless Cameras and Nikon Z 6iii, Z 8, and Z 9 Multiple Exposures
Hello Everyone!
In this video I walk through the woodlands of a nearby park in Toronto. I'm always inspired by the beautiful nature in this park especially during the autumn season where I often find myself exploring different photography techniques.
I explore the use of the Multiple Exposure feature in the Nikon Z mirrorless cameras (and other cameras as well) to create beautiful abstract photography that creates textures and patterns that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
I've included some tips on composition and the things I look for when doing creating autumn photography in the woodlands.
As always, I end off this video with a slideshow of images that I created.

Many people I teach often don't know about this shortcut for Nikon cameras. This works for most Nikon cameras including the Nikon Z 6iii, Z 8, Z 9, Z 7/7ii, Z 6/6ii, and Z f. By changing this one button configuration it allows me to quickly focus and identify critical areas on my image at the touch of a button. It helps speed up the shooting process but also helps in checking to see if your ima...

Every June I host a sunrise meetup in Toronto. Prior to the meetup, I go out for sunrises to show what we might be able to get at the meetup. However due to inclement weather I had to postpone this year's sunrise meetup by a week. So I simply continued to go out for sunrises throughout the week. Waking as early as 4:30am, I made the trek to the local park for views of the city at sunrises. I ma...
Why limit the time-lapse video output quality on Nikon Z 6iii, Z 8, Z 9, and Z f?
Просмотров 5474 месяца назад
Here's something I've always been curious about. With the recent release of the Nikon Z 6iii, I've noticed that this option still hasn't changed! The very convenient "Time-lapse video" feature inside the Photo Shooting menu has a very limited file format output that I've always thought could be improved. With an improved video file type like H.265 10-bit SDR or N-Log, we would be able to stretc...

Assuming we set to take RAW images, and we turn on the prerelease. So it will take 30 prelease images as jpeg. But does the image taken on pressing the shutter button turn out to be RAW? Or also JPEG?
Prerlease is an option that you turn on or off in your Photo Shooting Menu (D3). When turned on, t's automatically enabled with C30 and above settings, but disabled when shooting RAW images.
I want lanscape photos with a round sun, no star effect, would the ND filter accomplish this?, and when is the best time to photograph the round sun?
The sun is always round. If it's above the horizon you will always see it round. To photograph it though, you can use an ND filter, or try closing down the aperture to the smallest you can on your lens. Sometimes that works too. But just remember the ND filters are not meant to be used to look at the sun directly. You'll need the solar filter for that.
@taku_kumabe yes, of course, but in terms of capturing the round profile; shooting wide open leaves a blob and stopping down star, which is cool but not for what Im going for.
Are you able to power this light portable such as with a VMount Battery?
Not this one. The FS line of lights are meant for indoor use. You can check out my take on the FC-120 light here: ruclips.net/video/0qHzuY3KSb4/видео.html which you can power with a single V-Mount battery. For a more powerful option the FC-500C can also be powered with 2 V-Mounts using the optional Power Controller Unit, sold separately for the more powerful FC line of lights.
@@taku_kumabe Thanks man, i actually ended up bying a portable battery box that can accept this light.. I bought it and it's amazing with that 90cm umbrella on it! mind blowing compared to what i had before. lol Thanks for all your effort on this video. It really solidified my purchase; foreal.
You are overlaying music over a video about testing microphones. Like, think about this for just a second.
Well done, good sir. Really enjoyed the review.
Thank you kindly!
Thanks for the comparison. The 600 seems a little louder than the 400, but when I adjusted my volume to comparable levels, the room rejection became more obvious.
Merci beaucoup Taku Kumabe ;-)) Paris, FRANCE
De rien!
Very calming video, thanks mate!
Glad you enjoyed it Tim! Cheers!
Great tutorial, thank you 👍
You're very welcome Mark!
ND filters don´t do anything except cut light to ALL constant light sources the same. Both sides are the same. ND cuts power to sun and your light. It´s not a flash where (only) aperture affects the flash and shutter speed does not.
What's wrong with this picture? You want us to evaluate a sound comparison of 3 different microphones while you have the same identical background music competing with the sound of your video. Nah, that's not a conflicting issue! Can you help me out with my marksmanship and hold up the target while I shoot it with my silenced shotgun? D'OH!
I've wanted to learn how to do this so much! Thank you for such a descriptive video!
Glad you enjoyed it, you're welcome!
thank you
You're welcome!
Great tips! How bad was the drake passage?
Not bad at all actually. It was very calm on the way down and slightly choppier on the way back but nothing that ship couldn't handle.
what settings is that to get the red lines when you're focus ?
that's Focus Peaking. It should be A13 on the Nikon Z 9.
He one to the right..
Thank you! But the ring on the table, what is it used for?
I think its an adapter ring for your Bayonet Mount accessories
That is an adaptor for the FM-mount to Bowens mount. The 120B uses a slightly smaller mount than a Bowens mount, so they supply an adaptor for the light in case you want to use any Bowens mount modifiers.
@@victorfang1981 It's an FM-Mount to Bowens mount adaptor.
don't add music background when review microphone.
Woul you recomment 400 for recording bird voices for video content? It is quite attractive because of builtin shockmount and being compact. I need to buy rig for mke 600 otherwise looking from viewfinder is annoying due to rear part where cables go blocking my head.
The 400 is great but it might not pick up the sound of the bird is far away or the sound is quiet. The 600 does a better job at picking up sound in front of it but like you said, the end does stick out. You can use the Live View in that case though apart from building a rig.
@@taku_kumabe thanks for your comment. I bought 400 because I was happy even with cameras builtin mic except taking too much handling noise. I want to try my chance with 400 as being my first mic.
@@taku_kumabe MKE600 is also not a good choice for bird sounds. It can extend further than MKE400 but not far enough. It's like saying 135mm focal length is better than 70mm for birding shots, but frankly it's still not long enough. You'll need to get a parabolic dish with the mic mounted in the center.
how do you get that red highlight of where the focus is?
That’s Focus Peaking. It’s an option in your Custom Settings. 👍

Thanks Great lens and has pushed my 24-120 f4 S off my Z6II Cheers from Australia.
Nice review. However would had been better if you would have mentioned your camera settings. Thanks.
Thanks for watching. Duly noted! 👍
This lens is a SUPER gem !!!
Loving this lens. I’ve seen so many reviews saying the hood doesn’t stay attached and I thought it to be true until I accidentally turned it all the way and it clicked lol. Awesome walk around lens, and I’m loving shooting with it. Was lucky enough to find this as it’s backordered and even being resold used for more than the retail price. Awesome lens
I was getting frustrated why pre capture was not working. It was the C30, 60 and 120 frames per second....meaning we are forced to use the electronic shutter which now it makes sense to me. Nikon should make this clearer in camera. Thank you for clearing my doubts.
35mm not sharp as the 50mm,, and now the new 35mm f.1.4 is coming,,
Awesome guide Thanks ! Which would you choose to use with the 180-600 a ZF or ZFC? ie better AF & ISO vs better Magnification?
Thanks for your question! I think at 600mm you’re already getting enough magnification so the crop sensor wouldn’t add much more benefit. Besides if you really wanted to you could crop the image from the Z F and get more “magnification” at the expense of pixel loss.
plan to get this 800 but not to shoot things that are far away. ideally I want to fill the frame with the subject. nice video great images thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your comment! I’m sure you’ll enjoy shooting with it!
Lovely way of review. Love it. Great Content 🎉
Thanks so much for that!
oh wow, your channel is so underrated!
I appreciate the kind words!
JPGs are useless. What if we will select 20fps? Will it save pre captured images in RAW?
Why are JPGs useless? If your images are properly exposed then you shouldn't have to do much/any post-processing anyway. And if my memory serves me correct, you can't select 20fps to shoot RAW while in this mode.
Yes. I agree with you. But, Canon R5 mark II being slower than the Nikon Z8, still offers pre-capture in RAW. When you're shooting wildlife with constantly changing lights and shadows, it is nice to have RAW all the time as you never know when you will get a good shot and at the same time your exposure may not be super correct. Not a Canon fan. I own a Sony A1 and I really wish Nikon would put this feature in, many Canon guys will switch. I am also thinking about getting a Z8 if they will offer pre-capture RAW
Thanks for the great video!
You're very welcome!
What a Great Cruise you had >> Thanks for the Video Taku
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the videos. Despite not going to one of the port of calls, it was still a great cruise!
Thanks bro
Just found you and subscribed as I am looking to add a 35mm. I’m new to Nikon, coming over from Fujifilm GFX and XH2 & S to Z8 and ZF. Really enjoying Nikon. I retired from Chicago to Kamakura and enjoying a clean slate of photo opportunities. 1.8 S seems a bit bulky??? Been also considering the Voigtlander 35 f2 as well. Good stuff… appreciate your video.
Thanks for watching. Chicago and Kamakura are two very different views! I'm sure you will enjoy your new surroundings. I don't mind the size of the 1.8 S as it's still quite light. Keep in mind Nikon is still set to come out with the 1.2 version as well.
Absolutely nothing. It’s incredible. Man i hate clickbait titles
It wasn't intended to be. It was a genuine question-which you seemed to have answered in your comment-since I had the feeling it wasn't getting a lot of attention for the quality of lens that it was.
Thank u so much
Most welcome 😊
very educational thank you
You're welcome!
Hi Taku, thank you for the generosity in sharing this. Question, do the Nikon Z8 or Z9 output a RAW / NEF Multiple exposure image or is it JPEG? I believe in-camera multiple exposure is available in all NIKON cameras or is it restricted to some?
The resulting multiple exposure image is JPG. As far as I know this feature is available in all Nikon Z cameras, including the latest ones like the Z 6iii, and Z f.
Nice video. Well explained. Can I use the same film filter to shoot videos of the sun with my Nikon 600mm f4?. Thanks.
I don’t see why not. You may need to adjust your ISO and/aperture to compensate for your shutter speed that you’re limited to using though.
Thank you very much for the info. I have been using this setting successfully on my Z7 for years.
Awesome! Same here! 👌
Hola, me gustaría hacer esomismo con mi Nikon, pero mucho mas de cerca, pero veo que es difícil enfocar en auto, con los tubos de extension, claro en el modo de Focus stacking.
Hello! If you know what the minimum focus distance is for your extension tube setup, then the auto focus should be no problem. Just keep moving back with the focus point set to the closest part of the subject to the lens. That should be the closest you can go with your setup.
thanks for taking your time! keep it up! nice photos btw :)
Thank you! Much appreciated.
South America is def on my Bucket List
I hope you get to go one day! It wasn’t high up on my list but now that I’ve gone, I definitely want to go back and explore further!
Wtf. You will let us fall asleep. Be more energetic.
Well, that’s because this is all about night photography! 😉
I have head that taking photos of the sun can damage or even burn ur sensor on a mirrorless camera so how to prevent that?
Yes it's true. It can happen if you aren't careful. Just don't have the sun prominently in your frame for an extended period of time when you don't have a solar filter on. If you have a solar filter on your lens then you should be OK to expose for a longer period of time. If you're just taking a single photo of the sun then take the photo and change the direction of the camera so it's no longer facing the sun.
@@taku_kumabe oh ok thank you
