During that down period, it did shift the world in a different way. It still affects how things are done now. I wish when I was younger I seen & was around more business owners. Its no time like the present. On the entrepreneur journey you will learn somethings you couldn't learn from a book or a lecture.

I think school stifle/ hinders thinking. For example I've had thoughts of entrepreneurship now that I'm older looking back at my childhood growing up in the Caribbean. My thoughts now are how i could've taken used items and opened up a thrift shop. How i could've encouraged my grandparents to grown vegetables and have community get involved to have its own farmers market because there were no grocery stores nearby. Another thought was the Harliquiem books (slutty romcoms) could have led to a bookstore/library/community center which would have benefited the communty. I can go on but I'll stop there to prove my point that school hinders creativity and I don't want to say thinking outside the box but observing your surroundings and seeing what's lacking or what's needed. Just saying...

How coincidental I say "slow down" all the time since I moved to this small rural town in Wisconsin. I enjoyed this conversation. I'm in my 50s and I earned my MBA in 2009 although my background was IT. Looking back it made more sense to pursue a technology degree instead because the demand was there. Whereas an MBA high paying jobs are Project and Program Managers which I was not aware of then. I think there is a disconnect with degrees and jobs. For example if you get a nursing or teacher degree work in the field and discover you dont like it there ought to a road map about what other career fields you can do with the degree to pursue it. Just my thoughts. Thanks for sharing yours. ❤😊 I would like to add that over the past 7 years I've worked multiple areas and now I'm working at a library and this is the job I desired the most.

A 4 year degree wont cut it. Neither will a masters. 2 paths either work your way up in a big company or specialize in something. Dont get a general masters degree get a degree or certification in demand. From there keep learning new skills.

You will always excel at the things you are naturally inclined to do, and that you do well - aka your talents. I am a programmer because it started as a hobby for me since my teenage years, not because I have a computer science degree.

you ain’t trippin at all and congratulations on finally getting out of your job. you’re hitting it right on the head. people who don’t want to settle shouldn’t be punished. we’re incentivized for not listening to our bodies (but not much, mfs get lowballed) so at a certain point you realize you’re the one who has to prioritize what you’re looking for in life and make a way for others who are not quite there yet. thank you for touching upon this topic!!!

I agree with your entire video! Speaking only on the common idea that college is a scam, it isn't. I think the root of the issue for many people's disappointment about college is the unrealistic beliefs and expectations many of us had about college which stem from things that we were taught by our parents, society, or even things we told ourselves about pursuing college education, all of which we harshly learned not to be true. I will address such common assumptions people have about college education and the corresponding reality. Assumption: People with college education will have more career opportunity and earning potential than people without a college education. Reality: People who have in-demand knowledge and skills will have lots of career opportunity and earning potential and such people can range from non-college educated skilled trade workers such as electricians, plumbers, and welders, all the way to college graduates with degrees in accounting, math, various sciences, various engineering fields, and technology. People who go to college for degrees that do not teach any knowledge or skills that are in heavy demand by the job market will usually end up with little to no career opportunity and ability to earn a decent wage. ______________________ Assumption: The higher the level education you have, the more career opportunity you will have and the more you will get paid. Reality: If you receive you doctorate degree in dance theory, the number of jobs out there demanding your knowledge and expertise is so little that chances are you will end up working somewhere out of your field of study while earning similar wages to people who have half the education that you do. ______________________ Assumption: If you have multiple degrees, you will have more job opportunities and earning potential than somebody who just has one degree. Reality: If someone has only a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, and you have 3 degrees, a bachelors in Psychology, a master's in Social Work, and another master's in Communication, chances are the person with a single bachelor's degree in Computer Science has triple the job opportunity and earning potential that you have even though you have triple the education that they have. ______________________ Assumption: If you become a doctor or lawyer, you will have lots of career opportunity and earn lots of money. Reality: The legal field is so saturated with law degrees that unless you get a law degree from a tier 1 or maybe 2 law school in your preferred state of practice, the chances of being hired as a high paid attorney (big law) is slim. This is just one of many circumstances that forces many laws school graduates to accept lower paying legal roles or try to start their own law practice which may or may not succeed, many law graduates end up making a living outside of law all together due to difficulties earning money as a lawyer / attorney. As for the doctors, excluding med doctors, as I mentioned earlier if you receive a doctoral degree in a field that is not in high demand, you will most likely struggle to find career opportunities that will provide you a decent living. ______________________ Assumption: People with college degrees in STEM will inherently have more career opportunity and earning potential than college graduates with non-STEM degrees. As a 32-year-old STEM worker that graduated 9 years ago, my answer might surprise you. Reality: ....... FALSE!!!!!!! As much as we want to believe it to be true, as a person who has worked in the STEM field for a decade now, it's not. The demand for degrees in various STEM fields can easily change over the years due to various factors, two common factors being change in economy and the oversaturation of degree holders. The decline in economic demand for chemical weapons after the cold war, as well as changes in energy demands has caused a massive decline in demand for chemical engineers, leaving many chemical engineering degree holders today jobless after graduation and wondering off into other fields of work including non-stem fields to make a living. The over saturation of people with biology and chemistry degrees makes it extremely competitive to get what good paying biology and chemistry jobs exist, with favor going towards those who have a Ph.D. With this saturation, many people with biology and chemistry degrees at the bachelors and master's level are lucky if they can get a job paying them a livable wage, if they can get a job in their field of study at all. There are lots of people who major in certain engineering fields and sciences and end up wandering off into fields unrelated to their degree including non-stem fields due to not finding gainful employment in their area of study. 9 years after graduation, my friends who majored in chemical engineering never found a job and my friends who majored in biology and chemistry struggle to earn a good living. Meanwhile, I know men and women who graduated from my university with non-STEM degrees in certain fields and they have more career opportunity and earning potential than my STEM friends with degrees chemical engineering, biology, and chemistry. So, never assume that non-STEM degrees inherently have less opportunity and earning potential than STEM degrees. I will wrap this up by saying that there is definitely a divide between older generations and millennials / gen Z when it comes to college causing some of our beliefs we were taught about college from older generations to not be in sync with reality, but another important factor leading to the dissatisfaction of many college graduates is our own personal / societal beliefs about education that are false and rather superficial in nature. Such superficial beliefs we hold can be the common thought that the more educated you are, the more career opportunity and earning potential you have, when in reality the more in-demand your knowledge and skills are to society the more job opportunities and earning potential you will have, and this holds true for both people who acquire in-demand knowledge and skills through college and those who acquire in-demand knowledge and skills through other means such as trade school. When making the decision to go to college, do so carefully by thoroughly researching the market demand for the knowledge and skills you will obtain with your degree and never assume that because someone is less educated than you, they have less opportunity and earning potential than you, in reality they might have more opportunity and earning potential than you do if their knowledge and skills are more valuable to society than what you have obtained in your degree(s).' Also for those who have college degrees, I am a strong believer that there is no such thing as a useless degree, just people who don't know how to use their degree. If you have a bachelors degree of any kind, you have at least 120 credit hours of study in a variety of subjects, learn to leverage what you know and make a way for yourself in this world, it won't always be easy, but it can be done. A college degree rather you like it or not is a foundation of some sort that can be used to build a life up but this will require effort that many of us are not willing to give ourselves.

My degree slightly opened new doors but the pay wasn’t accommodating.. I understand entry level but making $15/hr is not feasible in NY. I recently had this discussion w/a family member of mine & they suffer from that “work hard” mentality🫠 it’s unfortunate b/c this is where the breakdown occurs in the black/brown community such as lack of support, lack of financial literacy etc the list goes on 😮‍💨 “working hard” for these corporations is a myth.. this was forced upon us💯
