For anyone looking to gain access to the ECU on the AE92 Toyota Corolla Gti ECU. I had already removed the trim around the radio along with the radio & CD. I searched the internet for advice but there was not much information to be had. However I found that you don’t need to be so drastic and the ECU can be reached by removing the bottom kick panels either side of the centre console. I hope thi...

      In the UK this particular one could fetch anything from £15 ~ £20k if entered into a suitable auction. £10k is about the going rate for a tidy one. Similar cars Like Astra GTE are being offered @ £20 ~ £30k the Corolla is equally as desirable imo

    OMG, This is closest i've ever seen to my car, Have the very same car in same red colour and a 91 with same JDM rear speakers ,Center console and Under tray too!! lol, Wondering how do you fit undertray exactly?? do you need to drill holes, clips line up but haven't figured it out yet

    • @SpacedOdyssey
      @SpacedOdyssey Год назад

      If you mean the under tray for the glove box it's easy, It has holes already, and the glove box has holes to match, because in some countries this part was fitted and standard or as an option. You will have to pop the glove box out which is easy, and then get hold of some screws, Standard Toyota ones with a flange will do, they are used every where

Including much bodywork a full repaint an engine rebuild, Big Valve head conversion and much more. So I will be hoping to enjoy it for few years yet. I appreciate the detailed reply, I'm familiar with Dave walker, with the 40 plus years experience he has tuning engines and mapping ecu's, I suspect he has to be among the best in the uk Do you mind if I ask what milage is on car, and what kind of power and torque do you suspect could been reached on standard cams

    • @SpacedOdyssey
      @SpacedOdyssey 4 года назад

      The clock has 112,000 miles. What to say about cams! well the claimed bhp for the standard gti was 132 I think for that version in my J reg, which I think is the 7 rib block, But as it wasn't possible to re-map the old ECU, I'm of the opinion that it's a waste of time doing anything to a car with an ECU that is stuck in the past 30 years ago. So if I were starting again, having found the Emerald k6 and Dave Walker I would have fitted the ECU first and had the car mapped. I believe that a re-map would probable be worth 5bhp along with other benefits from having a new ECU. And in the scheme of things 5bhp for £800 is a good gain without stripping the head to fit cams but equally, I would have probably considered fitting different profile cams at the same time to make the most of the programmable ECU.

    Hi, is the car standard apart from ecu,, what mileage? Looks and sounds lovely

    • @SpacedOdyssey
      @SpacedOdyssey 4 года назад

      Hi, It has CatCams Inlet Duration at 0.1mm lift 258 degrees, 8.5mm lift Exhaust Duration at 0.1mm lift 238 degrees, 8.0mm lift. The company that supplied them claims that these cams will run on the standard ECU . However once the cams were fitted the car ran really badly, It was overfueling and cutting out and really bad fuel consumption and the pugs kept oiling up. After some research I found out that the problems were caused by the Camshafts valve overlap, which resulted in Low Vacuum at low revs and tickover. I then spent ages chasing down an ECU company that would work with the 4AGE engine and could provide a plug n play wiring loom so that I could use the original wiring and have the option to go back to the standard ECU if ever this was needed. The car runs supper, fuel economy is improved, fuelling is spot on and ticks over nicely and the spark plugs are nice and dry and clean. Problem for most owners is they go head first into high lift camshafts without knowing the problems that they cause. If I had the Emerald ECU fitted in the first place, then I would have chosen different camshafts that could be accommodated by re-mapping the ECU. Sorry for the long reply but I hope that this helps others
