    Thank you for your videos. I've moved from a very small theater with a tiny analog board and 8 mics, to now having mixed a few big shows at a larger venue on a Midas Pro2. I can really see the benefit of using a board like this with scenes. The Pro2 is great and a big upgrade from the tiny analog board but I still have to do a lot of work following the script and muting and unmuting. I try to group things as much as I can but it still can be challenging.

    Why are there 2 Snippet sections? I have never understood the reasoning for that... I have created snippets in the Mixer Snippets section and trigger them through midi just fine. What is the correct procedure to creating and using these snippets? Are we supposed to create them Offline, on the same section as shown on this video first? Then export them, save them on the computer? Once connected to the mixer, then what? Load the Imported Snippets in the Mixer Section one by one and save them in the mixer section? I am starting to believe that I only need to create them Offline and not using the Mixer Snippets section at all as the offline section does everything the Mixer section does. Am I missing something? Unfortunately there is no help to be found in the user manual of the X32 Rack, so I would appreciate some feedback from fellow users. Thanks in advance.

You didn't describe how you inspected the system, from the microphones and other inputs to the speakers. You really can't teach this topic in twelve minutes.

    Wonderful video! Do you have a video that goes over the board configuration of assigning Q lab Audio Level output patches to Aux tracks or other channels on the X32 board? You mention this at the very end of this video, though did not go over how to configure this on the board. Thanks for sharing, loved your explanation!

      This depends on the routing settings in the board. I usually have only Aux 1-4 inputs routed as Card. In that case you can access two stereo pairs from Qlab. I'll see if I can make a video about it.

    Very well said! Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!! I play in a pit orchestra for shows and our soundboard operators do not have a clue. They do what you said at 11:11. We are all pro musicians that are never heard. The audience only hears cymbals and an occasional trumpet, acoustically. Even for dance numbers (no singing) the shoes on stage are louder than the music. SO FRUSTRATING!!!! I wish you were doing our sound.

    • @3and3av90
      @3and3av90 Год назад

      Yep, just like choosing musicians, there's a giant difference between an audio tech who only knows how to switch mics on and off, and someone who has the skill, the experience, and the ear to actually "mix" the show. The latter is what you get when you hire a pro audio engineer. These tips are all spot on!

I keep this on my lowest layer and above these layers are the aerials/boundaries and band. On the topmost layers I have the fx. I use an edited version of the script to queue the mics "manually". If you're using the X-USB driver, and have the X32 connected correctly to your computer via the X-USB port, the sound outputs to the board should show up on your computer. So you can select them there. Then you need to also make sure that you have some input on the board set to have some card channels selected. For example, we just set the Aux 1-4 inputs to Card 1-4. That's in the Routing menu on the board. When you do that you can select OUT 1-2 or OUT 3-4 on your computer, and the sound should show up on the corresponiding Aux inputs on the board.

    Hi Thomas, Just wanted to say I've recently found your channel and it's actually helped with a couple of great ways of planning my approach to sound design within Musical Theatre. One of the biggest things I've been trying to resolve is the ability to use Qlab to control my X32 and I've found that you have done this. I'm sure in a previous video you made a comment that you had scoured the web to find information on MIDI details for doing this. ( I too am struggling ) Do you have any links that would assist in this area? I have managed to now set up my X32 to accepts MIDI from qlab and I have successfully achieved to fire a cue to Mute and unmute direct channels. I'm now looking to find the way to fire Cues & Snippets. I honestly think I'm on the edge of discovery for this but as I've seen you have achived this! Can you help? Pete

    • @artisansound1807

      Hi Pete: here is the link to the complete MIDI command chart that I found: behringer.world/wiki/doku.php?id=x32_midi_table I had been looking for this for the longest time. Really surprising that it’s not in a more obvious official documentation.

    • @bandanapete6945
      @bandanapete6945 Год назад

      Thomas your'e a legend! This was like finding the Holy Grail. I'd managed to send MIDI from the X32 to Qlab and fire the cues no problem. I just could not code it to work the other way. With this document I'm now able to easily fire all the Cues/Snippets and direct channel commands as required. Thank again.

    So do you mix using the dca faders? Because what if you have a many different characters on stage at the same time. Do you just route their mic to the same dca and work with it that way or do you mix it from the channel input faders?

    • @artisansound1807
      @artisansound1807 Год назад

      Yes, I mix mainly with the DCA faders only. I route the open mics to 6 DCA faders differently for each scene/song, as needed to give me best control with just these faders. If there are any imbalances within larger groups, I adjust them with small tweaks on the channel faders. But for the most part, everything can be handled with the DCA faders.

    Thank you for the step by step guide. I was under the impression that any audio being passed through Qlab had to be coming from the same source as the output source. It seems that in this example, you have audio coming from a laptop and being output through the board. Did they change the parameters in Qlab? BTW, I love the fact that you split audio and SFX to different stereo inserts on the board. That's a clever trick and I will defiantly be using that.

    • @artisansound1807
      @artisansound1807 Год назад

      You are welcome! We are not passing audio through Qlab in this case. We are playing WAv or mp3 files from within Qlab. I don't know if you can route audio through Qlab also to different audio patches. I would assume that you can do that with the Mic patches, but we're not using that feature, so I don't know for sure.
