Dave Madden (aka nonnon, Tulpamancers) uses percussion, found objects, turntables, and synths to create new sonic environments. Micro-organic looters invade and tinker in warehouses and factory floors; mechanical serfs - past due for replacement -gradually crumble and sputter with a smile in anticipation of maintenance that never happens.

❤❤❤
This little excerpt really connected me and my godfather. He would always remind me that we come from the backgrounds David’s family discourages, but it doesn’t mean we can’t get through life and bring ourselves and those around us out of the shit we’re in. I’m in my second year of college now and he still calls me “the rooster” lol.
It is dangerous to listen to David Seders while driving.
Sorry, don’t find this humorous. Good eatin’ is funny? The toothless fisherman gets laughs? Making fun of these regional accents and behavior is so tired and ooold.
I bet you’re extra fun at dinner parties
Such an incredible writer👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼‼️
When I read that chapter in the book, I was laughing so hard I was literally crying tears on the pages. And, it was so touching--reminded me so much of my relationship w/ a close friend I grew up with. I'll never forget what a treasure that little piece of literature was to me, what a delight to savor it on that cold February day in Detroit during the winter of 2007 or 8.
His brother is boomhauer 😂
Any effects used with these? Sounds like there's some kind of short reverb.
Bitch, I'm here to tell you that it's gonna be alright. We'll get through this shit, motherfucker. ~The Rooster
David Saderis ?
I always imagined The Rooster sounded like a southern Eminem on helium. This came pretty close....
You might can't kill the Rooster but he's one of the good ones!!
Today's Raleigh doesn't have an accent in particular because so many non-Southern people have moved here over time (or their parents did). You often have to go to certain outer working class areas to hear it. I know the neighborhood where David grew up and few people with Southern accents live there these days.
I have a friend who seems to come from someplace similar. She speaks similar or knows people who do.
I'm reading Me Talk Pretty again, and this story just kills
Do you like cheese pizza?
The rooster is now married, with a little girl.
Paul's little girl Madeline is now a young teen
Brutally funny...
RUTH LANGMORE from THE OZARKS. Rooster has to be her Twin Brother !
Cool
Thanks so much!
❤️
Carolina sucks. Crowded, hot, nothing but concrete and steel, and full of asshole northeasterners. Place is just disgusting
This is my favorite recording of this story! From the mid-90s! Thank you, Dave Madden!!
Then it's posted just for you :)
"When shit brings you down, just say 'fuck it' and eat yourself some motherfucking candy." --The Rooster
Outstanding
Does anyone know the source of this recording? I am trying to track it down. This particular live reading, not the one on the Barrel Fever album.
This was originally available for streaming or download from the GQ website a long time ago.
@@MikeDeLongRealMikeDeLong Thanks!
Yeah, thanks! I believe it arrived to me via Napster in 2002
David Saderis?
I bought the cd in early 2000.
Love this
First time I have heard this live. Like William S Burroughs, once I heard him live I always hear his voice reading his material.
Yes. I tried listening to the studio version of this (from the audiobook), and I had to skip it. The exaggeration of his brother's voice in this clip...perfection.
i love that u compare the two. i was looking for a chance. you are a jewel.
@@phenomenonnon INDEED!
Good ol Paul
A very good sound
Good release!
Is your Bandcamp email the best means of reaching you by email?
I think my comment was stripped. nononnon at gee mail dot com
NAILS on a Blackboard suddenly sounds SOOTHING!
Another super track.
Can you do a video with timpani and metal bowl where you use soft mallets while changing pitch of timpani?
Good stuff! Didn't you use the Stereofield for the sounds in the beginning?
Thanks so much! I think I may have passed some vocals through it, yeah. I generally improvise on misc. instruments every night for a few weeks and then pick it all apart over a weekend. I lose track of what made what sound :/
very good...
Thank you!
Mutesynth is the most evil thing I have ever experienced... My ears were bleeding most sessions
i hear ya haha. i have version 4.0 on the way. My goal really with "noise" is to make something before it becomes harsh. I'm not always successful.
@@phenomenonnon Hi Dave. It was too unpredictable for me, not the gendre I was aiming at.your demo was exactly what I also achieved. Beautiful instrument with a demonic soul! Enjoy v4. Keep it at arms length and don't ever turn your back on it!
My friend sent it to me as a means of advice. Though I’m not sure he’s saying I should be saying fuck it. Or that he’s saying we will get through it.
That's funny. Send him a Fuck-It Bucket.
Maybe he wanted you to have yourself some motherfucking candy :) Seriously, we should all have friends like this.
Cool noises, very interesting
Hmm , another nice piece. Thanks. Curious about the Visualisation?
Thank you. I put a camera up to the iTunes "classic" visualizer. Basic, boring stuff - but it reacts to the sound, and I like that.
dave madden great. Suddenly realised afterwards it was that
dave madden i may use that idea too
Refreshing to hear textures and irregularities, I agree it is tedious to hear relentless sequences. I do spend a lot of effort trying to modulate sequences by random volts into Reset, and changing the key by having another Mother 32 into Gate an 1v/oct also playing a sequence. but I feel happiest just playing notes, that's where the good stuff is.
I keep setting up a bunch of instruments and sequencers, and while that can be satisfying, it's nice to focus on one thing and force creativity. And thank you - irregularities is my life haha.
Interesting, i can see the hydrophone, where is the contact mic-underneath the bowl? Do you mind if I try?
Oscillators! Peace and love from Bristol, England
Thank you for posting this!
I can't believe it wasn't already on here!
Im enjoying all yiur vids Dave, are you just using Audiomulch as a host, or will you reprocess after in AM? Are you based in Uk?
Thanks! Nope, these are all improvised and captured into the sound recorder in Audiomulch - no further processing other than the occasional cut when the sound is going on for too long. Nope, US.
dave madden Thats too bad! If you’re ever in UK and fancy playing at my Listen to the Voice of Fire let me know. Got any ‘releases’?
Yes I do (was just organizing all of them to finally upload them to iTunes and Spotify). And thanks for the invite. thenonnon.bandcamp.com/
Audiomulch! I first used that back in 1997 or so ...
The last few minutes is where it's at.
Great !!!
Do you know any synths like this that are a less money because £400 is alot for mee
Brilliant!
