This track was written in 1979 from all the proof available. This recording is from March 30, 1979. Earlier drafts may exist, possibly even as far back as 1976. I remember being in Studio 914 the day after Elvis died. Studio 914 was where Bruce Springsteen originally recorded the song-'Born To Run'. It was August 17, 1977, and my now late brother was there with Artie Resnick (who co-wrote a song about a boardwalk in New Jersey), and they were recording a 'demo' for a song that would eventually be recorded by Joan Jett. In the middle of the session, they took a break, and I started to sing one of my favorite Elvis tunes, and my brother joined me on guitar: "Trying To Get To You" (from his 'Sun records' days). Final verse: "Lord above, you know I love you....eventhough the darkest night, He would shine His brightest, when I was trying to get to you." One of the King's finest moments. Mr. Springsteen gave one of my brother's albums a major push (but unfortunately it didn't 'hit'). That was an album entitled-'Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye' by The Dirty Angels, and the lead single from it: "Tell Me". Bruce would play this record over his PA system before his live shows during the late 70s. Years later, the day before he died, I was at my brother's deathbed with my earliest and dearest childhood friend, Jonathan. Jonathan used to work for another New Jersey native, Jon Bon Jovi ("Living On A Prayer"). Hmm.
Incredible story! Being inside 914 would've surely felt magical. A small and undereqipped studio but that was the fun of it. Born To Run would've sounded smaller if recorded at The Power Station. Rubbing elbows with both Bruce and Jon is a major thing in my book, I guess the band was quite talented! If you still have some cassettes or demos I strongly encourage you to post them if there are no legal obligations, because important music history might get lost over time. Back then the music scene was flawless in the East Coast. I'll give the album a spin, thank you for the suggestion.
@@raremusicarchive2252 It was a small studio; that's right! My late brother recorded two albums with his band, The Dirty Angels. Demos for the second one were recorded in part at Studio 914 (as well as the demo for the song that went to Joan Jett). The first one, the one entitled-'Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye'-was the one that Mr. Springsteen really liked, and would play through his PA system before his shows. It was recorded at Plaza Sound Studios in Manhattan, where The Ramones, Blondie, and The Go-Gos recorded their first albums. It's on youtube, so take a listen. It's pretty good 'power pop'!

It's not Lost Media
It is, the original track is on an early studio used CD for Tracks to determine which tracks go where. That disc never leaked and the finished production never surfaced. This is another version from Lost Masters, but I remixed it to have the vocals and the drums more defined and closer to the studio version. It's 'partially found' because we have these rehearsals but it's not a released track.

Video? I bet that it looks way better. I worked a bit to get it more complete but I had just 2 clips - one shorter and incomplete and one of a far lower quality but with the bits that I was missing. I hope one day we'll see the official release in HD.

this arrangement first announced at the 1998 "Tunnel of Love Tour" I think the single CD coupling was Dylan's Chimes of Freedom.
I remember buying a 3 inch CD of that when it came out. I wish I still had it. I forget if it came in a long box or a long plastic holder but that was a cool little CD to have. The 3 inches never caught on. That was the only one I ever owned.
The "Tunnel of Love" tour was 10 year earlier in 1988, not 1998.
