Providing Sustainable Funeral Flowers All Year Round
Просмотров 145Год назад
In this video I explain how I provide Sustainable Funeral Flowers throughout the whole year by concentrating on the foliage. This allows me to earn an income from my patch throughout the year and not just between March and October.
Testing different materials for use in sustainable funeral flowers
Просмотров 318Год назад
This is an edited video from my course www.sustainablefuneralflowers.co.uk. I am always on the lookout for the perfect material to use as a base for sustainable funeral flowers so I did a trial of four different materials to see which performed best. The materials tested were: moss; agrawool; aspen and the oshunpouch. This video demonstrates my method and conclusion.
Introduction to Sustainable Funeral Flowers

My online course for Sustainable Funeral Flowers is now live at www.sustainablefuneralflowers.co.uk . This video is an introduction to the course and discusses why using sustainable floristry methods is important to me and how florists can incorporate sustainable floristry techniques into their own work. The course features a selection of different designs to create using methods that are kinde...
Foam free techniques for funeral flowers
Просмотров 10 тыс.4 года назад
I realise that there is a large spectrum of florists from those that still use floral foam but are looking for alternatives to those who never use plastic and look for the most eco-friendly methods possible. This video demonstrates a couple of the techniques that I have developed to create the base for coffin funeral flowers without the use of floral foam.
Testing how long flowers last in Agra Wool 100% Natural Floral Foam

This video is a follow-up to my initial test of Agra Wool's 100% Natural Floral Foam. I was asked how long the flowers would last plus if the product was re-usable and this video shows the results.
First test of AgraWool 100% Natural Floral Foam
Просмотров 7 тыс.4 года назад
This video is of Lynne from The Posy Patch, testing a product called Agra Wool 100% Natural Floral Foam for the first time. Lynne is creating a small double-ended funeral spray using British flowers and foliage. The vast majority of funeral tributes are made using a floral foam which is a single-use plastic. This new product is a mix of basalt and sugar and contains no plastic. For more informa...
thank you for making this!
Thanks for trailling this test Lynne, really interesting to see the comparison. Moss is my go-to (I put it inside the bag though as i feel that holds in as much moisture as possible), and I particularly like the fact I can reuse it, with i think is not the case with the other materials here? Obviously you can only reuse it if you get it back though, so not always suitable! I looked into Oshun pouches but as you said they are crazy expensive. I haven't tried Agra wool but my worry with it as that it's a compressed medium, so the hole remains, rather than just 'resealing'/ moving back around as with moss, and that things are therefore more likely to fall out. Really interesting results, particular from a longevity perspective.
Thanks so much for your feedback Kate - very much appreciated. Regarding the AgraWool I haven’t found that the hole remains and the stems are secure but I do need to use a screwdriver to make holes first for some types of stem.
I tried it and hated it. Also when I left the finished arrangements in my workshop overnight, the smell in the morning was really unpleasant.
Thank you
How can I make a flower cake with this item. Where can I purchase Agra wool as well.
Hi Charline - you can check out the distributors on this website: agra-wool.nl/distributors/?lang=en - not sure what you mean by a flower cake but it comes in a brick shape block that can be cut to size and shape required - I use a bread knife
Yeah, I've tried the agrowool, but doesn't work all that well.
How long did the flowers hold up? could you count on it for an arbor design?
I used a chopstick to make a guide hole for flowers with soft stems
Good idea - I was using a skewer but now use a screwdriver - will definitely try a chopstick
@@theposypatch1543 Why not just use a DeWalt Drill to drill hole??? Hahaha......
@@miriamring7024 they don't sponsor florists! ;-)
I poke my holes with good old fashioned cobblers’ awls.
Thank you, that's a really useful tutorial. I've only just discovered the Agrowool product so I'm keen to try it out.
I hope you get on with it - some fragile stems do need a hole made for them with a skewer
Agra maintain that you can insert flowers back into a hole that you’ve made unlike Standard foam. How are you getting on with it now?
I use it all the time for funeral work and you can insert flowers back into a hole. Although it is also sometimes necessary to make a hole for fragile stems.
Thank you for “road testing” this product! I’ve been using chicken wire and aluminium wire for mechanics for a long time now. I’ve tried the Agra Wool but I’m afraid I didn’t get on with it! I tried to design a tall arrangement and found it didn’t hold the stems very well. After seeing your demonstration I’ve decided to give it another go. Thank you x
Would love to know how you get on second time around!
I love the tutorial, clear and straight to the point. The natural floral brick, I couldnt catch who is the maker of that?
Sorry for the delayed reply! The product is my AgraWool www.agra-wool.nl/en/home-en.html
Thanks for a really informative video. Any reason why you have to pour water on to it from above, rather than putting it into a basin of water and leaving it to draw it up naturally as you would with traditional foam? Seems more time-consuming but otherwise an acceptable alternative.
Hi - I saw this method on the manufacturer's website so just followed their example - it does soak up water from below though anyway.
This woman's using a casserole dish for this "demo"... Really??? Why and the hell would you drain the water from it AND not use tape to tape it ????These florists are obviously being paid by this counterfeit construction insulation, not being used to design flowers in...what a joke???? 50+yes. And never seen garbage like this!! How much did " Agra wool" pay you???
@@miriamring7024 Goodness - calm down.
do you have a method for doing round posy pads please??
Hi Laurel - there's a photo on my Instagram page @theposypatch on August 8th 2019 which shows my method for posy pads - hope it helps!
Great demo, would love to know cost and what is in it ? But very promising that there is an alternative
Hi - there is some more info on my Facebook page: facebook.com/theposypatchderby/
Would love to see this product available in Australia. Great video!
Hi Myhanh - I've just noticed that there is an Australia distributer listed here: agra-wool.nl/distributors/?lang=en
