@lincolnhuntermusic It doesn't matter if you can't see the name anymore. How it sounds and feels is more important and it sounds really good. I have the harley benton cl superior e vs, which is sort of a hummingbird clone.I too like a good bargain, given that I can't afford Gibsons, but I'm a fan of them.

Amazing machine, I have 2, one died the day before the other one arrived (capacitors in PSU need replacing, very common problem with early series Fireworx & other TC units fo the era... I think the V2 is when they fixed that problem & added double the presets to make it look like they'd improved it, apart from that the V1 is exactly the same) . You can get them for around 200 to 300 euros here in France, absolute bargain. So many I/O options too... I bought the 2nd one with the intention of running it in the loop inserts of the other machine. Still need to replace those caps! Fully modular FX unit, I don't think anyone else made anything like this. It was supposed to be their competition with Eventide (the pitch shift algorithm was made by a company formed of ex Eventide engineers apparently) but it's way more complex and flexible than Eventides. The major downside is the reverb (which isn't anything to write home about in particular) which eats up half the CPU.... Shame they didn;t use 2 chips, one just for reverb like the Lexicon MPX1 (which often gets touted as an alternative to the Fireworx but is a lot noisier and far less flexiible and easy to program. The Fireworx is surprisingly easy to program considering how complex it is, you can get around it without the manual. A good solution is to buy something like a behringer V-verb pro (their really good reverb that is available for about 100e tops) which has really good i/o routing and use that as an insert instead of the FWX reverb and free up all that DSP for more exciting stuff. You can hear the vocoder tracker preset demonstrated at 2m50 here on Current 93's masterpiece "I have a special plan for this world" and on a few Nurse With Wound records from the same period (Colin Potter has one in his arsenal). I went through all the forums looking for & buying all the weirdest old FX units I could find and this one is without a doubt the top of the pile. The best value for money FX box you can find today (apart from the Zoom MS70CDR of course!). You can't get PCMIC cards anymore for anything other than silly money so you can't easily back up patches (I'm not sure if you can do a sysex dump or not) & it won't work with a PCMIC adapter for compact flash cards apparently. Yes indeed you need to tweak that modulator knob to hear what a lot of the presets are doing. I recommend these to everyone!
