My rating: 98! Lol. I want to attend a local toastmaster however I'm not sure if this group is right for me. Would I still have to pay for that club membership if I don't find it to be a good fit.

Great post Jason! That speech is so powerful and still inspires me. I am still a sucker for Arnold's speech on 6 rules to success. Call me a kid of the 70's and 80's but this hits home all the time to get me to start and not look back.

Awesome video! I love the way you broke this down into such specifics, Jason. One of my all time favorite speeches was Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford Commencement address. You have inspired me to watch it again.

Best advice to meet with the EMCEE prior to going on stage. They only help make you shine on stage and love the fact that getting your names pronounced correctly is a must. Nothing worse then going up and repeating your name correctly. Ughh

Oh my goodness! Great tip on the cliff hanger!! I’m the keynote speaker at an upcoming conference, and then I have a breakout session. I’m going to use the cliff hanger to push people to my breakout. As for ending on Q&A, I have done that in the past but agree with you that it’s not a good way to end. It steals the opportunity to have a mic drop ending when ending with a Q&A.

Great advice! I don't give many speeches, but when I do I'll be sure to give this another watch.

Working on a new intro to a keynote right now, so very timely video. I usually go the route of second-best story or audience engagement personally.

Something I love: Having taught over 1500 hours on Zoom since April 2020, I love it when someone is engaging with their eyes. They are looking straight at the camera. When someone is not looking at the camera, it instantly feels like disengagement to me. This is something I would like to improve in myself when I am not the one speaking.

To add to the "have a website". Don't let having the perfect website keep you from starting one. There is never a "best time" to start. You can always change, add and improve your site. Starting is more important than researching it forever and not doing it. Seasoned speakers update and change their websites all the time. Keep growing in everything that you do. My biggest problem when I started spekaing was shifting left to right like my modeling days. That and putting a hand in a pocket. Two hurdles that were tough to overcome for me. Thanks like always for the great ideas Jason!

Great message, Jason. Thanks for producing and sharing it. I especially like the advice to make changes in small increments-that's the only truly realistic way. I love my morning routine. One thing I learned long ago is that the body knows how much sleep it needs (at least mine does), and will naturally wake up. So unless I'm catching a plane or have an early morning meeting, I don't use an alarm. Now, I couldn't do this when I had a full-time on-site job and had to catch a bus to go downtown. But as a freelancer working at home, it works very well, since I can vary what time I start work. I do my personal study and core-training/streching workout six mornings a week (because if I don't, I'll pull a muscle!) and do some cardio in the evening (often including a walk with my wife). I love my morning smoothies. My routine has worked well for me for about a decade now. Of course, sometimes life's surprises demand otherwise, but I feel my best when I can do my morning routine.
