I liked it so much at the beginning i also was reading the novel...and probably the best is first season and the novel when he and the elf with glasses ends up on earth again and she didnt know cid was from there...i am not a writer so i dont know how they could have made it work, maybe focusing more on the support cast because after a while it became always the same formula just repeated with stronger opponents stronger moves bigger "stakes" you know at the start he has to save his sister now he destroys planets. The poin for me is just this when you make someone so op that basically he cant lose cant die and its just a when he uses his real power (and is always he arrives battle maybe it seems he is kind of losing or at least they are on the same level until playtime is over kill everyone) and the more it goes on the more he also has to be depicted as more and more stupid to not understand what is really going on, something that made me laugh at the beginning now its just ...the same stuff over and over like Dragonball....plus he can destroy planets what could happen that he cant resolve in 5 seconds? There are no more stakes

Cid is literally the pinnacle of magic in his world. Man had enough mana to at minimum encompass the solar system when going with the "brute force approach" showing the explosion from his atomic engulfing whole planets to the point that when his mana pulls back in all of that excess energy in such a confined space was capable of creating a fully stable singularity point connecting alternate realities

Cid acts as an NPC for the experience of watching the world unfold around him while at the same time creating the world changing events to just show how great his power is. It's the perfect dynamic for the show of how everyone is trying to slowly figure out Shadow while he just happens to be around and no one even suspects this pathetic guy to be even close to being Shadow. It's basically the Clark Kent effect to an absurd extreme.

The most hilarious part of this is how he constructed this move out of his "fear" of being blown to nothingness if an atomic bomb hit. His answer was to become the atomic bomb. Yet, the further the series goes, I am pretty sure he has surpassed the strength of an atomic bomb since a while ago.
