Hi Paul, my grandfather James Hannan from Belfast was arrested in 1917 and was on hunger strike with Thomas Ashe in Mountjoy Prison. He was arrested for preventing police from entering a Sinn Fein meeting in Belfast in 1917. Eamon De Valera was giving a speech in the hall at the time. Is there a list online that documents all of the men that took part in the 1917 hunger strike? Would I find this information in the National archive? Many thanks. Seamus Hannan.

It's between 1945 and 1959 as Sean T O Ceallagh was President. It looks like an important ecclesiastical event as Archbishop John Charles McQuaid is there. Could it be the installation of Bishop Rodgers in 1955?

Actually Kathleen was 18 at the time. She married Billy Rawlings in Ennis after he kept threatening to arrest her for constantly breaking the curfew (running messages for the Volunteers). She brought up four girls and a boy in Francis Street before she moved to London, following the children, in the 1950s. Amongst others in this book Michael Collins wrote ‘to the pike, the sword and the like’. DeValera was in there 3 times but the pages were stolen by priests.

Thank you for sharing this information on Peader Clancy. I am a Grand Niece of Peader. My Grandfather Michael Clancy is Peader's and your Mother's brother. I have known about Peader since I was a young girl. My Grandfather and later my Father, John, told me about him. There was a portrait of him in their house and a newspaper article of his death that Michael always carried in his wallet until his death. Peader has always had a special place in my heart. Now I have shared this with my Grandsons. Peader will always be an important part of our Family History. Many years ago I visited Dublin Castle and visited the room where he was murdered and saw the plaque there. Again, thank you. Mary Clancy McNamee

Thanks for posting this. I look forward to visiting your museum. I only recently learned of my grandparents involvement in the Rineen ambush - it was a jaw-dropping piece of bravery by poor people against the world´s strongest army! I hope there will be some celebration of Rineen this year (2021) given the significance it had in Irish freedom.
