Nier: Automata is Still Good in 2024
My most viewed video as of right now is me being a huge nerd over Nier: Automata. In this video, I revisit the game to see if the gameplay still holds up. Spoiler - it kinda does.
I will review the story in a follow-up video.

    I'm not surprised if they ever make a direct sequel or prequel to Electrosphere since they don't have to get license from the major fighter plane companies. If Project Wingman can do it with limited budget and employing fictional planes, then why a multi million dollar game development company can't do it too? In term of the story, it would've to be the rise of General Resources and not failing upward. I would think the scenario is like any other AC games where country A is under attack by country B, only this time General Resources would back country A instead of the IUN since they've becoming useless. Along the war, General Resources keep getting more 'exclusive contracts' as the war escalates and engulfed the Usea continent. By the end they ended having assets across the continent and began their economic development which lead to their economic miracles. Restoring the continent economic standard into pre Ulysses impact which cemented their hold as they able to acquire cities. We could even get the fracture of General Resources with Neucom which set up their inevitable split off.

    • @PanmyxiaYT
      @PanmyxiaYT 24 дня назад

      Considering the AC timeline and where we're at, they'll have to start contending with AC3's lore or else go back in time. Or retcon it. Honestly I think it'll just get retconned. Also, part of the appeal of these games is "wow I can fly (insert jet here)!" I imagine since Bamco/PA has the budget, they'll still license some aircraft.

Maybe even Dision found out that the attempt on his life was orchestrated by Simon and waging war for a different reason.

      @@PanmyxiaYT If that’s what you think. I’ve been suicidal for 20 years, until now, i found a medication, that makes a significant difference in my mood, but it doesn’t change the fact, of what the depression has made out of me. In my opinion it’s not a question of survival, it’s about what the struggle of surviving takes away from you. I feel like there’s nothing in this world, that can repair me, not to mention, if there was, i don’t have the money or capacity for it. I don’t even feel like a human being anymore, all i know is bitterness and i’m only 26 years old. That’s just my 2 cents on trauma. There’s nothing positive about it. It does not make you stronger, quite the contrary, it only makes you more vulnerable. Which is why this story doesn’t invoke any optimism in me. I feel like seeking something positive in Nier Automata, is willful ignorance. If the only peace we can have, is in death, then what is the value of a life, of eternal struggle and misery? Sorry if this is very pessimistic, but it’s my honest perspective.

      @@PanmyxiaYT Thanks for the reply. I’m sad to hear, that you’ve been going through a perhaps similar situation. I personally find therapy is a scam and i think that’s not an unfair assumption, considering that i have been in therapy, since i was maybe 7 or 8 years old. Again, this is my personal opinion, but it’s not because I haven’t really tried. My last therapist told me “I can’t help you” after spending two years worth, of sessions with him. That’s not to say, no forms of therapy, are in any sense useful, but what i have learned about myself, is that getting medicated, has been the only proficient course of action so far and that every failed attempt, on the spiral downwards, has stripped layer of upon layer of my self worth and my autonomy from me. All i can dare to hope, is that all of this mess, will at last amount to contempt. But that seems unrealistic, considering how little i care anymore, to be alive in the first place. I’m sure. this sounds self-pitying, maybe even obnoxious to you. There’s been a time in my life, when i found listening to depressed friends of mine unbearable. But thank you for hearing me out regardless.

    I'm not gonna lie, I originally got this game because I think 2B is sexy as hell (she still is!). I also thought 9S was a dork. But that all changed. Seeing how every went to Hell, having to destroy all my comrades, witnessing 2B's death and 9S's mental decline....... I swear, I was fucking losing it MYSELF. I seriously just wanted 2B, 9S and A2 to live out their lives in peace. THAT'S ALL I WANTED. And when 9S was fully committed to killing A2, I really wanted them to talk things out so as to not lose them both. And that true final ending had me thinking so much about it. I spent my car rides to and from work just thinking about it. Trying to, I guess, convince myself that it was a happy ending. Then when I realized that the Pods were saying that they're able to give them back their memories and repair them with parts from other models, I was satisfied with that. Like, it's not an explicit happy ending, but enough for the player to know that they're gonna be okay. UGH! I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!! Also, I wanted to sacrifice my save file to help others, but my PS4 got corrupted before I could properly do it. Heh. Never thought I'd be so regretful over not being able to delete my save file with so many hours of playtime....

    Love this game. It's probably my pick for the best in the franchise. But I wouldn't fault anybody for claiming it was one of the others. The only main line entry I really missed was Ace combat zero, because at that time I had already moved on from PlayStation 2. As an Xbox owner I did get to play Ace combat 6 though. And I absolutely loved that one too even though it probably has one of the cringiest story presentations But I would disagree about the series not being known for story overall. Five is definitely great. But my favorite is Ace combat 4. That is one of the most impactful games I ever played, it helps that I'm a nerd for fighter jets and to a lesser extent just aviation all around. But the way they presented that story from The view of your enemy hit me hard. Seeing yellow 13 as a hero to his people before you finally face him down yourself was something that hit me hard on my first playthrough That was also the game That really solidified this as one of my favorite franchises But none of them look better or play better than seven. I set out to beat this game on every single difficulty, which is something I don't normally do for games. Although I was successful on normal mode, I decided not to try and pull my hair out beating the absolute last level on the other difficulties. This might be one of my least favorite tunnel run segments in any Ace combat. Solely just for that part where you're flying in circles around the pillar trying to shoot the drone. That was just so tedious to me But I beat every other mission on every difficulty lol. By the time I was playing on Ace, I also added the stipulation for myself to beat the game from the cockpit view only. I have so many hours on this on Xbox, but I love the game so damn much that I just picked it up on my ROG ally too. Just because being able to lay in bed playing this game portably is absolutely awesome

    2:52 The soundtrack was stated by Pavli to NOT be based on Ace Combat but was requested by the devs to be inspired by Nier Automata. Compare the track "Calamity" with Neir Automata's "Alien Manifestation". Pavli explains in his "Making Of" videos on his channel. Story wise it does seem to take a lot from AC: Zero, with Crimson 1 being a sort of anti-Pixie. There are even videos where Pixy's lines get edited into the video in such a way as to banter back and forth. There are even a few lines from Crimson 1 that are direct shots at Pixy while some of Pixy's lines can be a direct response to such lines. Crimson 1: What's it like to not have a country; to not have borders to define yourself against the world? Pixy: Can you see any borders from here? What have borders given us?

    The guy whom you will gift your VR headset is here. As a die hard PW fan here are my thoughts about this video. Great video lol. If hard is hard, you should have seen mercenary. Remember that mission 9 (Stepping Stone) that you hated? Same mission, harder AI, with a bunch of big airships (Littorias and 205s from what I remember. Tho you said "Hard difficulty adds more enemies" so maybe you were refering to Merc difficulty. I low key love the lack of no checkpoints. Surely I have shouted some "nice words" at my screen after dying in mission 7 (Eminent Domain), mission 19 (Red Sea) and mission 20 (Persidia). In Ace Combat, whenever I knew I passed a checkpoint, I would sometimes crash my plane on purpose to replenish ammo and health and Idk how PW would have turned out with this mechanic. Especially during my first playthroughs Mission 12 (Midnight's Light) was hard cus the railguns slowly take away from your health before u r finished by French woman. The mechanic I talked about earlier would have taken away that challenge. Tho I should say I feel really discouraged to play after dying in an especially long mission (MISSION 7 I HATE U) so it isnt perfect. Imo conquest mode is a great gamemode in its idea but it isn't perfectly executed to say the least. I myself plan to talk about this in the future in a video (sorry for self advertising but the topic is really worth talking about). In terms of dialogues, I would like to reference Max0r, "Your radio will be filled with yapping 24/7 that even the characters in game beg for silence." I believe by the "subtle stories on ground" you mention the dialogue between Wild Boar and Galaxy about the SOS calls from ground in mission 5 (Sirens of Defeat). OH MY BROTHER! It is not C1 that shot Captain Flowers in mission 15 (Consequence of Power), it was Commander of Peacekeepers in Cascadia. They different accent, voice. They are totally totally different people.

      Eh, my headcanon is that Crimson 1 personally launched those missiles. Hard to tell it's a different guy in the middle of everything happening.

      @@PanmyxiaYT This topic has been discussed in the subreddit for many times and the general agreement is that they are different people. Tho if you focus on the dialogue, you can notice the difference between C1's voice and the Commander's voice. Also it doesn't make sense for C1 to be adressed as the "Commander of the Peacekeepers in Cascadia". He is just his squadron's leader. From Frontline 59, we know that there were many Peacekeeper squadron's in Cascadia.

    Absence of checkpoints is hardly an artistic decision - even AC series lacked those until the 6th installment, so I guess that's skill and tech issue rather than a choice.

    • @PanmyxiaYT

      I disagree - although I do concede that it could be a tech issue in PW's case, it's just irritating to not have the option.

      @@PanmyxiaYT here we go... What I'm saying is that I would love to have some checkpoints as well, but it seems that it's not that easy to implement them from the technical standpoint, considering Project Aces themselves only managed to do so six games and three console generations into.

    I wonder how many folks who've had negative experiences with the game played on console. I played it first on a One X and it dropped frames *hard* whenever you had cordium effects or railguns firing, and you couldn't get past about level 25 in Conquest because the single digit frames would start to cause your missile volleys not to connect. Still enjoyed the game, but having recently rerun it on PC, it's clear that it just had a bad console port and, for its surprisingly meager file size, the game demands a lot of graphical processing power that eighth gen consoles don't have. Conquest was good fun and immensely satisfying to beat. I don't know if the roguelite feel would fit AC, but I'd love to see some Rainbow Six terrorist hunt style of ways to replay maps or missions with randomized mission objectives, start locations, and enemy types. It would keep things fresh outside of replaying story missions, especially if Project Aces keeps with the tighter mission times of 7 and not the luxurious limits from basically everything before it. 7 got me into the franchise so going to 6 was such a breath of fresh air to not be in a constant rush, and it allowed for more player experimentation. In lieu of that, I think it'd be a great way to encourage player retention so you can get your daily fix of Ace Combat without just playing a mission I've played 20 times already. Hopefully with another game in town, AC and PW can coexist to keep fans of the genre eating well for a while. I expect both will continue to inspire the other to innovate

    • @PanmyxiaYT
      @PanmyxiaYT 3 месяца назад

      Remixing missions is an interesting idea I hadn't considered, I think that'd fit AC pretty well. Also interesting that the console version of PW is not up to par - on my previous PC, it'd sometimes drop frames if I decided to go all gun pods, the explosions were too much. Maybe it's an optimization thing?

    • @tangero3462

      @@PanmyxiaYT it's likely just that. There's also some UI glitches with the Conquest hiring den, and the game doesn't remember any changes to input bindings. A bit annoying, but forgivable for an indie game for effectively no money in practical terms

    I myself started playing the AC franchise 3 months ago, and after finishing all the titles (besides that funky Java game) I picked up PW. It's indeed quite impressive, and it feels more like AC7 than AC7 did. I mean, AC7 doesn't feel quite like an evolution from previous titles (which AC6 did, despite the meh story it had), it feels like they played it safe with a lot of things since the last mainline game was from 12 years prior and the last "big" game was from 7 years pior (Infinity is debatable). So they had to accomodate new people with no experience in the franchise in order to make it appealing. It did succeed in that regard, so I hope AC8 can be bolder.

    you know the difference between plagiarism and a love letter ? how it feels to play. a plagerised game copies the surface elements of its source but just wrong enough that when you play it you can tell they tried to copy something without understanding it. a love letter on the other hand may have difference on the surface but the core feels just like the inspiration, when you play it you know the devs understood the orginal and used it to create a whole new work. PW is undeniably a love letter, the story isn't 1 to 1 with any ace combat but feel like an ace combat story, the OST feel like an orchestra full of ace combat fan that were bored one afternoon and just had fun, the gameplay is basically a reponse to when ace combat fans where joking about being only able to take one SP weapon per mission even when there's still free visible hardpoints on the plane. PW may not be an official ace combat game, but it sure as hell feels like one, and really good one at that.

    amazing review of this amazing game i would like to point out a few things though: presenting the "happy" ending first made you miss a point in Bug Hunt it is in that mission that Rena decides to not become a mindless pair of wings like she always wanted to become after you saved her from the hacking in a sense this mission is the main reason why the UPEO ending is the "happy" ending, it's the only one in which Rena retains her humanity, so saying it isn't important to the story isn't true also fun fact those mushrooms structures in that mission actually move up and down in a breathing pattern, no one knows how to interpret this information though lol the "Geopelia" ending might not be explained, but there is a theory that sprouted from the soundtrack it's name is "Morceaux", French for "pieces" or "fragments" players made the theory that the Geopelias were piloted by fragments of sublimated minds as for the hacking, yea you left that hanging for a good reason lol it's imo the 2nd biggest reveal of Nemo's true nature, excluding the secret ending in the "Electrosphere" ending (which is by far the biggest twist ever as well as the biggest reveal as to Nemo's true nature), it is almost certain Nemo himself hacked into Rena's brain through the Night Raven's Opto-Neuron-Synapse-Interface (ONSI) that linked the plane directly into her nervous system the Neucom endings' primary secondary character is by far Cynthia, with the "sad" ending showing her reaching her goal, to the despair of Fiona as she knows it is but a copy of her sister the "sad" ending is also unsettling as Fiona points out Nemo's lack of response, creating a sense of unease as, welp, all the Ace Combat protagonists are silent lmao (Assault Horizon is a CoD disguised as an AC, it doesn't count) and it never was an issue so why . . . point it out . . . ? why have her expect a response that never comes? it makes the player question Nemo and the other ending (which i'm gonna call the "truth" ending as it is where we learn Dision's true intentions as well as a peek at Simon's relationship with Nemo) mainly revolves around Cynthia although he events of AC3 isn't canon, the simulation having happened is considered canon an other connection to AC3 is found in ACX in the form of the YR-99 Forneus, YR-302 Fregata and XR-45 Cariburn, which share design similarities (especially in the case of the Forneus, my beloved) to Neucom's design philosophy ACX is also the closest to AC3 in the timeline, taking place in 2020 while AC7 takes place in 2019 the Forneus is a bridge between my first Ace Combat (and childhood) and my favourite Ace Combat, it quickly became my favourite original aircraft of the franchise despite only having super-advanced stealth technology for itself ACXi also introduced the YRB-89, an upscaled version of the YR-99 that serves as a strategic bomber, but ACXi is considered lost media due to Apple's policies N.B. Simon is simp :>
