Checking out Cultosaurus and Rocket Fizz | Against the Grain Barbershop | St. Petersburg, FL
Took my new A7C with me to run some errands and check out some places I've never been before. I also try some weird sodas that I got from Rocket Fizz.

The Birth of the Sunshine City | St. Petersburg, FL | The Detroit Hotel | Williams House Tour
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.Год назад
With St. Petersburg changing so much in the last few years and so many new people moving here, I thought it would be a good time to look back at the past and do a deep dive on how the city of St. Petersburg came to be. This was a very fun video to make and I got to show off a lot of the city’s cool history. I’d like to thank Dani from USFSP for the tour of the Williams house, and Matthew from S...

In this video we take a look back at the 1985 Ron Howard film "Cocoon". This movie was filmed most of the scenes in my hometown of St. Petersburg, FL, so I decided to go out and match up some of the scenes with what they look like today. Amphicar Ride at Disney Springs | Boathouse

Short video of our ride on the Amphicar at Disney Springs.
I loved the cocoon movies and the score by James Horner. Thanks for sharing. I'm an Aussie fan.
Great movie made me cry even to this day when the grandparents left on the boat 😢
I saw the alligator wrestling show, was great! I remember the monkeys as well.
I remember mosquitoes.
Florida native 53 years. Sunken Gardens is a shell of what it used to be after the city took it over. Thanks for the tour, have not been in about 15 years. Maybe time for another visit.
I live directly across from the pool house location on Park street... lol. They offered money to park their big rig filming truck in our front yard until they found a bigger yard down the street. Fun fact... they even relandscaped their front yard for the use of it.
You skipped the NE Shopping Center that has been totally remodeled since.
Other movies made here, Lethal Weapon 3. Boat scene at night. Clearwater Beach Marina. I was there and had no idea why everyone was around the marina. Watched that being filmed. Happened to just be there in 92. Summer rental. St Pete Punisher was filmed at Honeymoon Island and the opening scene is made to look like a house but they are the bathrooms which the production crew painted them from a light gray to color they are now. Also Ft Desoto park pier is one of the main scenes 3 men and a baby. Don Cesar Edward scissorhands was Hillborough County. The neighborhood was painted all bright colors. Lakeland. Land o lakes. Lutz. Wesley chappel. Dade city.
Hey man. Thanks for making this!!
Thank you from Munich in GOOD OLD GERMANY ❤
Those glass pavers in front of Snell Arcade have lights underneath. Sometimes they get turned on in the evenings. Very pretty reminder of the early 20th century style.
There are offices down there. Skylights for the basement.
Nice Video!
Steve was at Don's docks at the east end of John's Pass .
Just fyi, Ameche is pronounced "uh-MEE-chee." Not "uh MA chee." And it's Wilfred BRIM-ley. Not Brumley.
You mean Don “Ah mee chee”
Would be great if you could put before vs today side by side for like 3 or 4 seconds
Interesting as a native.
I visited Florida in 1989! Went to Kissimmee and redington beach in longboat key!
What drone do you use?
DJI Mini 3 Pro
My great uncle Bert was the main contributor to the Vinoy hotel being built and owned much of St Petersburg way back in the day
Fantastic video! Thank you!
Wow!
You did the ol' place justice with your video! I have been to the place a number of times over the years; saw more through your eyes
What drone did you use to get this footage? The dynamic range looks pretty good, my mavic mini can struggle with that sometimes.
This is the mini 3 pro.
@@thatfloridaman I have the original mavic mini
@@drabberfrog Now that I think of it, this may have been filmed on my Mini 2. I dont think I had my Mini 3 yet when I made this. Regardless, all of the DJI mini drones are pretty great.
@@thatfloridaman yeah, my mavic mini is still going strong, I flew it at the beach 2 days ago.
That video of the turtle was cool
cocoon was always one of my favorites movies when i was a kid in the 80's - For the longest time I always had a theory that it was secretly written by Rod sterling as it could have easily passed for a 2 hour long episode of the twilight zone- thats just my opinion. REgardless great movie and a great youtube video- Thanks
Yes, his camera. Not his phone.
Very nice shirt
Thank you! It’s is one of my favorite RSVLTS shirts.
The new camera looks good. And your content is always interesting. Your reaction to the ranch dressing soda was pretty much what I would have expected. 😅
Thanks! I’ve been pretty happy with it, it’s definitely a lot smoother and less jittery than my last camera.
If cocoon had been a real life ufo encounter event instead of a sci-fi movie and everybody all over the world suddenly became aware of it I wander how it would change our world it very likely make UFOs in the mainstream media an even hotter much more talked about topic than it already has
Excelent vídeo, congratulations 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Can't tell you how many times I went fishing off the causeway in that same area as Wilford Brimley.
For a great read about life in early St. Pete/Tampa, I recommend "The Stubborn Fisherman", by Edna Roberts. It is the fascinating story of George "Florida" Roberts, a St. Petersburg pioneer and close friend of Silas Dent. George Roberts knew more about the Bay than anyone alive or dead. Full disclosure: I lived in St. Petersburg, Gulfport, and Pinellas Park as a kid. Moved away in 1984. ALSO: Demens' name is pronounced just like "demons"
Thank you for the recommendation, I will have to check it out.
I love your channel. Keep it going regularly. At one video every week.
My goal is at least 1 video every 2 weeks for now, if I can make 1 video a week work with my schedule then I will.
Very nice look at the race venue. You've convinced me to attend this INDY CAR event someday in the future. That lunch looked great for $ 21 including the beverage. I see you had general admission did you also buy the paddock pass ? you were very close to the teams operation in the garage plus the race cars. Well presented video !!
No, no paddock pass. You can get pretty close with out it.
Well done! Born and raised in St.Pete and born at Mound Park Hosp. In Williams park inside the middle of an Wateroak tree is a fake 1943 copper penny my buddies and I made in a certain dentist lab on a Saturday! We used a tooth grinder on a 1948 penny and made it 1943 (the tree is still there) and we did'nt get caught. Waiting on the history of Vanoy Hotel and Gandy bridge statues of nude women on the bridge! ...B.K.
On behalf of the Good Family we appreciate the support and the video!! As we were in business for over 40 years. We can’t thank our customers and dealers enough! We were all one big family and cannot wait to see what the future holds for us ❤️ From Good Family
I used to spend hours here looking at all the cool vintage gear and even bought some stuff. Gonna miss ya.🥲
I was a kid in St. Pete in the 70's and early 80's and went to Sunken Gardens many times on school field trips. Many fond memories!
Perfect timing- I’m taking my niece to Sunken Gardens this week. I’ll look sooo smart with you help! Really like your video on The Detroit Hotel too. If you are reading, would you let me know what your theme song is? The one you play with you logo?
Thank you for watching! I actually made the theme song myself in GarageBand.
love the video!
Thank you, this is great! I love learning the history of places
I remember driving by the huge Sunken Gardens sign all the time when I was a kid in the seventies and eighties.
LOVED THE 360 DEGREE SCENE!!!!!
Thanks! I’m still new to using the 360 cam, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it.
When these first came out, I was just a kid… But I really wanted to get one when I could afford to buy one. Never did, though. Thanks for putting up this well-done video.
Nicely done! It’s been about 10 years since I was there last. I had to smile when you said ‘doo-doo’ as in “They do do weddings here.” 😊
Great job ! I remember going to Sunkens Gardens when I was younger (early mid 80s) , the monkey they had in the front entrance of the park was a class act and was the highlight of our visit. ☺️. Beautiful place.
Excellent excellent video. I am an Uber driver and I like to give tourists a little history lesson as they ride. Some ideas…Webb city, first commercial air flight, Kerouac house, jungle Prada tavern and its Al Capone connection. Just some ideas.
These are all things I plan on covering at some point.
The red food coloring was changed a while ago. The old red dye was carcinogenic and they can't sell it any more. (naturally) So the old bottles are now collectible. The green Sinclair dino was the symbol for Sinclair Oil, just in case. It was a big brand back in the day.
Oh wow. Thanks for the info. I had no idea about the red food coloring.
Great video. Thanks for sharing the antique shop with us. Those outdoor seahorse lamps were dope
Thanks for watching. It’s a little different than the videos I’ve been making recently, but it’s good to hear that people enjoy this content as well.
Heading there tomorrow thanks for the info
