THE MOTORIZED JIB OF THE FUTURE?: Edelkrone JibOne Review
I’ve never seen a camera operator hold a camera like you, it looks awkward, get yourself some bars and handles.
Music just got too intrusive for me... Also found the flat, blown out 'grade' hard to watch.
Did u upgrade to 8k ?
We did not upgrade to 8K just yet! We are considering it though!
Love my 4D I use it for wildlife and travel it’s amazing
Would love to see your work!
QUICK QUESTION: Please, do you do MANUAL BLACK SHADING on the GEMINI??? Or, does the camera do an AUTOMATIC black shading on it's own?
You speak to fast and the music is to loud and distracting. I was not able to watch it till the end. pfffff
Noted! We’ve adjusted it for future videos, so be sure to watch the other content, too. But happy to talk about lenses here in case you have questions!
interesting, esp. as not one reference to the "red ranger", I mean the Power rangers!!, an obvious pun, considering the name of it.
❤
I sincerely hope you're checking audio for your client's content as it's pretty hard to hear you throughout nearly the entire video. Audio levels are all jacked up.
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the audio for our clients is spot on and correct. We're testing RUclips's audio compression and you'll see we tweaked it for future videos. Hope you enjoy the Laowa if you decide to get it, because it is an interesting and clean lens.
Hey just because of the audio topic. i use a zoom m3 mic on my ronin 4d. it connects to the trs jack but also records internally 32bit float. so far it is my favorite combination
We currently use the Zoom F2-BT's as a lav solution with a timecode sync, mainly because we usually use two cameras. Absolutely love what Zoom has been doing, because we had a situation where we had to shout to barely hear each other, and the audio from the lav was crisp and clear.
Thanks for the thorough review of the Ronin 4D. Coming from an Arri Alexa and Canon R5C background, i can see how the 4D can be implemented into narrative style filmmaking, which is my passion. Although it has it's limitations with Cine zoom lenses and relies more on cine primes, my only concern is the limitations of the codecs available on the 8K sensor compared to what you get on the 6K sensor. Hopefully there is a firmware update that would allow you to choose other ProRes formats in 8K mode. Those files sizes are just too big to handle on a 1TB SSD.
It's taking elements from different manufacturers such as: 1. Sony Rialto >> 4D Flex Free head movement without restrictions 2. Steadicam >> 4 axis to help vertical movement compared to 3 axis gimbals that help horizontal plane. 3. 1st AC >> Lidar focus, autofocus Vs proper 1st AC manual focus 😮 The list goes on, you'll save cash in the long run if you aren't hiring extra crew. But more stress on you to nail the job for clients.
It's 2024 and I still have drift issues, I have no idea what the fix is but I wish it would just hold its keyframes. :( I don't get it either.
We understand! That was one of our biggest concerns. If you’re interested still in a good slider, check out edelkrone or Emotimo. They’ve been developing/developed some great products that we would stand by as better than Rhino.
@@BeyondTheSpecsChannel I also really like the AXIBO system. Last night I spent about 4 hours fiddling with settings on the ARC II after getting it back from a repair… and I kind of figured out how to get it to be consistent. One of them was to change the load to heavy. Which causes it to stay pretty accurate on the tilt axis. If you adjust the settings too much it basically loses count in the stepper motors and then goes off course. It’s super annoying.
If you are keeping the camera you should definitely get the dji ssd. If you have the 7” high bright monitor I highly recommend the 3 channel follow focus from dji. You can set limit points and mark points in between with haptic feedback, 3 resistance levels, zoom rocker, and you can also see limit points on screen when not in mirror mode. Also you can have the iris slider and focus wheel illuminate if needed. Good video by the way! I subscribed and liked of course.
We normally shoot dramatic shows and feature films, so I´m used to the traditional cinema camera workflow of single cam TV and film set, where you go with a heavy camera, focus puller for each camera, video assist, separate audio recordist with a boom operator, etc... And since I started a while ago a really never had the chance to step in the DSLR Video camera space. Normally fully fledged cinema cameras are really heavy, a fully fledged Red Epic Rig we used to shoot a film in the mexican jungle some years ago weighted something around 40lb, it was all hand held and I ended up with a shoulder and neck injury operating the camera and that´s nothing compared witha a full fledged Alexa, or Sony F55 with the RAW recording unit attached to the back. So the weight of the Ronin feels like a feather pillow to me compared to the monster frankenstein rigs I´m used to. Saying that I really do think it´s necesary to bring an easy rig or any other form of support with it because the way it rests on the arms is a brutal on the biceps and can get painful on multi day shoots. But what I really enjoy in this camera is that it´s super fun to use, you can get really nice moving shots with it with almost no effort, it has everything integrated so you dont have to carry around a tod of accesories to make it work, and it cuts a lot of costs; I don´t know how it works over there but here when you rent camera equipment you have to pay for the gear and bring an extra person that supervise that equipment, so for all the things that the 4d has, gimbal, video assist, focus, we are talking about three extra guys, that above of their respective wages have to be transported, fed and insured. So in a multi-week shoot costs just blow up to the sky. That´s why I love this camera.
thanks for share¡ great video
see as somebody who uses the Ronin 4D as his only camera or not only but his a camera for me I think a lot of the points you make about it not being the best camera or truth it is not the best camera for one specific thing but I think it is the only camera in the world that can do pretty much everything for example if you bought its counterpart in the fx6 you would have a camera that is great however the fx6 number one has a freaking horrible menu system and even after learning it it is still aggravating me bad and will slow you down second I think one component that a lot of people don't realize is with the 4D Flex cable you can turn this camera into a traditional Cinema Camera which takes all of the issues that would normally come with operating the Ronin 4D as the whole unit instead of a split and there are some very good videos of people doing exactly that that I don't think a lot of people realize is even a capability of the camera let's do of course another comparison between the fx6 and the Ronin 4D as a primarily solo operator the ability to access almost every function on the camera from the Dual joysticks is indispensable to me now that I've had it I also think for that reason it is the perfect camera for one man band operation it allows you to use such a wide variety of lenses if you lock the gimbal off while retaining all of the electronic follow Focus capabilities that you would normally have to spend like $500 on a motor plus a special grip to even get however on the Ronin 4D you only need to buy the motor another misconception is that the camera cannot handle heavy lenses that's not true it can handle very heavy lenses all you have to do is add lens support which isn't nearly as hard as people make it out to be another thing is if you're going to make this your only camera you want it to be extremely versatile which the Ronin 4D is you can use it in a whole hell of a lot of situations and with all of its accessories it opens up so many options that just make it impossible to say that the Ronin 4D isn't the best one man band camera because when you look for a camera at least when I do for solo operations I look for something that could be on a gimbal I look for something that I could use handheld and in all other variations that might come such as on a car mount no other camera gives me the ability to do that with a 6K sensor that can also record internally prores Raw I think a lot of the time and in this review as well you have not taken advantage of the Ronin 4 D's biggest asset and that is its extreme versatility in the upgrade modules that it sells the reason I bring up the fx6 is because it costs about as much as a out Ronin 4D and it's also its direct competitor when it comes to best camera for solo shooters a fx6 that is fully rigged out which means the mountain battery it means lens gimbal second monitor because the first one is Tiny and cage and follow Focus you're looking at about 14,000 after tax if not a little more or a little less depending on some of the brands you choose to get to where you want to get now if you look at the Ronin 4D in comparison for 14000 you get the body of the Ronin 4D you get a lens you get the Focus motor you also get two extra batteries xlr plate the 4D Flex cable the backpack to put the camera in oh plus the Ronin 4D actually comes with a travel case that you can use which the fx6 doesn't and you can also throw in a hole cage for the 4D camera so you can use it in more of a traditional Cinema Camera shape while having larger lenses on it so if we take a look at these two fully rigged out cameras side by side one has a lot more flexibility than the other does and if you're like me a person who does a whole bunch of different stuff not just weddings Not Just Sports not just commercial then this being your only camera is in my opinion the smartest choice you can make if you are strong and fit enough to Lug this brick around or with the flex cable it's like 5.5 lb so there's that
Thanks for commenting! You have some fair points! We think that the ronin 4D offers a lot for solo shooters, but when you compare it to other cameras, it’s all about your end use case. The ronin 4d offers a lot, but with the flex kit, multiple lenses, the backpack, etc, you would have a comparable price to a fully rigged out FX6 with DJI ronin RS3 kit. Do we like using one over the other? Not really, just depends on the shoot and what it needs. :)
Thanks for this video, very informative.
Nice video!!! Can you please share what split screen effect / plugin you used?
We actually did all split screen effects using the transform & crop tool in Davinci Resolve! No plugins or effects used! Each piece of footage was moved into place by adjusting the X & Y transforms in the inspector, and then cropped to their shape using the top/bottom/left/right crop in the inspector as well.
Thanks for showing off our eMotimo spectrum ST4! We get many customers from other brands who prefer our ease of setup and accuracy. Also customers love the flexibility of the Dana Dolly in that you can set up short or really long depending on the shot. FYI, we have 9 keyframes on box in the "Add Frames" option. If you ever needed or wanted more, you can connect over USB to desktop software from Dragonframe. Thanks again for taking the time to show the combo off!
Been loving the Ronin 4D! great video 👏🎬
Thank you! We love the Ronin 4D too and we'll be posting another video with our tips and tricks that we've found from using it! Would love to know any tips you have as well!
Damn good content!
Camera porn! Better than film!
If you require in camera audio maybe you should get the xlr audio expansion unit. For audio sync you can setup one channel for external sync and use external recording, that´s how we do it and it works very well. I think this system is not really complete if you don´t use it with the wireless transmitter and monitor there´s where it really gets unmatched by anything else out there, because you have a 6k camera with very good image quality, gimbal, video assist, remote control and focus runing on a single battery with minimum setup time. And if you throw the Flex cable on top of that then you have the flexibilty of the rialto system in a more compact form factor, it becomes even better. I know that it means a big investment but at the end it´s less than getting all different pieces togheter from different vendors and then setup on set takes a lot of time and extra hands to make it work. With this thing a single operator can do it very quickly I´m really impressed by it.
Hey Sergio! We've ended up getting the XLR audio expansion unit and also the Flex, which we love both! We're really glad that these items have came out to alleviate our overall concerns with the camera and they do make operation now a lot easier for single operators. However, we do hope that in their next iteration of the camera (not new 8K, but an overall update), the XLR audio at least comes standard on the body, not as a separate unit. But glad that we found another person who liked it. Consider checking out our updated video on how we feel 1 year later; would love to know if you have any other tips for operating that we didn't include!
what a great video~
DZO shits on it! It doesn’t justify the cost. Also Nisi primes are way better and cheaper
Anyone know if they make this in nikon fx full frame?
I’ve owned my 11-20 cine for my BMPCC 6k Pro for the past two years and it has gone around the world with me and is always on my camera. I absolutely love it and the subtle flares are really nice but not too much.
Damn guys good video, good information, no bloat keep it going that's some great work
Music is an issue.
Swiss Design, South Korean built.
How does this lens perform on super 35? or would you recommend a 100mm for that sensor size
Drop a narrative short film using the pocket 4k and watch for it grows your channel. E.g. My Rode Reel competition
It took a lot of work to get your video this nice looking.
Thanks for the video. Very informative. just a suggestion. For your master shot, shoot at a 5.6 or 8 so the camera is in focus as well
Given that reds underperform on dynamic range spec (claim 16 stops but actually only do 14 stops, 12 if you consider realistic use of signal to noise of 2, that is just about 1 stop better than an iPhone or bmpcc) vs. Arris sensor which promises 14 stops by spec, but actually delivers 14.7 stops, that the color science on Arri is a notch above Red and that the Alexa/Mini/LF is a thing and these cameras are similarly priced and featured and Reds never won an Oskar: Why the heck would you ever buy a Red? (other than the cheap Komodo, because tiny boxes are cute even when they lack production critical features such as locking mounts and ND filters).
How can you say they are similarly priced? Arri is way more expensive than Red.
@@gbhy2224 An Arri alexa mini goes for $50k. A red ranger gemini for $30k and a mostro for $50k.
@@pyalot Exactly so how can you say they are priced similarly? A monstro is an 8k LF sensor.
@@gbhy2224 They are similarly priced being within 40% price difference the same way a sony a7s III going for $4k is similarly priced to a Nikon z6 at about $3k. A BMPCC 6k at $2.5k or a C300 mk3 at $10k is differently priced, the difference between red and arri is practically negible for the audience that can buy them.
@@pyalot You are talking about just "starting prices". There is a reason why there is a market for RED. It's probably because operating cost for a RED is much lower than it is for ARRI. As a solo operator I'd be in the market for a gemini kit but not for a alexa mini. How else do you explain Red's success? They cater to different audiences.
Background music is distractive. Your voice is low at the same time
Great review! One of few on this lens line-up. I think it's a Swiss manufacturer, not German.
Please I’ve been waiting for the comparison between the irix macro and the Tokina macro since you released that first Tokina video last year . I’m ready to pull the trigger . I need that video!!! Please for the love of god !! Hahaha
same still waiting
I’m between this lens and the Tokina 100mm macro Cine lens. Money aside , what’s your opinion ? Which one do you recommend ?
ya can we get an answer on this pls?
Hey man, like your content but the music can be really overpowering at times. Had to turn on subtitles to try and catch everything you were saying.
Hi Nick - kudos on the video - well made (we also tested one of Irix Cine lenses last year - the 45mm). I am actually interested in the motorized head you show on 3:00~ - which one is that?
Refreshing my dude! Thank you for bringing this method of reviews to RUclips. I CAN READ the specs, I want to know more about usability. You delivered that!👊🏽
A good mic and a recorder would be a great investment. Seems like great information here, but so much of it is lost in a collapse of your vocal strength on the end of your sentences and phrases (where the key elements are), the poor quality of the sound recording, and the competition from your music. How about a simple lavalier? If you could splurge a little, I'd highly recommend the Rode Go wireless setup. I'll probably watch this several times, and well might buy this lens. But it certainly would be nice if you didn't make us work so hard to get all your information.
Music is to loud, your voice is competing with the music.
Asa WHAT ? Operator ... Did I just miss something?
EdelkronAY? I've never heard it pronounced that way. Is that borrowed from some language pronunciation other than English?
I put my red in storage for a few weeks - took it out, and it wouldn’t read the lens so I couldn’t change the aperture (lots of answers online, seems to happen often) finally, the third solution worked but by then it was almost too dark to shoot - and the weight! - the sheer clunkyness of the camera- ugh! I sold it that week! Great picture though, I’ll give you that!
What was your solution for the lens issue?
@@renthighspeed3994 After two attempted software fixes, it turned out the solution was much more simple: I removed the lens mount and cleaned the contacts (on the camera and the mount) with a q tip soaked in rubbing alcohol - then everything worked perfectly.
my team : Gemini + Komodo
Is it just me or does anyone else think this video is flat and not color graded
nope. it's definetly flat
