Mower basin Trails is a newly developing trail system in the Monongahela National Forest near Huttonsville, WV. The trails offer a bit of flow and technical rock features. The highlight of the trail system for me was the Hawks ridge trail with its views of the Beckys creek wildlife area and then dropping you into s sweet network of dark pine forests, I can not wait to see how this trail system ...

Crit Fit cycling GRVL series review

Crit Fit Cycling gave me the honor of testing out some of there new GRVL clothing line back in July. Since then I have put this gear to the test via races like the Crusher, Marji Gesick 200, and various bike packing adventures. This stuff is the real deal and has proven to me it is able to take a beating and still make me look good. Clothing links: www.critfitcycling.com/collections/mens-cyclin...

The trail begins by climbing a rocky outcropping, the descent from the top is marked with root and rocks galore. but quickly this turns into a high-speed flowy descent. The lower portions are fast and flowy with many side hits along the way. You follow this down to the carp river enjoying the flow the whole way. www.trailforks.com/trails/zueg-s-trail/ www.trailforks.com/trails/new-yellow-192337/

Me and my buddy rode here recently. This place is a hidden gem
Definitely and with the ever expanding Pocahontas trails systems I'm sure it will only get better.
Great video! At no fault of your own, Mower is actually not said like "lawnmower" but rather like "Maui" minus the i but with -er at the end (so, Mauer, I guess). It was the name of the lumber company that originally owned the land...if you've ever been to Cass Scenic Railroad, that was originally the Mower Lumber Company's logging railroad, and those trains actually ran out to the camps on that side of the mountain to collect the logs the woodhicks had cut and hauled them to the lumber mill at Cass! If you've never been, you should check it out and ride the Bald Knob train sometime... They stopped logging that area when the operation shut down in 1960, it was the last area they logged. Beautiful country!
The Mower tract was part of this week’s Marathon of Snowshoe XC course, and the trail builders added a bunch of rowdy new tracks here for the event. Would be great if someone has a map of the new trails.
I competed in the UCI XCM race on wednesday I planned on adding the new stuff the USFS recently built for the race to Trailforks for the area.
Just a guess, but think piñon-juniper forest type, but mostly juniper, or as the locals refer to it as cedar. Like the video. Thanks so much.
Thank you for the video. Is there a part 5 we were missing or is this it?
This is it so far, unfortunately, had some problems and couldn't finish the series. I plan to get part 5 done at some point.
@@crazykransz thank you! I'm doing the 50 this year and this has been helpful.
Bro! I rode this one "with" you. That descent was wicked! I'm sorry you had such bad luck, but cheers to you for seeing it through 👊
It happens just gotta keep moving forward! How did the race go for you?
@@crazykransz true true. Oh, it was great! I started off with a nice blob, rode the big chunk solo and finished with my small crew
Thanks. Great info. I got into the MG 50 2023. First time. Starting to do research. I’m surprised that two bottles are sufficient. Water is the one thing that really concerns me. I sweat buckets and guzzle water. With no planned aid stations I feel like I need to carry so much water.
There are non-race-supported aid stations set up by the community at miles 40, 59, 66, and again at 88. The aid at 66 & 88 are where your drop bag is taken and you hit this same aid twice. Usually, there are other spots with water available throughout the race in random spots each year.
This is oddly relaxing. Keep it up bro.
Thanks man will do, next video will be more talking, but after that I’ll be doing a lot more like this.
Thx for posting. I’ve been curious about making the trek here as an add -on to a Snowshoe trip. Looks worth it!
What size tire did you run on your hard tail?
Maxxis 2.35 ardent race front and 2.20 Icon rear at least that's what I ran last year single speed. I can't remember what I ran on my hardtail in 2016 when I buckled.
One thing you're missing...a rear shock! I can't imagine riding an HT in the Marji! I've ridden the Marji twice & I can't imagine riding an HT. I found parts of it to be very rough...and I was on my trainer!
Haha a rear shock would definitely be nice I raced it this year on a singlespeed HT and I thought I broke my hand it was brutal
How is it on the hardtail? I’m trying to choose between the new top fuel or an epic hardtail
Not as fun, but doable. your hands will hurt like hell for weeks.
Thanks!
By chance did you do the mohican 100 this year? If so how would you compare it to marji?
Mark, Great job on the video, I’m heading up to Marion park this weekend so do you have any updates from this video you did a year ago
I've watched this several times. Very helpful, but my son is worried that your music will give me ear cancer.
I think it gives me ear cancer to! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for sharing Can't wait!
I've ridden in there before on the sbt trail or snow bike trail for any body trying to figure it out and the trails are only a mile and a half away from my house
Where did you get on that trail?
The trails starts at the bottom of the ski trail climb which spurs off of county road PC or Suicide bowl rd. Which I’m just leaving at the start of the video
It's a different part of another trail that it splits off from
What gearing do you run singlespeed?
34x19 right now for up here
Monster….
Really appreciating all of your Marji videos. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
What month did you do this ride? I'm going in 3 weeks?
This was last year 2nd week of August.
Too bad I ride bikes too much to have a gf 😆
Keep 'em coming Mark... This is great stuff. thanks!
thanks for this Mark. I'd like to make a few trips up north prior to race day to familiarize with the trails.
Let me know when you do man, id enjoy showing you around! Might go ride some true gnar at harlow
Great stuff Mark! I think you captured Pine Knob really well. Glad to hear even the top riders have to walk some of that stuff! ;) Thanks so much for doing this.
No problem Erik just dropped the next one, not as technical so it’s not as long. The next video won’t drop till June since I have to wait for the bridge over the Carp River to be installed
Pine Knob is where it all went to hell in a hand basket for me last year... had a flat (exactly where you stopped the video to do some explaining) and the 2 spare tubes I carried were leaky... I had better plans for the next 1.5 hour...
Nice video. I'd prefer to hear the natural trail sounds over the music though.
Still music in the next one but it’s not as loud over the trail sound, I just don’t like people hearing me talk to myself 😂
Thanks Mark. This is good.
Thanks Jeff! Just trying to help out, should have the rest of the series done in the coming months.
@@crazykransz thank you, this is great! I'll be on the lookout for the next one.
Just dropped the next one, not as much going on so it’s shorter, also Lowe’s had too many trees down to video on 😂
@@crazykransz I believe the aid station you mention is the Noquemanon South Trails Trailhead correct? You may want to clarify that this is not the first bag drop in Negaunee.
@@jeffabitz1195 Good catch I will in the next video, Unfortunately, I couldn't finish the last video at the trailhead. But I'll start it there in Part 4 and clarify
Rad video
Thanks man!
The DTN won't even give us people that designed and built the downhill/park trail and jumpline a spot in they're organization lol. Thank you for the shout out! It means a lot to us that put the time and effort into building the fun stuff.
I was thoroughly impressed by all the downhill trails at Millie, they flowed together so well and were so much fun to ride. Keep pestering the DTN to let you guys in, they can make the XC and connector trails and you guys can make the enduro/downhill trails that spur off if you guys could manage that and continue building well put together trails like millie, you guys would have one of the best trail systems in the midwest.
It’s pretty unfortunate the DTN are not allowing the people that built the gravity sections and jump line at Millie be involved in the future proposed trails. Rather they are planning on outsourcing them to a Wisconsin trails company. Pretty unfortunate to say the least. They are on the path of loosing many passionate and skilled volunteers. Millie was built by volunteers and turned out awesome. Why would they want to take that away? Can you tell I’m one of the volunteers? Lol.
Definitely unsettling that they would outsource to a Wisconsin company
Was just at Ogee trails and Millie hill the other week. Millie hill is awesome.
Definitely awesome I really enjoyed my time there!
Love it man!
Damn Covid-19... I would have loved to stop at DTN this summer, sadly I don't think I will be traveling this summer. This place does look very promising and tons of fun.
It's very promising if they continue building trails like Green and Orange trail. I highly suggest stopping just to check them out.
9 miles of going down sounds fun.
Looks like fun for sho!
Looks like an awesome trail. Ride On!
How did you make out at the 200 mile option?
It was a good day had 26hrs of moving time for the race and managed second with a buckle. I apologize for the lack of follow up videos, RUclipss been giving me troubles uploading longer videos.
I feel like you left parts of the race out.
Only a few miles here or there.
@@crazykransz When are you going to release the part two from forrestville to lowes?
@@9270jk I have that bit on my Go Pro still however youtube isn't accepting my download so as soon as I can figure out the problem the next section should be live.
Good news I finally figured out how to post videos again... bad news I lost the video fills for the rest of the Marji.
0:45, that’s where I went over the bars lol
That sections tricky especially when its wet!
As someone that's getting ready to attempt their first Marji Gesick this is great! I'd love to see more of these for each of the different sections/trail systems.
More videos were my goal unfortunately I broke my equipment so I won't have every section up before the start of Marji.
so rough, should you ride a mountain bike?
For the 100 mile course yes I would at least front squish.
Thanks for adding these, please keep them coming!
Will do I'll have the next 15 miles up here next week.
Mark Kransz : also if you could talk about bike setup and how you carry your supplies, fuel and hydration would be appreciated.
Will do I'll try getting it into the third video
LOL you actually ran. Good point about starting your Garmin BEFORE the run ;)
Yes I did, it's a very good tip.
So what’s the bug spray that seams to be working?
Meijer off brand
So were the aero bars worth it or na?
For the 100 miler no, for the 225 yes this was basically a test ride for the aero bars. I'll definitely be running them for the 225.
Great day to race. Sold out field after a long winter. Good job on your time.
A perfect day, great temps, and sunny. Thanks man!
Im here Mark!
Kevin, when are you gonna, come up for a shred-fest?
