Nice purple heart
That thing is awesome looks and concept. Was wondering how it is tuned? I think it would be cool if it is EA on the fretted and EADG on the fretless.
fun indeed
I was just wondering if anyone had done something like this! Very cool.
That is INSANE! 😊 Awesome looking bass and a brilliant concept!
Kahlar tremelos only bassist love.
That’s a sweet bass man. Very Claypool with enough differentiation to recognize it’s not exactly a Carl Thompson clone.
gonna for sure comment and like. not really my jam but man i do admire the craftmanship.
thats one crazy instrument, and i fucking love it
Wow looks great
siiiick, I just wanna say that I would love to own one
That scale length is … not enough for the lowest string imo. Then again I’m a bass player x)
It’s crazy that the low notes have so much clarity despite scale length being so short and the strings being so thin. Normally basses that go that low have much longer scale lengths and use much heavier strings.
So yeah..... where do I buy this!?!?
@@Sackalicious check your inbox. 👍🏻
On a good day I would know what to do with 6 of those strings. ....... assuming I retuned the top half like a guitar. Cool build, but I don't think I could handle it. Lol
Incredible craftsmanship. It is a work of art. Althought, the string spacing makes me pause and wonder about playability. I ordered a custom guitar a few years ago (different builder) and went with a smaller and tighter nut width than usual..thinking it would be a good idea. Big mistake. I waited 2 years for the thing (it was built during the height of the lockdowns) and totally regret the nut width. You wouldn't think it, but just a single millimeter or two can make a huge difference it how a guitar feels. Everything else about my guitar is perfect...but the narrow nut causes issues when playing any type of chord below roughly the 3rd fret.......especially when open strings are needed...as. I am constantly accidently muting them. I see the same issues arising with the guitar in this video. Especially if playing as a traditional bass. But after saying all of that, this thing is a work of art.
You could always turn the 1st or 2nd fret in a zero fret, remove the frets behind (nearest the headstock, get a luthier to cut a nut slot into the fretboard behind it. makes the nut wider as it tapers with the neck and will give you an extra mil or two,. might have to deal with inlays being out of place, but if you go with doing it on the second fret, a lot of the inlays will actually line up (ie, the 5th fret inlay becomes 3rd, 7th becomes 5th etc) I did this with a 34" inch scale bass after a hand/arm injury left playing full scale quite fatiguing and stress inducing for long gigs. Compensate up a guage in the strings and hey presto. It really does work. Just a thought before you give up on a hopefully beautiful custom instrument.
Charlie Hunter would be the guy for this instrument.
Oh my hod that looks so fun
omg can I buy this it's perfect I do think you should've used bass pickups though
so a 9 string baritone?
@@jasonmartin-x5p Tuned an octave lower.
Insaaaaaane
Excellent work, very interesting
Beautiful wood choices. I can see a jazzer digging this.
love it, love everything you've done to it.
That is a monster of sound.
B-b-b-bb-b-b-b-b-bbbeeasstttt
nice job its a beautiful instrument. would love to hear a full sound demo on it. may be worth it to collab with a known 9 string player to really see what it can do. cant wait to see more!
im building an 8 string that looks simmilar.
Genuinely impressed by the clarity and note definition on the low F#. That sounds just as good as the 37" .168 on my multiscale bass! Obviously the tension leaves something to be desired, but thats kinda just the price for doing the impossible. 😆 Well-made!
@@JoshZanders Thanks! Yeah, tension is one thing, but with a light touch this works great.
* Joshua Travis would like to know your location * 🤣🤣
That has a very usable sound. What a beautiful guitar all around...
Work of art.
The Ibanez RGIR9FME (that I bought a month ago) has two bass guitar strings for the 9 - C#1 and 8 - F#1. However the two machine heads have guitar mechanisms but bass posts; the guitar body has two bass ferrules and eight guitar ferrules - I'm going to create one of my Octave Method books for it. Like your creation a lot but would have stopped at 24 frets if it was mine.
What os the scale lenght?❤
It is standard tuning C#- F#-B e a d g b e?
@@zakvlad1624 yes it's the same as an 8 string guitar plus the extra C#.
@@zakvlad1624 28" standard frets ( not fanned or multi-scale ).
would be a great bass for playing some Jean Baudin
@@Cryogenic5 Absolutely!
Thats a crazy looking and amazing sounding instrument! Congrats on your creation, my friend!
Is this thing available for purchase by chance? Thing is absolutely sweet asf
@@Catspss Actually, no. This one is a commission build, but i’d be more than happy to build one for you. Shoot me an email, beardlycustoms@gmail.com.
I like your work, man. This thing is cool
that looks classy, beautiful instrument. i could see this being used from jazz fusion to thall.
gimme a while to try and afford one of these haha
Wow. That is exceptional. 🤘
For some reason the spacing between frets 23 and 24 seems to be off slightly, making a bit of a V shape starting from the treble side. Must be an optical illusion from the radius, kind hard to tell.
@@sentientabyss4734 Gonna go with optical illusion.
how do you do the truss rod on these things, do you even put one in?
It has a truss rod. You can see the nut on the headstock
@@vlorschbuug Yep, there’s one in this.
Nice brother!
DIOS mio ese bass guitars, 9 cuerdas es una bestia depredadora, los tonos graves son fabulosos y los tonos agudos también. Que claridad. Me encantan las maderas que usastes RICK.
That is insane. Looks beautiful
What a cool bass.
Looks stunning, would be nice to hear it through a behemoth amp and direct to your interface
Wow I found your channel I also live in NY. That is a beautiful bass. I do I contact you?
OK I heard how to contact you in the video
Well done Rick!!!!
That's absolutely beautiful! I love the full access cutaway and neck profile to the last fret.
freaking beautiful :0
