The first track test proved the concept had potential so the car was further refined. Many new updates include carbon fiber shock towers and front brace, a new front battery location and quirky body to match this unique Tamiya. Check out the track footage and also some impressions on the car that I've included. I'm thoroughly enjoying this TD2 at the track. The car is handling well, been durabl...
PROJECT Tamiya TD-2: Track Test

I intend to make a more detailed video when this project is completed but the short version is that I wanted to see if I could make my Tamiya buggy more competitive against the other race cars from big brands at my local track. I loved the unique inboard suspension of the TD2 but it was a limiting factor because it was very challenging to tune. In this project I have re-designed the front end t...

Just a short video of a Tamiya BBX buggy that I just completed running on the local astro-turf track. Tamiya has made a very unique buggy that is extremely enjoyable to drive. It isn't going to be beating any race-bred buggies, but it actually handles very well and provides a very unique driving experience. It feels a bit like driving a real car because the car requires more careful throttle an...

How does it compare to your Ymax 2 setup?
Awesome! Great upgrade.
Great video :) thanks for posting! all excited for ours arriving next week and gettting our build video posted. Love your channel, beeen watching you since we got the V4 last year.
I shake when I unbox a new rc
Do you have any PR Racing distributors in Europe or shops to buy the kit, spare parts and optionals? Thank you
I am based in Asia, but from what I can tell there are is no distributor in Europe although Modeltune (modeltune.co.uk/) does stock PR products.
ATC in Belgium and Wartelle in France.
@@marklim7851Where do u get it from asia?
Built a S1V4 a month ago, have the B10R laying around for about three weeks, still have to build it. The things in which PR Racing made a good impression on me: 1. The quality of the machined parts. 2. The quality of the moulded parts. 3. The tolerances of all the fits between the parts. All the perfect tight, sliding and loose fits, for whatever function where needed, without unnecessary slop. 4. The amount of complex/machined parts received in a kit for the price point. For other brands, mostly have to be purchased separately. 5. The amount of car setup options out of the box, which includes various extra parts. The overall quality is unlike any other RC kit I've ever built before. This includes both competition RC 3D helicopter and car kits, from numerous AAA brands. Even without mentioning how competitive the PR Racing kits are priced.
Thank you for your comment. I couldn't agree more. I would add to that the fact that the cars are very *VERY* capable on the track. I also appreciate that their cars are never really outdated in the sense that many of the upgrades on their new cars are backward compatible with the versions before.
I think they should have included the front antiroll bar
Nobody does unless you buy a carpet version. Would be nice if they made a carpet version
@littlecncshop this is the carpet version, it has the geardiff and rear roll bars. The other brands do include the rollbar like ae
@StickyGeko you mean only ae does? Tlr, xray, and tekno don't.
Is this track in Singapore?
Yes it is. It is located in Bukit Panjang.
Your english is good.
Thank you very much. Here in Singapore where I'm located it is our first language.
@@marklim7851 English?
@@bradkalman2353 yes, English. :)
They need to make them again front wheel drive buggies.
I'm not sure there is a big enough market for them but they would be awesome fun on the track!
@@marklim7851 and they could race against 4wd and 2wd.
You plan on doing a t d 4 like this?
It would be an interesting challenge. However, the TD4 out of the box is (in my opinion) quite a decent performer already and with a bit of tuning I think it would work pretty well on the track where I run. The TD2 was good fun on dirt but I could not get that front end to work on astro (at least without massive time and effort).
Can you fit a Justock XR10 ESC with fan under the body? It is about 34x29x32mm_tall?
I haven't physically tried, but I don't see why not. There should be sufficient space to fit that ESC with fan.
Hey man! Have you seen the 3D Printed Badger RC Car? it as the FF form factor and many people say that its quite an amazing 3D Printed RC very durable too
I think I saw some videos on that. I think the guys that design and print 3D RC cars are brilliant! But I'm very curious if a 3D printed RC car would be able to withstand the rigours of track racing - especially with the guys I run with. lol! maybe something to try in the future.
@@marklim7851 some say they can now, the materials have been improving ever so slightly with 3d printing, the stuff I heard they use is just PLA+ an advance version of pla that is tough enough to withstand impacts, also if some parts do break you basically have the manufacturing power to make a replacement for cheap~
Hey this truck is on sale at my local shop. I want to get it but noticed that there’s no mount for the motor fan. Are you able to mount a fan at all? If so, how?
I've seen this one sold by Ridelow racing (ridelowracing.com/product/pr-racing-pr-s1-v3-fan-mount/) but I have not tried it myself. I have a small 3D fan mount that locates the fan in the space just in front of the motor end-bell. I think it would be possible just to use heavy-duty double-sided tape to mount one there.
thanks for the comment. :)
Do you plan on making those parts files available for anyone?
Hi, thanks for the comment. I'm not sure there would be people interested given that this is quite a massive change in the front of the car.
Got that driver mod! You running stock springs?
Yes, the car is running stock springs. :)
@@marklim7851 looks really good, can’t wait to pick one up
Excellent driving
Thank you. The car felt balanced and easy to drive so that definitely helped. :)
Imho it would work better if the battery is turned 90 degrees and extended in between the rear arms. As is this buggy will nosedive on bigger jumps.
Thanks for the input. Typically FF buggies need the weight closer to the front for drive traction... but as you have mentioned, the trade-off is the tendency to nose-dive.
Hmmm, a modern buggy that comes with body and wheels and appears to be a quality product is tempting. I need a buggy for high grip tracks as my hb d216 doesn’t handle them so well (diff issues). Ausrab industries is the distributor in Australia, hopefully they stay on top of parts support.
The PR buggies are certainly the most under-rated racing cars. They are refined, robust and spares are typically very well-priced. The only question is whether you have a source for parts support where you are at. :)
Did you end up getting the PR buggy and if so, how's your experience been? I'm intrigued by PR but not so fond of Ausrab Industries after having a bad experience with them.
It seems like a “mid motor” style mount for flipping the motor behind the shock tower would be the way…. I’d like to see it done…
This would be an idea I have been thinking about trying as well, its just that time (and all the other project ideas) have not allowed that to happen. One day though... :)
I would consider this about the most forward you can make the cab on a buggy before aesthetics degrade. It, itself, looks amazing, however.
Thank you. This car is certainly one that has special meaning for me in my 'garage' of project cars. While I've grown to appreciate cab-forward bodies over time, I'll choose a mid or rear cab design anyday. :)
Is this 1/8th scale, or just a nice, big, open, high speed 1/10th scale track?
Hi there, this is a dedicated 1/10 track. Sadly it has gradually been converted to feature more astro-turf because dirt is so hard to maintain. Always appreciate your track owners I say. :)
I agree with you on the mid and rear cab bodies looking nicer. As far as your design goes, Schumacher has done a belt drive with forward motor in some of their buggies. IDR if they were as far forward as yours, however. In any case, consider looking into either a 2-idler gear or 4-idler gear transmission so that you can get the motor spinning the same way as the tires. This should add gyroscopic inertia, as well as increase inertial torque which will make mid-air control more responsive and possibly cause the rear to squat down/plant the tires a little more for higher grip. Another thing I want to see someone try is to have a REAR motor car, but with all the other electronics mounted as far forward as possible (without going AHEAD of the axle, except the servo, which can be between the shock tower) with a transverse batter that's ALSO far forward. The idea would be to get approximately the same or similar overall weight distribution as a mid-motor car but to increase the torque lever at the rear axle by having the mass of the motor behind it. The intention of this is to improve rotation/turn in responsiveness.
Thanks for the comment. Based on my understanding, the motor in my buggy is slightly further forward than the Schumacher buggy you are referring to (I love Schumacher designs btw). 4-gear vs 3-gear transmissions are such an interesting discussion - both offer unique pros and cons. Over time, I've personally come to prefer 3-gear setup on high grip tracks exactly because of the reduced weight transfer. The cars stay flatter over acceleration - but importantly during braking - for stability in corners. The 4-gear cars can give great acceleration out of corners, but on braking can make the steering come on fast and hard. All in the setup I suppose. A rear-motor car with forward electronics sounds interesting. Thanks for the interesting project idea! :)
Are those body posts STL available on thingiverse or anywhere else? Thanks for the video!
Would you recommend to use ball bearings and slipper delete?
Thanks for the comment. The car comes with ball bearings in the kit. As for a slipper eliminator I think that would be best for stock 17.5 racing to reduce rotating mass. PR does sell one.
@@marklim7851 it does not come with ball bearings. Ball bearings is an option parts for 60USD. But thanks!
May I know which part of sg is this?
This is the SEGAR track located in Bukit Panjang.
Good to see you again ✌
Thanks. I have videos to do but have been a bit busy. Hopefully I'll get them done soon. :)
That car performs better than it has any right to 👍👍
I really couldn't agree more... and this on stock tires too!
Great video and you gave alot of detailed information about your setup which helps someone like me who is new to 2wd platforms. Thank you for taking the time to put the video together. This may be my first "race kit" 2wd buggy
Thank you. I'm really glad you find the information helpful. :)
Any good for dirt ?
I think as with most race buggies today the kit was designed primarily with higher grip surfaces in mind. It doesn't mean it won't work on dirt, but I think it would take some setup especially on the shock package and the tires. PR does offer a ball diff which will help tremendously on dirt. The V3 had won our local nationals on a dirt track, so it is possible. :)
Sg?
Yes. This is the Segar track.
battery time?
I'm afraid I've never timed it... but it lasts quite a bit. :)
Its such an interesting track , its setup under a bridge ? Highway ? .
Yes this track is actually a community built track under a highway. Given our weather here it is a great plus as we are able to run our cars there except when the rain is extremely heavy.
Very interesting story behind this! I was looking up the Bulldog body, I just ordered one for use on a Kyosho Dirtmaster, which I haven't even bought yet... But just looking around... Very nice video, I really enjoyed listening to your voiceover, lots of good knowledge and history, very interesting. I see you still make some videos, so I went and subscribed.
Thanks for the nice comment. Where did you manage to find a bulldog body? I would love to get my hands on one or two for future projects. Yes I am still making videos but I work on these projects in my free time and as you can imagine they take some time to put together. Thank you for subscribing... motivates me to get to work on another vid soon.
Where is the place ? How to go? Any car park near by?
This is located at Bukit Panjang (Segar offroad track) and there is a carpark abot 3-5minutes away. If you need a more detailed location let me know how I can get in touch. :)
Great video, buggy looks sick and luv location of track great job 👍
Thanks 👍 Appreciate the kind comment.
Not a new concept at all ..... ! Schumacher did exactly that design with the KF ten years ago . . . !
Hey there, thanks for the comment. You are spot on that the KF sported a layout with similarities to my project car, and the KC that came after allowed even more motor positions - I always appeciate how Schumacher has their unique design philosophies. :) I compared my car with a friend's KC and the two key differences were that the Yokomo transmission is a hybrid belt-gear system and that the central transmission on my buggy is slightly further forward.
How do you order one
You may try looking up a PR dealer in your country. If you are in Singapore you can head to the RaceWorks facebook page.
Excellent design!
Thank you very much!
Very cool! Keep it up! 👍🏼
Thanks! More projects to come! :)
Ever thoguht of selling it?
It's really hard to part ways with my projects because of the work that's gone into each one... I doubt anyone would ever be willing to pay what I think they are worth (to me at least). lol
You are a real racer ,building a car is something very few do anymore and wow yours is cool and I bet it’s about as far forward as motor needs to be. If you want to start making your own parts look at the unimat lathe and mill it’s a great tool and small perfect for rc
Thank you for your kind comments. Building a unique car that works at the track is always a thrill for me. :)
Coolest custom buggy I've ever seen. My friend did something similar using a Tekno 4wd set up to make a 2wd with better weight distribution. Enjoyable video, great design. Cheers!
Thanks for the kind words. The Tekno would be an awesome base for a 2wd buggy conversion. There was a small run of nicely made conversion kits (I think by a company in Australia iirc) some years back... I'd love to get my hands on one sometime to see how it runs. :)
@@marklim7851 willspeed is also a good contender when speaking of custom buggys.
Very interesting project👍 subbed!
Thanks for the comment and the sub!
Great project. New Sub! awesome video thanks for sharing...👍
Appreciate the sub. Thank you!
I've always enjoyed seeing your builds.. very inspiring.
Thanks, knowing there are guys who enjoy the content makes the effort to edit them worthwhile. :)
Have you seen the Schumacher cougar KF or the KC which is a similar design of very forward motor 2wd.
Yes I have seen those awesome buggies. I really like how Schumacher often innovates when it comes to buggy design. The KF and KC certainly gave me hope that my concept would work. The key differences are that the Ymax2 still uses a rear gearbox (vs the pure belt drive) and the motor is further forward. Hope we continue to see more innovative buggies in the future. :)
Awesome build and thanks for the knowledge! So glad I stumbled upon your channel. 👍😊
Thank you for the kind words. :)
