I must’ve listened to this more times than I can remember. Film scores are an underrated part of any movie. Gladiator for instance I know the sequel isn’t as good as the original but a big part of it was that the score was largely forgettable. Hard to improve Zimmer’s work. John Williams work has defined cinema. The impact of music is just as important as the visual.

Whenever I hear this song, one word comes to mind.... Innocence. I think of my nine year old self watching that romance in flight on that big screen and wanting it for myself. I crushed hard on Margot Kidder after that. Such a beautiful score

It was until many years later that I learned that Henry Mancini composed this. I of course knew of him through the Pink Panther theme and I was so surprised he did this. Really wish he could have done each song individually as well because he did such a fabulous job and gave them a real Christmas feel to them. From what I can hear, it sounds like he did Deck The Halls, Joy to the World, 12 Days of Christmas, Away in a Manger, Oh Christmas Tree, Silver Bells and Silent Night. There was one I couldn’t identify, but it sounded like it could have been Chestnuts roasting on an open fire; but I’m not certain.

I was the manager of a movie theater in Atlanta when this was released. Big screen plus Dolby Sound was amazing! I always had the projectionist crank up the volume for the viewers. Never received a complaint.

Poor Charlie he loved Hetty once the first women he fell in love with and he never forgot her. She was his inspiration for his on screen female heroines in his movies.
