The most common furnace in an Apache camper is the Hydro-flame HF-12. This video will show you how to remove and clean the burner unit, particularly the pilot jet, which is often clogged, preventing the furnace from starting up.

Question, I can't find a video. Once the four nuts are removed does the box just drop below the bolts and then slide off the main shaft

This video was so helpful. I just bought an Apache where one side wouldn't lift. I thought it might be the chains based on other videos and facebook posts. I pulled the gear boxes. Based on this video i noticed the pins were not in place. Disassembled the boxes and found both pins bent in the bottom of the box. I pushed the boxes together and twisted the where the crank goes and noticed one was going in the opposite direction. Someone must have cleaned it and put the gears in backwards. So one box was going one way the other box going other way. They must have been fighting each other and bent the pins. The previous owner said he always just pushed one side up while it was being cranked up. Pins were $25 versus $250 for the chains. So glad that is all it ended up being. I could not have done this without all the insights in this video. Thank you!!!

Just bought a Apache project. Can you answer why both my gear box's turn 1/4 inch and stop abruptly? Like it's locked. Is there a lock on the box?

Too long to reply here. Go to FB, Apache Camper Preservation Society, search my name and send me a DM. I'll reply through there.

Just one screw to hold the burn on !

You may not have listened to the audio, where I say that 9 screws hold the burner unit onto the combustion chamber. :-)

Lee, I changed the bent pin out but the new one still rubs against the casing & still makes it difficult to move. Any suggestions?
