www.nseoultower.co.kr/eng/ The N Seoul Tower is actually very close to the city centre, the central station or the Deoksugung Palaces or even the Gyeongbokgung Palace. @13:42 that toilet looks like it would’ve been quite tricky to transfer onto? 🤔 On the whole it looks like the service is very typically Japanese: super attentive, polite and helpful with a very defined & repeatable procedure for everyone to follow. I imagine as a tourist it really takes the sting out of having accessibility concerns *and* the language barrier, but I wonder if it’s the same for locals, or if they can just turn up and go? Nothing makes my heart sink more than having to wait, then be accompanied, then wait some more, then have someone else appear and have to make small talk with them too when all I want to do is a journey I’m more than familiar with and did 1m times as an able bodied traveller before my paralysis… that level of “assistance” can get pretty frustrating after a while.

    • @Wheelchairtravels
      @Wheelchairtravels 2 дня назад

      On a very first days (for the 1st time ever) in Tokyo the assistance was very needed as the railway system might look overwhelming and complicated. But after a few days of getting used to it I said exactly something like "the system and its accessibility is so great that the help is actually not needed". But i assume that this is not for every wheelchair as some might need a ramp between station and wagon even with a very small gap. On my next visit (if lucky) I'll learn a phrase "I'm ok on my own, thank you" ...but maybe because of safety reasons they have to provide a help with ramp anyway. I don't mind it at all. And with small talks you can learn a new words too.

    It’s so very good that they are willing to stay and make sure you get to your train and the station names are in English and they are waiting for you to arrive to help you to exit the station. In the uk you are on your own with no or very little help

    • @Wheelchairtravels
      @Wheelchairtravels 16 дней назад

      The whole network in Tokyo (and other big cities) is so well signed and levelled that (after a few days of getting used to public transport) sometimes the help even wasn't needed, but still provided. But it is a different story for some rural stations.

  • @aso_katano
    @aso_katano 24 дня назад

    It took a very long time, but Japanese railway companies started with Braille blocks, installed lifts on platforms, eliminated steps and even designed train floors to be almost level with the platform. What I admire about the Japanese railways is that they are proud to support public transport. It has evolved quite wonderfully since JR was the national railway.

      Of course. But you need to know that English is not my first language. I'm Polish. I wouldn't expect you to speak Polish when you visit Poland except for some basic phrases. And that's what I did when I was preparing to visit Japan - learn at least basic daily words.
