I want to watch your videos but some are about an hour. I’m only a lurker on RUclips but only like 10-30ish minute videos. Only made it through the first 5 minutes of this one. I’m a lifted GX470 owner in AZ. Look up Raidan Overland. You do more true overlanding than him but his videos are only 10 minutes long.
What some good 3rd apps to have on the tread xl ?
Check out my video on how to install third-party apps(apk files). I list all of the apps I have installed and how to go about the process.
How do you do fuel prices on the tread xl
First step is to have the Garmin Tred app opened on your phone and be in an area that you have cell service. Second step, if you haven’t already, is to confirm your phone is linked to the Garmin Tred Xl(you will see a capital T notification at the top left of the device). From there while you are on the Home Screen you press “Where to”. There will be a menu option for fuel prices and stations near you with options to navigate to them. Note: If you are not in cell service you can still see and navigate to the gas stations but you won’t see live pricing.
Awesome got it to work. Thanks 👍
Matt, great video and well timed from side of things. I just got a 2013 GX with 74K. I started on a plug replacement job and am having a hard time removing the wire connector from coil #7 near driver side fire wall. It is tight in there. Any recommendations or guidance to get that coil disconnected and removed?
Congrats on the GX460! That one is hard to get to! I found #5 hard to unclip as well with the tolerances and my hands haha. To answer your question tho. If I can't get it by hand I will grab a set of adjustable pliers. Adjust them out so they are bearly grabbing the size of the connector with the push release in. Just be careful to make sure you are not crushing the connector. There are special pliers out there that are labeled "electrical disconnect pliers" which can be had for about $20. I should probably pick up a set, but I'm a special tool type of guy haha. Here is an amazon affiliate link to those pliers if you're interested... amzn.to/4gXXnJO
Thanks for the tip. I will grab one of those electrical disconnect pliers. The “other” issue I discovered when changing the spark plugs is I found oil on #1 and #5 plug threads. Thinking valve cover gaskets and tube seals need to be replaced. Bringing the GX back to the dealer to see if this work can be done under 30 day / 1000 mi warranty. Fingers crossed. Other than that, truck has been driving great.
@@adamgulsvig5615 Yeah it's a common leak on higher mileage engines....mine is doing it too. High on my list of things I want to take care of this year. Fingers crossed for you on the 30-day warranty!
Great video.
Thank you; I appreciate the feedback!
Well if you got the money 💰 to do it, go for it! It's all about how you want your GX 460 to run. Just remember guys you don't need an expensive suspension system to go overlanding. Dobison, ARB, and other middle range reliable suspension will do fine. I'm running the IMS Dobison suspension with no resivore at 2.5 inches of lift with Dobison front and rear bumpers. I'm running the medium heavy springs to support the weight of the bumpers and gear with 255/80/17 Open Country Toyo Tires with Method rims and Dr. KDSS, Treaty parts. Not nocking anyone else on what they want to run. It's all about you and how you want it set up. Just do your research and have fun with your build. 😊
You’re not wrong. You can overland with any vehicle you have with stock suspension. I’ve seen plenty of stock Subarus farther into trails than most people will take their 4x4’s. As far as the Ride Shocks goes. The big factor here is the main valve tune and reservoir tune is setup for each weight band or custom to your exact vehicle. Nothing on the market can be bought off the shelf with this level of tune. For me…this is huge. To some…they might not care or push the vehicle enough to notice.
Air down and nice suspension for the win!
Indeed! Absolutely loving the new Ride Shocks. Great on road, phenomenal on trail chatter, and also eat up the desert at high speeds. Couldn’t ask for more from a bolt on application.
Thanks for sharing such valuable information! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Can you tell us a little bit more about where you store it? Or where you would recommend storing it?
Great question! I mount my ARB jack behind my second row seats in a horizontal position. I use straps that wrap around the jack in two locations and tie into the anchor points on the back of the seats(designed for child seats). Ideally you would want to store the ARB Jack in a vertical position. I would suggest inside the vehicle if possible but outside the vehicle, maybe on a rear bumper swing out, as long as the jack is inside the carrying bag would also be acceptable.
thank you!! such a good piece of kit and being wasted with being only used for off-roading. You just allowed me to have a super good chartplotter for my boat with the Garmin Boating app. I've used the APKPure as I couldn't use the APKMirror. very much appreciated, for sure this channel will grow.
What sliders are those?
They are the Expedition One sliders. Hands down my favorite sliders on the market. Rock solid construction. Great powder coat! Flat plated bottom with a slight angle so they slide over rocks and don’t get hung up. Nice integrated aluminum tread plate/step that’s very useable. They also included LEDs that replace the factory courtesy lights; which work just like factory. Approach the vehicle/open the door. The lights come on and illuminate the ground under the sliders. Only Con: weight. They are an absolute unit of a slider.
This is so similar to mine I have the same off set roof top tent and roof rack/roof tent issue
Did you ever try a different spring on the Dobinson?
I did not. The springs I had both front and rear were matched to the weight of the vehicle.
Been waiting to find something like this for a while! thanks for the info.
Glad I could help!
Been waiting for you to do this video - thanks!
No problem!
U kept original springs?
@@galeriafuentes I kept the same rear Dobinsons springs(c59-329). Note: Ride shocks does offer multiple rear spring options as well but I already had the correct rear springs for my weight. The front shocks come pre assembled with Eibach Springs that are spec’d based on your vehicles weight band. In my case that was a 14” 700lb spring.
Good video but your hand moving around the entire time made the camera focus not work very well.
I agree. I learn something everytime I shoot a video. It’s one of the best parts about making videos!
I own one and I have to say its the first Garmin I have ever owned (and I have owned many) that is not intuitive at all.
That’s interesting to hear! I’m an old Android fan that converted to Apple. I found the learning curve was longer than with Apple products but once I got use to it the features and capabilities are class leading. Just completed a 4 week overland trip totaling over 6k miles. The Garmin was a total game changer for this trip. I came from Gaia and OnX off-road on an IPad. I wouldn’t go back to the iPad setup if someone paid me.

7:42 The press and hold power to bring up menu was huge. I somehow got the screen on max dim and had no idea how to get back. Tks.
Want me to really blow your mind? Next time you are at the device...pull down from the top. This will pull down the menu. Pull down again on that menu that appeared. It will give you ANOTHER way to adjust the brightness. I did this on accident the other day. Blew my mind haha
Seems weird that they don’t have a first gen Tacoma option. They seem like a good option
@@trackstandking I’d call and inquire. Maybe it’s in the pipeline or could be with enough interest? I’ve been working with John over there. He’s a great guy; SUPER knowledgeable and helpful!
You could use all kinds of good adjective to describe it. What really matters is the shock dyno and spec. At least know its max length, minimal compressed length to understand its full shock travel, then help people understand what was tuned to handle your weight. Yours GX is at least 6200 lbs.
Hadn’t heard of these guys until your unboxing video. Interested in hearing how they held up through the winter.
@@frikinalex I will absolutely do a follow up after this winter. They are aluminum body with a nice anodized finish so I’m confident they will hold up great! I’m also running the front shock socks and this setup comes with rear shock boots. That will also help prolong service life significantly.
Can you link an existing inreach device to this overland device? I have an inreach mini I also use to hike, so really don’t want to pay monthly fees on a second device but would love to use the larger interface.
@@cdnjeepoverland unfortunately I don’t have an answer to that question but Garmin’s customer service is super friendly and I’m sure they would help you!
Awesome Build, Congrats. How was the rust on the undercarriage being from Illinois? I found one with 100% Lexus servicing, timing chain done, 1 owner. The skid plate was completely rusted (which is understandable), but it had a lot of surface rust underneath. Makes me nervous having driven on salted roads for 10 years. Uggh, you find the unicorn but there is always something.
This one had some slight surface rust in certain spots. I coated all of it in Fluid Film before my first winter with it. I’ve reapplied every year at least once before winter as well…or after any significant wheeling trip. I highly recommend using Fluid Film on any vehicle in the salt belt. The new black version is even nicer because it gives the frame a nice black finish instead of the yellowish finish of non colored product. It is indeed hard to find the unicorns out there. I looked for over a year then flew one way to buy it. I got super lucky. Paid a great price; cheaper than they are now that’s for sure. Superb service records and condition. Fully optioned with radar cruise, auto high beams, and the off road package that has crawl control and hill descent modes. Only option it didn’t have was the rear infotainment screens which I didn’t want anyway. I got super lucky; but they are out there!
How did you put Waze and Gaia on there? What file did you download
If you can share with me or make a video?
I’ll be making an entire video on how to do that when I get back from this overland trip. Stay posted!
@ thank you! Hopefully that’s because I go on mines in 3 weeks lol. Palo Duro Canyon
@@cf6306 awesome! I probably won’t have it filmed, edited, and posted within three weeks but I absolutely will make a video on this. Service is spotty here in the desert but feel free to follow me on insta and shoot me a dm. I’ll happily share the steps with you via dm; that way you’re ready for your trip.
Good Evening, I sent you a DM on instagram
My wrist and hand hurt watching this.
It's actually a King Size bed with the original 2 mattresses I have the 2.0 and it has a few features i like better. It looks huge on my GX470. If you was local I'd love to compare or allow you to do a comparison video. Mic sounds Perfect fyi.
Thanks for the feedback on the mic! Super happy with it. You are absolutely correct on the king mattress from the factory. I slept 3 nights on that piece of foam and immediately took it out 😂. Luckily I already owned an Exped Duo XL Long so it was an easy swap.
Just did a quick rewatch before walking outside to replace mine. Thanks for the clear instructions!
I would be interested on what exactly you had to do to the ARB front bumper to get it to fit from the Prada 150 to your GX. I had an ARB bumper on a 2nd gen 4Runner and loved it! Kind of curious to hear the sound from the snorkel since you mentioned it. Nice build!!
I actually had Main Line Overland install it for me. Really it’s a lot of cutting of the factory bumper cover but otherwise it’s a “bolt on” install. They have done quite a few of them so I believe they have a template or at least cut line measurements. I know you can do a full Prado conversion on the GX460 which is also bolt on minus some potential wiring for the headlights depending on your year. If that paints a picture at all; the GX460 and Prado are darn near the same minus the body work and engine/transmission.
Can you hook up the Garmin Dash cam to this unit.
You can hook up backup cameras from Garmin but I don’t know of a dash cam integration. Double check compatibility on Garmin’s site.
can you share us about your mount system? Thanks
@@ton-thattai8952 absolutely. It’s the Ohana Rig Supply dash mount. It just came in so I don’t have much time in testing yet. I do plan on making a review video of it coming soon!
@ Thank you
hy..want too reset widget arrangement? is possible. Or too delete..ex..first display big ..WHER TO + VIEW MAP..i want too exceeded this with anther..tx
You can absolutely customize the widgets and each of the home screens. The Garmin runs on an android operating system with some slight restrictions from Garmin. In other words it’s highly customizable. For example I run JBV1 for my radar detector that auto starts and parks itself in the background. Any alerts get overlaid on my screen as if it came from Garmin that way. It’s super trick!
@@triplelockedadventures ok, thanks, I tried but I couldn't change them
@ I’ll try to explain it but it’s hard to type out. I’ll make a video in the future in customization, sideloading apps, etc. Either way: if you are on your Home Screen you can long press and drag any icon or widget to the “X” on the screen. This will delete said selection. To add widgets or icons go to “apps” and long press a selection. It will give you the option to add a widget from there. Otherwise for just the icon/shortcut you can long press and drag to the main pages. Hopefully that helps. It’s kind of hard to word it without showing.
Great video.Does this unit show live traffic on the GPS ? Also does it come with México maps ? Or can they be purchased?
Great questions! It does indeed show live traffic on the GPS. For that function to work you will need to have the Garmin Tred app open on your phone and have the phone be connected to the internet. Mexico maps are included if you buy a unit anywhere in North or South America. If you buy a unit elsewhere the South America map pack is available to purchase on Garmin’s website.
Thank You for the fast response.Ive owned the Garmin Overlander for a while and not sure of I should do the upgrade. The overlander has live traffic when you purchase a sepárate power cable and México maps are included.
I read somewhere that Garmin changed the way live traffic works. Now you need the Tred app to have that function. Before I believe it was using some sort of radio waves to tie into local traffic communications. The Mexico map is indeed preloaded. I just double checked. I can see live traffic in Mexico as well; obviously with the tred app open.
That’s great.Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. My 8” version arrived this week and it is impressive! Just waiting on the Ohana Rig Supply dash piece to arrive to make it more “permanent.” Looking forward to your next video on the Tread. And thanks for firing this channel up. Good stuff all around… from a Vermont GX460 off-roader.
You’re going to love that ORS mount. I JUST got mine two weeks ago. Super easy to install and very sturdy. …hello from Western NY. Wife and I LOVE Vermont. It’s always held a special place in our hearts.
Thank you for this video Im having my jeep gladiator Willys built out with alucap camper as we speak to go around the world and was doing research for navigation and I think this Tread xl is the way to go but I was concerned as im iPhone and I will have starlink mini aswell but I hope that the Garmin system does work globally?
The Garmin Tred XL does indeed work for global travel but you will need to purchase additional map packs from Garmin. If your in the USA and purchase the Garmin Tred XL it comes preloaded with both North and South America Maps. For additional, available, maps there is a link at the bottom of the Garmin Tred XL product page that says “maps”. That will show you what maps can be purchased. Side note: you may need to buy an SD card to fit the additional maps. The Garmin allows for up to a 256gb sd card to be added. Which is PLENTY of space. Hope this helps and congrats on the Gladiator build!
@@triplelockedadventures thank you again for Im in Vancouver Canada so it should come preloaded....I think lol
@ yes yours will come with the North and South America maps as well. If you wanted to cross the oceans you would need to add the additional maps. They have Africa, Europe, Australia, Middle East, and of course North & South America.
Quick and easy
Dude, this video deserves WAAAY more than 32 likes and 553 views. Your GX is what I want mine to be when it grows up. So many good ideas. Mind if I ask what your final height clearance is? I have a roof rack (that I use) and got some legit rock rails. I'm torn about whether or not to get a lift for two reasons. One, I need to be able to park in my garage and two, I only have about 4" of clearance left at factory suspension. A few of the more popular GX channels say don't do a lift, but I want a bumper for my winch (I bought another Apex 12k, had one on a Jeep and loved it) and without a lift I'm worried that the OEM suspension will lose too much clearance, plus I need to delete the factory spoiler chin anyway. It's awful. Anyway, awesome work. Liked, subbed and saved.
Appreciate you! Ill have to measure the height; I just made some adjustments to the suspension so the height changed. With that said last year on my trip to wheel in the Ozarks, I took my wife to Nashville on the way home. We were able to pull into a parking garage with the RTT on top. I was not confident but she guided me in and we actually had plenty of clearance! I was surprised to say the least. I will tell you I can not fit in our garage at home. Not even remotely close! I'd be happy to chat more about the GX, lifts, etc. Shoot me a message on Instagram and we can connect on there!

@@dodgeplow thank you. Stay tuned for lots more to come!
Hey there, nice build. How is the Garmin Tread system mounted? Is that a track system on the dash. Thanks
You are correct…it’s a RAM Mounts track. I have it double sided tape to the dash. It works but the weight of the Garmin is too much. I did this about 4 years ago when there wasn’t any aftermarket options. There are now a few vendors offering both no drill and drill solutions. I ordered some new products coming that I’ll post up a future video on!
I'm now subscribed from AZ so good luck with your channel. The Tread XL can definitely create some blind spots. I'll be watching for new content bc there's lots of things on your build that you can do a deep dive. Take care.
@@mikemitchell9138 appreciate the support!
Nice build! You have a lot of the same mods I have installed on my 2015 GX. Looking forward to see what you do next. I'd love more info on the battery system you rigged up. I also have the Dobinson drawer system and a large fridge. I have no idea how you've managed to fit 205 aH behind the fridge. Also - did you do anything to anchor the drawer system? I installed a Victory 4x4 deck and it's currently just sitting on top unanchored.
I will absolutely do a video on the battery system! It’s for sure a 1 of 1 setup as I made it myself. As you know there’s almost zero room between the back seats and the Dobinsons drawers. Zero of the options out there would fit, so I said let’s just do it ourselves haha. Speaking of which to answer your mounting question: my drawers mounted straight to the points where the third row seats mounted. I believe I had to drill two small holes but it’s been awhile since I installed them. It was all in the instructions with the drawer setup. Only thing I did in addition to the instructions is I put down a lot of sound deadener while I had it all apart. For your setup with the deck you will need to either drill through the deck plate and line up the mounting points or if you’re looking for a modular setup: fabricate some L brackets maybe on the sides and back?
Awesome build!
@@eriksadventurelabthank you! It has been a blast building it and even more so traveling with it.

I talked to a guy who said to not buy a lot of different suspension setups (like king) bc they aren't designed to handle the salt and mag chloride used on Colorado roads, thoughts?
