Outstanding, I love it!

"Plant your feet, take a deep breath" That advice has served me well many times.

@@sapphiremelody4488 Bird is going to be featured on my upcoming album, Hold the Door Open, especially on the title track, which features related themes. Check out the new video below for clips. “For if we love these ladies, they must have golden showers.”
Ayup.
I can’t say that that usage was prevalent when Campion wrote it. But I definitely wouldn’t put it past him.
One of my favorite songs
I love this song!! Are you singing this at a SCA event in this video? The background kinda looks a bit like one
The video was taken at Pennsic 2023.
@ oh cool! It’s a beautiful song, and you sang it beautifully. 😁
@ I can’t take credit, this was Bird the Bard. But they are featured on my new album, Hold the Door Open, which is coming in 2025. (There’s a first listen preview up on my channel I just posted last night.)
This was hilarious oml
Thank you!
This is great, Drake!!
Thank you so much! I’m so pleased people are still enjoying this.
Gods I love this!!!!! You are all so very gifted!
'promosm' 🤘
I always love your passion keep being you
Thank you. That means a lot.
Thank you so much. This is exactly the information i needed!
I'm watching this two years later and I want to respond to one thing you mention in passing, when you talk about writing "Hold the Door Open." I'm not a performer that's up to playing a nine-minute song at a bardic circle. But sometimes, I respond to stuff that happens by singing, even if only to myself. A year ago, a year after you recorded this class, I had to ban somebody from a discord I moderate who was a valued contributor but decided to spew ignorant narratives about immigrants. Made me want to play two songs in specific as a reaction: Woody Guthrie's "Deportees", and yours. (Some of my best friends are immigrants, and I've spent time volunteering with a migrant workers' union, so it hit me pretty hard to hear those words from somebody I previously respected.) The fact that you made "Hold the Door Open" a song others could learn, rather than a story, has had a positive impact on how I can express the values it's about, even if I never sing it for an audience. I'm glad you didn't let yourself second guess that decision.
Oh my goodness. I’m just now seeing this, and I’m so appreciative of you taking the time to share. You just made my day. Thank you.
And also is a chapter book 📖 aka story book 📖 like Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone or chamber of secrets and a studio album 💿 story that’s in the lyrics the same or different from each other because people can say that they are either the same or different from each other in my family they are definitely the same but iamlxgend he said that they are totally 💯 different from each other what’s your honest opinion about this?
Sorry I had missed this for so long. Any time different storytellers interpret a given story the results will be different no matter how much they strive to be faithful. And a book and a set of song lyrics are orders of magnitude different in the amount of detail that can be captured.
Music 🎼 🎶 🎵 question 🙋♂️ why every song has to start from beginning to end aka start to finish is it because of song structure aka the arrangement or is it because of the story that’s in the song structure aka lyrics?
Hi! Sorry not to have responded sooner, I didn’t get a notification that there were new comments. I’m pondering your question, and I’m not 100% sure I’m following you. Is this about my advice about working on whatever part of the story is appealing to you if you’re stuck in your lyric writing? Because technically you can start anywhere. I don’t remember whether I mentioned it in this online class, but one song a wrote a few years ago, “I Must Be Silent,” I actually don’t start at the beginning. I start in medias res, after Thomas has been in Elfland for a while…then go back to the start of the story in the second verse. It’s not easy to do in a song form, because your goal is, presumably, never to confuse the audience in real time. But in that song, and again in “Hold the Door Open”, I managed to introduce flashbacks as a device in a slightly longer song, and it worked well in both cases. Please let me know if that was helpful or not.

Absolutely!
Nice.
Thanks!
This is just fabulous! One of the best Zoom performances I have seen, and absolutely up there with professional offerings. I can only imagine the work that went into it. Thank you all for carrying this off with such fun and lightness! DID YOU KNOW that Lin Manuel Miranda stumbled across an SCA event (Raglan Faire at Raglan Castle) while filming in Wales, and posted about it on his media? He seemed to really like it... :)
Thank you! And yes, I saw that tweet. He seems like such a lovely guy.
Fabulous! Just wait until you all show up on Lin Manuel Miranda’s socials!
That would be awesome. (And now I *REALLY* wish I hadn’t misspelled his name in the credits.)
Now THAT'S how throw down the gauntlet! See y'all on the Field!
Thanks. Looking forward to it!
All hail the Word-crafters who created this! (and I WAS watching in the Zoom when it happened, and I chortled merrily, never dreaming I was witnessing Bardic History Going Down)
Thank you.
this is BRILLIANT
