Im surprised Soul was more discs than Luca. My favorite part of the physical movies was the bonus discs! I love the random trivia and bloopers.

Pretty interesting. For years and years we were stubborn and continued to buy physical copies of movies. I don’t even remember the final purchase, but it has been a few years. The collection is still in the house. Sometimes the kids still watch them for the novelty. We just met someone from Indonesia! He told us to spend a long time there if we can make it out for a trip. Hope we can within this next year!

For those who burn movies on dvd-r discs I suspect they are making them on the cheap now... Maybe because they don't sell like they used to, but I duscivered 2 burned discs that have this rot and they are less than a year old

I came here because lately I discovered that 2 dvd - r discs that are less than 1 year old seem to have this disc rot! At first I thought some harsh chemical had been spilled on them because it looks like a big blotch and when the disc is held up to the light that area is completely transparent! You can see that the data is just GONE in the affected area.. This worries me because I'm a collector of rare movies and I like to have physical copies because they might disappear altogether.. So far I haven't had disc rot on any store bought factory pressed discs yet... That would drive me crazy because some of my dvds go for over 100 bucks on ebay!

I'm thinking maybe it's how you are storing your discs. I have been collecting dvds for decades, and probably own a thousand discs.. I have never had this experience of disc rot EVER.. Im sure this is a very rare occurrence and yet you have dozens of rotted discs..

this is how VHS looks like on a 4K TV. recorded directly from my phone, no extra setting or editing implemented. i find it surprising that it can look this good on 4K TV. it looks good on CRT, but not so bad on UHD TV. but the VHS and VCR needs to be in absolute best condition to look like this. so overall, i still prefer VCD. i already have the VCD copy, so i am selling this VHS tape of 101 Dalmatians, and just need to upload this as a proof that the tape is still working so that i can list it with proper price.

On my windows 11 i have no chance to play the movie from the dvd?

So now I have this dvd and I have a Windows 11 pc, even if i install InterActual Player theres no chance to see the menu, the scenes and the entire movie?

I inserted the older Inova Digimedia VCDs (MovieLine and Dutamitra) into my DBPower DVD player and they were VCD 1.1 too.

I was searching with the “wrong” title, e.g. I typed “Ti Fu Niang-Niang” (which is correct based on my Indonesian VCD copy), but it should be “Di Fu Niang-Niang” (similar pronunciation, different spelling-I think it’s like the case of Mao Tse Tung and Mao Zedong in Indonesian. In many more extreme cases, both the spelling and pronunciation will be different, leaving only “slight” similarities phonetically: e.g. Peh Tin Yo is actiually Bai Suzhen the White Snake; “Peh” is pronounced almost similar to “Bai” while “Tin Yo” and “Suzhen” are totally different and I don’t know why they use different name. Well my DBPower portable DVD player is also able to detect which VCD version it is playing, when it plays VCD 2.0 the PBC On/Off mode appears on screen after the VCD 2.0 text appears (the PBC mode does not show up on screen on VCD 1.1). Samsung DVD players also show Menu Off when VCD 2.0 is detected.

I think I remember some DVD Player could run VCD in only certain region. Yes some region has a DVD Player but didn't support VCD. I remember too some VCD 1.1 always do PBC Off while VCD 2.0 always do PBC On PBC is Play Back Control, so it's like repeat but it never be stopped except you press stop button or set PBC Off And some VCD has PBC Menu, so it will run to prompt PBC Menu (if they had one), PBC Menu just like Title Menu or Root Menu from DVD but it only could do with number control and not like navigation DVD menu.

I remember I got kate and leopold on Amazon UK and it wouldn't work. There was no scratches or nothing on it. But I think it was disc rot.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the format. I have never encountered a tape in my life because of which I would have to manually clean the head. These tapes with Cinema Club label were never issued in my country. Unfortunately, VHS is a cumbersome format and it's difficult to call it "universal" because not all tapes are equal. Some are worn out, some are dirty, and others are moldy. My VCR unit has zero problems playing blank VHS tapes used for recording or the tapes from late 1990s/early 2000s, but it doesn't like the very old stuff: heavy tapes from the late 1980s, but I don't have a lot of these in my collection. Then again, I use my VCR very sparingly because I know that when it gives up, it's the end for me. lol I tend to stick to DVDs as the core of my collection.
