    How much should something like this cost to repair at a shop?

    • @MustangMowers
      @MustangMowers 3 месяца назад

      It really depends on the shop labor rate. Our shop charges $90/hour and I'm told that's cheap. You can bet on a solid 2 hours on this if you do both sides and don't run into any issues.

      You have to pull the shroud off and remove the intake to get to one, you may as well do both at the same time so you don't have to tear into again down the road. It's personal preference really, but if it were my machine, I would go ahead and do both.

      At the end of the day, as long as you're close I think it will be fine. To quote Taryl "it's not a spaceship, it's a lawn mower." Nothing has to be exact. When you get the valve lashing set right, tighten the retainers down enough they don't come loose. But, if you do the way I showed in the video, the lashing doesn't change so you don't have to reset them.

I recently replaced both head gaskets that were failing on Kohler's V-twin SV725 (24hp) Courage engine powering my Husqvarna riding mower. 9-year-old mower (looks like new) only 210 hours, but recently noticed hiss sound @ shut-down (tell-tale sign of failing head gaskets). Before I attempted repair myself, I watched a couple RUclips videos on this...but Mustang Mowers video on this repair is the only one you need to watch and it's the BEST! Clear, on-point, concise and super-informative. Great job and thanks for all the intel.

Said I didn’t feel I should have to buy parts again for such crappy gaskets. They sent me a set of the new style gaskets , no charge. These gaskets with a flame ring around the cylinder hole should last the life of the engine.

    • @MustangMowers
      @MustangMowers Год назад

      Well, there are a couple of different ways you can do it. You can take the time to get the cylinder on TDC on the compression stroke and set both valves. Or you can do what it do and slond the engine by hand and watch for one of the two valves to open all the way. With it all the way open, you can set the one that is still closed. Then spin the engine until the one you just set opens all the way up and then set the other one.

      We use a gasket scraper to clean off all the mating surface. If you have any stubborn spots, you can use something a little more abrasive, but, be careful not to take off to much of the surface. Then right before I put RTV on, I use a rag and some solvent (carb cleaner, brake parts cleaner, etc) and make sure all the oils and stuff are removed from the gasket surface.

      @@edthompson1727 There are a lot of reasons for it to shut off when you kick the PTO on. It sounds like you just have a leaky valve cover. Just like in the video, if you leave small problems long enough, they will become big problems. Valve covers are easy to reseal. Just get some high temp RTV and pull the valve cover off (should be 4 bolts) clean the mating surface real good, apply the RTV, let it tack up (about 10 minutes) then put the valve cover back on.

Air filter is clean. Gas was in there all winter, but i ran it for 5 minutes 2 weeks ago and it seemed fine. Oil needs to be replaced badly as thats something ive neglected. i fear its a head gasket. do you have any ideas?

    • @MustangMowers
      @MustangMowers Год назад

      If you can hear air hissing out by the spark plug, that's pretty tell tale that the head gasket is bad or something much more sinister has happened. I would check compression on both cylinders to confirm that. If the fuel that was in it all winter has any ethanol in it, that could be part of your problem as well. Ethanol is bad stuff and does not do well sitting for any length of time. Hope this helps.
