Start the Day with Us: Abby the Poodle’s Morning Routine
Gorgeous pup.....looks a lot like my Beau....having that black boy was my first poodle experience....which quickly led to a second a red/apricot female the next year.....now we have three of them....best dogs ever.
I am truely fighting the urge to get more. 😂😂😂 but I live in an apartment so it takes some effort and planning for 1 large dog… much less 17 😅
I'm a dog groomer, and a lot of my clients are goldendoodles, and thankfully, I have never seen any aggression from any of them towards other dogs.
I’ve met a lot of wonderful doodles and I’m glad you’ve been having good experiences with them
You are absolutely gorgeous. Wow. I hope your baby is doing well.
Thank you so much! 😊 Abby is doing phenomenal
You are so very welcome!!😊😊 And I am glad she is well! I am getting a standard poodle in February. Mama is 5 weeks pregnant right now. I am having trouble deciding between a male or female. Is there anything about having a female standard that sticks out to you? Thank you so much!
@ oh my how exciting! I personally like females more because they are a little easier to house break, are generally friendly with all dogs if socialized well, but they seem to be a little more independent. Males are usually bigger, seem to be a little more affectionate, more goofy and playful, but if you don’t neuter them you’ll have to work through those behavioral challenges that can come with having an intact male (urine marking, maybe some displays of dominance with other male dogs) So based on those reasons, I would opt to get a female or neuter my male dogs pretty early so I don’t have to work through the crazy teenage boy-dog phase. it’s totally up to what you prefer!
Thank you so much for this!!! I value your expertise! If I were to go with a male I did plan on having him fixed. But I do love the thought of easier house breaking of the female. A lot. Thank you so much again. I am going to subscribe to your channel now.

Such a nice video :) Do you have any tips on how to train a dog to remain calm when seing other dogs on a walk? Ellie likes to jump and stare and go a bit crazy on the leash when she sees other dogs (even though she walks good in other situations). Do you have a video on this topic already maybe?

So grateful for more poodle videos! It seems that there aren't many online despite them being a rather popular breed!
Yay! I’m glad you are enjoying it! I actually see very few poodles and soooo many doodles!
I bet it's because most poodle owners spend all of their time grooming their poodles and admiring them. I spend an hour line combing my poodle every single day. He is also bathed and blow-dried every week which takes about 3 hours. Every 2 weeks I do a touchup on his grooming, he is in the continental clip so I like to keep him looking his best! I don't think I will ever get a poodle after him, they are amazing dogs but they take a lot of time and energy. I could cut Carlito's hair shorter but I love the continental and I always get compliments.
@@mobstercrow7515 wow you do spend a lot of time on your pups grooming! I could see that being a huge barrier for ownership especially if you don’t have any grooming skills. I personally just keep her in a short summer clip all year round because I’m a lil lazy 😅
@@michimoo92 I love my pups hair so much. He's a service dog so running my fingers through his hair really helps me out. I couldn't imagine keeping his hair short, I must pet the floof! It's a lot of work but it's worth it to have a pet lamb dog! I actually wanted to get another pitbull to become my nest service dog since my prior service dogs were pittie mixes, but the doggo I wanted was adopted. I ended up buying a poodle from a breeder and the father of the litter is a service dog also! Thanks to his good genetics he is excelling in his training. Genetics play a huge role in dogs. I got very lucky with him because I chose him when he was a week old which means I didn't do a temperament test.. He was the runt of the litter, half the size of the females in the litter. I really wanted him because I knew I could help him catch up with his siblings and provide the care he needs. Now he is bigger than all of his siblings, he's only 6 months old and he is 24 inches tall! I'm still in touch with the breeder and the puppy parents of his siblings, he turned out to be the best dog of the litter, mostly due to my training experience. I was planning on going to college during fall of 2025 but since his training is going so well, I'm going in January 2025 instead! He's finished puppy and intermediate classes and he has been on a few public outings in non pet friendly stores. He is doing great! I still wish I could get another pittie though, I love their squishy faces and the weird noises they make when they are excited. I will make sure my next service dog is a pittie though! I love them so much!
Very interesting and insightful! :) Thanks for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!

@@Panischa you are very welcome! Thank you for the video idea!
You guys are so cute, I love how you take care of Aby💕 Do you brush her teeth sometimes?
Thank you! I don’t 😢 but I think I’m going to start adding that to our routine because I’m noticing way more build up on her teeth
This was so interesting! Do you have any tips on how to get your dog to be that cooperative when cleaning their ears / plucking ear hair? Ellie hates it and I tried to train it with a lot of treats etc. so that I can touch her ears freely now, but as soon as I get any tool (a whipe or cloth eg) near her ear she's gone X'D
Sounds like you’ve already started the process! So you can build on that now. Keep your ear cleaning tools somewhere and everytime you pick it up, and she comes to you or is near you give her lots of treats. Soon she will probably start running over happily when you have the tools in your hand. Then after a few weeks depending how how much she hates it. Start touching her ear with the tool, and reward that. Move forward super slowly and you should be able to make progress over time!
@@michimoo92 thank you so much! I'll try that :) You're tips and videos are super helpful. Have a lovely day!
@@Panischa Thanks for watching! I just made this video showing exactly how I went through the process ruclips.net/video/L6qj_wC1wNM/видео.html if you want to check it out. I hope it helps!

Poodles are the best! Thank you for the video! How young can you start teaching the dog this trick?
Poodles really are! Start as soon as you can. 8 weeks is good to start getting them used to following a treat and moving through the different positions sit/down/stand. So they are comfortable with following your hand and treat.
Love the video can’t wait for structure walks video
I haven’t forgotten! It’s coming!
Do you structure walk her in the house ever
When I first started teaching her yes! when she was a baby she was always on leash and we practiced everything in the house to start. @chriscandoros I have the leisure walk/structured walk/heel video coming out tomorrow!
I just got a 10 week old black standard poodle I love watching you and Abby’s videos. So helpful!
Yay! So exciting!!! Cherish it cause she grew up soooo fast!
Do you use your remote
How often do you use the remote
@@chrisvandoros1805 very very rarely. I use it as an emergency recall if she is in her prey drive chasing something and she isn’t responding to my verbal recall. And most of the times a quick vibration is all it takes now a days to snap her out of the chase and come back to me. I can’t remember the last time I used the stimulation button on the remote
@@michimoo92she really well behaved you do a tone of training
@@chrisvandoros1805 thank you! Yes I think of every interaction with her as a training opportunity so we really train every day.
@@michimoo92love to see more
Love how you do obedience
How do you decide if you want to a structure walk or not
Hi! Thanks for the comments! I have to look at the video again to tell exactly what “type” of walk it was. Generally speaking. When we first get out on a walk it’s a leisure or casual walk where she can sniff around and use the bathroom. Only rule is she isn’t allowed to pull me or we stop walking until she comes back to my side, sits, and waits to be released to continue our walk. After 15 mins or so , she has sniffed around, let some excitement out. We can transition to a structured walk practice where the rules are she stays by my side at my pace of walk and isn’t allowed to wander off and sniff or use the bathroom. In the beginning I would only do the structured walk practice for 5-15 min intervals. Then I would let her go back to sniffing around. Now a days. We start with the casual walk but I can do a full 30 min structured walk at a brisk pace for actual exercise.
I hope that makes sense! I’m working on a video that explains all of this for you. Thank you for watching and being patient!
@@michimoo92can you make a structure walk like 30 minutes video
@@michimoo92can you make one like that
So so respectful
Now she's going to be staring at you all the time.
Most pitbull mix owners in SF are pretty dumb to control their breed! Be careful!
Yehhhh…. It’s so interesting how the specific breeds attract different types of owners. I see alot of pit bulls and Malinois in the shelters cause many people especially down here, like the idea of bad ass looking dogs but they are unable, for whatever reasons, to provide bad ass level structure and training. And unfortunately the dogs suffer
She’s so cute 🥰 poodles know how cute they are that’s why they know how to use it 😂
And you know so much about obeint
@@chrisvandoros1805 I’ve had dogs my whole life. Trained sea lions for a summer internship. Then got my dog training certification from animal behavior college. I don’t know everything by any means and every dog is different. Abby does not know “heel” but she knows how to not pull and walk close when we are on our structured walks. I personally have no experience in competitive obedience training, all my experience is in basic lifestyle behaviors that help dogs live their best happiest lives with their humans
Indeed...too many knuckle-head owners.
