    Hopefully a easy question. If you match a small house (600 sq ft, 4800 cu ft) which needs 75 CFM( at 1 ACH) with a small furnace 40,000(32,000) BTU which on low speed only goes down to approx. 750 CFM. What am I missing as the solution?

      @@RichardSwayze-s4i I don't understand the question. I assume you mean the house needs 750 cfm, there's no way it only needs 75 cfm. Your furnace is going to need to have a minimum of about 750 cfm any time it's running anyway depending on what the max temp rise is. You mentioned ACH, are you talking about bringing in 75 cfm for outside air?

    Do you think that using only 6 inch round duct is an acceptable practice? Or do you think it causes some rooms to have too much or too little airflow. Thanks

      @@masonanderson4859 no. There may be some cases where it all just happens to work out like that, and even then you would almost certainly need a balancing damper on every or almost every outlet. And even though this is recommended by ACCA, it's impractical for most residential homes. The best way to try and balance a duct system in residential during design is to size your registers and ducts differently based on necessary cfm. But, every situation is different, and some climates may be more likely than others to have closer to equal loads. Or, if it's particularly easy to just make sure every register needs the exact same cfm it may work out. But I've never done a design that didn't have some 5", some 6", and some 7". So at least 3 different sized ducts and at least 2 different sizes of registers.

      @Tmechanically Thanks. I've worked at 2 companies in MN and they only use 6 inch round for supplies. I am building my own house soon, and plan to size the individual runs properly

    Awesome information! These calculations are not only easier than the Ductulators but also spot on. I did a room by room CoolCalc evaluation of my house for a good size addition/renovation and the BTU - CFM formula was 6 cfm differnet than the Man J #! I heard you mention in this or another of your videos that these docs/spreadsheets are available in Google Classroom. Is there a link somewhere? Thanks again!

      I'm coming back. I finally finished the revised guide yesterday. I was really hoping to have it done before Christmas, but that didn't work out. Hopefully today, if not by the end of the weekend, I should have the guide available abd at l east a short announcement video up. I'm really hoping to put out something every week. It might nit be a video everytime, but we will see. I'm still working it out a little. But watch out for something by this weekend.

    Chris, this is a great tutorial on duct sizing. I have done many manual D calculations as well. I agree, this method is much simpler, and I wish I would have come across it a long time ago. Especially when comparing it to one of my manual D calculations, it is right there with it. I think a duct table as you described at the end of the video would be a great tool and it would be a great resource in the book. Let me know when the book is available, I would be glad to purchase it. Also, if you have anything to add on reducing the supply trunk duct after branch takeoffs. Thank you for taking the time to put these videos together.

      Thanks for the nice words. I've not been spending as much time on the teaching side of things the last couple years, but I've been working on getting all these resources together in one place.     in short shielding wire, is to prevent Induction of a current from and external source, Trane uses some 5 volt DC circuits, when installed near over head power lines the magnetic fields can induce a in correct voltage, micro and radio wave can do the same. i hope you get pair well your a excellent trainer.

    i am 20 minutes in, i only do residential, wanted to chime in, most zone controls can handle a call for heating and cooling at the same time, the logic built in satisfices the call for heating first then cooling, and this happens in 2 floors, up stairs is warm and mom living on the fist floor wants heat. in residential we don't call them dump zones we call them constant air flow registers, to lower the by pass need or over all pressure on a variable speed motor pocking a register near a front door foyer, or kitchen dinning room with slider/ French door, or even a utility room is a grate place to have supply leads that blow no matter which zone calls so long as there not near a thermostat or zone controller. love you video's recommend them please keep them coming.

    for cooling I like to look at it as the ceiling is another source of heat so washing cold air to cool it and carry the hotter air away as the colder air falls will create a more comfortable room.

Mostly new installs here and there. I could cover BBC said walk ins and controls comfortably with some prep but refrigerated cases with EPR valves and such is outside of my realm, as an example.
