    First one showed missing parts. Second one was complete. It's a working bench grinder ruclips.net/user/postUgkxxC8HPnl24fu0XhMU_nbmWNEUoK1RMHXk . One thing I like alot is that it's surprisingly quiet. I don't feel like I'm sacrificing any rpms or power for the quietness either. All in all it's a very nice machine. No vibration whatsoever.

    Great idea - looks solid. And you can cut any thickness of shim you need with pretty basic tools. I want to mount a round stock holder to do a simple lathe grind.

    I think it’s a good idea if you don’t have the right grinder to do what you need to get done. I’m looking for the support arms that bolts on the inside of the grinder cover’s, where can I get them from? I live in Michigan.

    Looks like it does a good job if you don’t have the right machine to do that with. Where can I find the support arms that bolt to the inside of the grinding stone covers?

    make a block cut it out to hold tool at a angle 15°will do use set screws to hold..rough hand grind an bech grinder..get piece of stock diameter you want turn shank so fits chuck drill press..go lowest rpm..and use lapping compound on your bar stock..start up use one hand hold block..other work spindle up and down check in a few minutes reapeate till satisfied..plus side when dull can rehone to sharpen

    In Principal your idea is good. But it's become hazardous now due to the fact of when your wheel reduces it's diameter, a bigger gap will happen between the grinding wheel and the rest plate, so if any object where to wedge itself between this gap, specially if you're holding it, well...I'll leave that thought with you guys for a moment. If I were you, I'd return the machine to its original specification.

  • @incubatork
    @incubatork 4 года назад

    Try honing backwards because any slight tilt forward as the stone bites, the cutting edge ends up getting slightly rounded, if done backwards the cutting edge lifts and is not touched by the stone.

      Is it running clockwise or is it just the camera? Since the chips are building at the top of the tool I think it's correct.

    • @Dubbelehalvezool
      @Dubbelehalvezool 6 лет назад

      Yeah you're right, I saw it wrong..but I do think his actual sharpening technique is wrong, when you sharpen it you need to move away from the cutting end, not towards it. He's not sharpening it, he's blunting it. Might still work tho, if you're lucky. And if you try enough times, you'll probably get lucky, for a radius you don't need it to be that precise most of the time anyway.

    • @joandar1
      @joandar1 6 лет назад

      Dubbelehalvezool, What you say of the sharpening technique I tend to agree with you. If I had the same stone and task I think that the tool would be fastened in a vice and then stroke the stone up from the bottom of the cutting tool edge. This should make things quicker and easier to obtain that fine edge desired. John.

    A simple but very effective improvement, the extra working area is really worthwhile. I've shamelessly copied your idea, with two small variations. 1. Rather than fixing the extended tool rest with holes, I've used slots, that way, as the wheel gets smaller, it's simple to move the tool rest forward minimising the gap between the wheel and the tool rest. 2. I milled shallow vee grooves into the tool rest surface giving the perfect drill grinding angle. Thanks again for the idea.

      I have a six inch grinder like this purchased from Menards for about $25 in the mid 1980s it still works fine. Had to replace the power switch with a $2 toggle switch 10 years ago because the original plastic switch was smashed in a move still runs fine.

      Buy a 7 inch lathe from Grizzly or Harbor Freight and put it on your credit card. Cut back on eating out for a few months and pay off the lathe and you have a decent Sieg starter lathe.

    I like the mod but from what I've read and saw on other channels,You should only use the rest for your hands not for the steel..Or you would never be able to get all the correct angle you need :) but i would defiantly do the mod even just for a rest for my hands,But like everyone Say's there is no wrong way or right way to do this,It's down to personal preference and what works for you.
