New Mexico Adventure Riding: Mount Taylor attempt 2
Getting our directions down a bit better, we finally made it closer to Mount Taylor. This Section 6 of the BDR is quickly becoming a favorite due to it's proximity to the house. Attempt 3 had it's own fun issues that will come shortly in that, I'm very grateful for safety gear and I now swear by the Leatt neck brace. Hopefully you enjoy the ride!

Got the chance to head up to the San Isabel enduro to volunteer for whatever I could do to help out. Didn't know this would be Jud's last year to run the event so I was happy I made it down. Jud is a super awesome guy and I will look for any future events he may have because they are expertly run. The last half of the video is just riders as they came through the check out for check 10. New Mexico Adventure Riding: Mount Taylor attempt 1 (Understanding NM MUD!)

Met up with Aaron who I rode with on the Dome Road ride. The goal set out was Mount Taylor. However, as sometimes adv rides go, the day is all about the journey and not always about the destination :D. Found a great easy loop though in this process where you can see some amazing things by going Cabazon Rd, to Pipeline, to (that road that goes left after that one cattle guard that gets you to SR...

Have wanted to do this loop since bringing the bikes to New Mexico, it did not disappoint. Luckily I had a guide for the day as Matt has been all around this area and figured why not follow a 300 2stroke! I can honestly say that this helped me get some confidence in the sand even if it wasn't the silty stuff it can be. Will definitely be heading back as this was a great quick ride to get to!

Final day of the Las Vegas ADV trip to open the year of riding. This was such a great final day of riding with just enough challenge to make me squirm a bit. Look forward to going back when the temps drop again. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the New Mexico playground I get to live in. Looking forward to getting out and exploring what all NM has to offer! Day 2 of the super bowl Vegas vacation had us riding around logandale trail. This is kinda a pick you adventure place that you can make a loop out of if you choose the correct turning points... we didn't do that. We kinda got lost till around 2pm and then got hungry and made our way back. 100% would love to go here and adventure again!

It's going to take Colorado awhile to not have that surprise ice so when Lonnie said, "how bout Vegas riding?" Steve and I said yes plz!! So we spent out super bowl experience mostly in the desert :D. Day 1 of riding was watching planes, dodging rocks, and shaking off the winter snow for a little brapp-therapy.

Nate, Scott, Steve, and myself set out on a beautiful day with such potential. Turns out the beautiful day stayed true, however as the day went on, we lost potential :D. Such a fun 37 miles and I would recommend it highly. We went North to South... IMO, South to North is a bit easier.

Hat's off to the Barlow's for putting on one amazingly organized event. This was my first time getting to help out with an enduro for the Rocky Mountain Enduro Circuit. I only got to mark test 1 cause that salt road hill forced a white flag! But I will be back as the country side is just beautiful. I did it on my XR650 after putting a new set of Dunlop D606 tires felt really good the road was in decent shape was pretty fun ride.
Lol that little bitty descend with such a joke I can't believe you were really sweating bullets over that you should write some of the stuff in the Black hills of South Dakota that will really make the pucker Factor grow
I had ridden down BBP a couple times on my honda 250 dual sport, but In late Sept 2021 i was back doing the Alpine Loop and got stuck in Telluride with darkness and a gnarly storm blowing in. I was riding solo, camped in Silverton. It was a random Tuesday, like 630 pm and the only way id beat the storm and darkness was riding black bear the wrong way. I figured thare wouldnt be anyone on the trail that late on a weekday, so i went for it. Sure enough, didnt pass a single vehicle the whole time. It was absolutely fantastic riding it in reverse, up the steps. Made record time, topped the pass and there was yellow clouds swirling above me. Made it back to the camper in Silverton w a little light left. Fun times
i want to join you if you and make the full loop back to Rio Rancho if you go again this fall, I'm riding a T-660 like your friend in the video
Rookies...
Tremendos patanes...
There is like a crazy amount of slot canyons down there in that area.
Can't wait till I can get back out and explore more!
I so want to do this but it also scares the crap out of me!
just do the dumb things with friends and everything seems to work out ok :D. You got this!
That was great
Would love to see a talented trials rider go that route.
They would probably be itching to go slightly off trail cause there would be some great courses you could setup on that pass.
A little more erosion on those steps at the 12:05 -12:15 part of video and it will be pretty much impassable it looks like, especially for 4-wheelers.
Aye, very lucky to have been able to go when it just got cleared and wasn't to bad with traffic... and while the road is still there. So many slides recently :-/
Back in the 60s we rode our dirt bikes up to the top and turned around and came back down this was before all the stupidity that caused the road to be made one way down I’m surprised that it’s still open at all
That climb I can only image would be amazing!
Sorry to hear about the injuries and hope you’re well on your way back to riding shape soon!! I have yet to ride all of Section 6….sadly! I’ve ridden all around Cabizon Peak several times, and probably 20-30 miles at least, toward Grants, but just always ran out of time as well. Still need to finish Section 7 also, since I only made it to Abiquiu last time. We truly are lucky to have such great riding here in New Mexico!
That is a fact! Just had the follow up and I was told "let pain be your guide" so i'm suiting up this evening to take her for a shakedown ride and see what I need to fix :D.
Hope you mend fast !
Thanks much!

No idea how people can ride terrain like that sitting down.
I'll speak for myself on this one: Laziness :)
Used to go up Black Bear in the 80s
They still reverse it a few days per year so you can do that. I suppose it might be crowded and slow-going though.
I imagine it was far less groomed back then!
@@youtubeaccount9058 Now that would be something to put on the calendar!

Not very much standing on this ADV ride. :-)
I was doing a review on the sheepskin seat cover ;D
I love that area!! Haven't had to deal with all that mud though, so I guess I'm one of those fair-weather riders 🤔🤫 Looking forward to seeing Attempt #2!
Well, tbf, you're saving yourself some extra sore the next few days :D. Attempted 2 was far less muddy and holy crap some embedded jagged rocks!
@@bigjoeadvt7 I usually ride alone, so I have to be choosy with my riding days out there. There's a stagecoach stop ruins between Cabizon Peak and Mt Taylor that I want to find, and hopefully I'll run across that when I finally do a full NMBDR Section 6 ride, instead of the bits and pieces of it that I've done so far.
FYI.....your Mt Taylor Attempt 1 video is set for "made for kids" so the comments option is not on. Just thought I'd mention it in case that was unintentional.
omg... thank you so much for letting me know! I went through and had others that also not marked for kids (mainly the ones where I swear, alot)
@@bigjoeadvt7 glad to help!!
Great looking route. Have a shareable GPX file???
Unfortunately I didn't hit track on my Garmin and missed getting this gpx.
@@bigjoeadvt7 were you able to ride it all the way to Cochiti or is it still closed at Pueblo land? Just trying to plan a route.
@@Jotni so, there was a gate where we turned around and could see Cochiti. The gate was open when we got there, but we did not proceed through out of caution that the gate wasn't suppose to be open. It would be great ride to do all the way through it seems!
Always follow your own line. Never follow someone just because they are in front.
All your smaller bike riders left you two! lol. Awesome video
Awesome ride but think I’ll stick with my Beta 300!
Having also taken a T7 over Black Bear pass (and having ridden motorcycles since I was 14 and the past 10 years in Colorado) this is an accurate take on Black Bear and the difficulty / considerations. I also walked mine down at the Steppes and I consider myself an above average offroad rider in good physical condition. You'll always get people in the comments that say "well I rode a liter adventure over Black Bear Pass fully loaded and it was easy". Congratulations. But most riders aren't capable of that and that gives a false sense of security to those wanting to try but really shouldn't and once there have no other choice but to try to continue. That leads to injuries, bike damage, and long lines backing up behind you. The Steppes are steeper than they appear on just about every video, often covered in slick rock dust, and a huge dropoff on an outside corner that approaches incredibly fast if you're not on top of your braking. The reward of this trail is amazing, but don't underestimate it.
@@darinanderson2261 well said sir, been riding since I was 6 and all things considered, my pucker was factored.

good group! let us know when the next ride is! i would like to join.
Found a good group on the FB in "NM Dual Sport" which is where I found this ride and will be keeping an eye out there for more. After I ride around NM more the idea has crossed my mind to put together tracks in South CO/North NM for a Rally.
Black bear is a hwy compared to what it was 10 years ago. There are travelcompanies that take you down black bear in the back of pickups.
A: I'm thankful that it was easier cause it was a bit of a challenge at least for me :D. B: would scare TS outta me letting someone else have all the control down this pass lol.
Thanks for posting, great video!
Thanks for taking the time to watch!

This was super cool. New Mexico is so underrated, I'd move there tomorrow if I could hahaha. SO many awesome rides out there, don't skip out on some of the cool "overland" routes that show up on the internet, like Mogollon to Magdalena, the east side of the Manzano Mountains, Chloride Creek, NM152/Emory Pass, Timber Mountain, Organ Mountains/Desert Peaks Nat'l Monument, the Valles Caldera or the GDMBR route from Chama to Del Norte!
Just rode through Valles Caldera and Dome Road this past weekend. There were many more wow's had. Now thanks to you, my list has grown!
I want go back visit new Mexico now. Raised there as little kid. Just had the Briggs 5hp. Mini bike for learning lol now own T7
Best bike right there ;D! I can't wait till Jan when I would be normally shoveling snow and come next year, ride!
That area is perfect for training in the sand, although most of this ride would be way too sketchy for me to try on my GS (emphasis on ME and not GS).
It's why there's rule #1 :D Do dumb things with friends! I can pick T up 3 times solo before my fun meter goes to null.
Brilliant recording quality, well done. I went down those steps on a 17 inch wheeled 690 SMCR fully loaded with 50+ lbs of luggage.and watching you I was puckering up just remembering it!
oh man! Fully loaded sounds like an effing nightmare lol. Glad everyone bounced their way down :D.
the problem is people go way to slow....this is very easy if you know how to ride. let the suspension work and have confidence
Ya, root cause is confidence really.
Went down that 2nd climb in my buddy's Jeep. That's a rough stretch and of course the camera never does it justice!
It's crazy how nothing can capture the holy shit-ness. My new crashbars thought it was steep!
Great videos you have. I’m hoping to ride the COBDR next year on my T7. What tires you running on your T700? Thanks!
Thanks! During the BDR i had the TKC80s front and rear. However i think i've found a pair i like more in the D606 and D908 combo. GL and Have all the fun on your trip! The alpine loop area is just amazing.
That drone was amazing, Nice post 🌟 🌟 🌟
Thanks! There was a real pucker factor with that flight. First time sending it where if it failed, I wasn't going to go get it :D.
Nice work ‼ 🤘🏻 🌟 🤘
We went thru there last year on the dirt bikes. Some poor soul had his 4-Runner stuck right there at that 2:00 minute mark. He was hanging precariously. (he wasn't there when we first went around) he was winched and strapped down to not roll over. When we came back, they had returned w/ friends, vehicles and a wrecker to get him back. That had to be $$$
Ya, at least with a bike you can bail, I would have shat myself in a vehicle and in that situation, not only for the roll but the cost to get it out!
You should've shown the Tomichi cemetery. One headstone reads "killed by explosion". You also passed right by a mineshaft you can venture into safely.
Well, this just means I gotta go back! Notes made in the planner!
