Good one bro
Titanic it’s not based on a true story. It’s based on a real event in history but the story is fictional.
1:45 Truly a "my brain is a pancake" moment
2:30 into the video an you're still talking slow and trying to put across the idea that you actually have something to say....without actually getting to any point. Maybe this is the problem with your writing. I've paused it. Not continuing. *Anyone interested in watching this: watch at 1.75 speed. You might actually finish thevideo.*
amen bruh he aint saying anything
whole thing he said was be consistent
half of the video you are just @%%@^Q^Q^. please come to the point asap. thank you.
I'm a Rocky. i will finish my screenplay ❤
I hope many other people find your channel
Along with this video.... I'd suggest THE WAR OF ART by Pressfield - great book on overcoming what he calls "resistance" to complete your script. ATOMIC HABITS - another great book applicable to writers and I applied it to my writing doing 'micro drafts' - 30 to 50 of them - rather than the big rewrites I did previously.
Enjoyed the video! SPOILERS: Rocky actually lost the fight in the first Rocky - but he did 'go the distance' which was his goal. Was in the sequels where he became a champ.
Yeah, I don't think he watched it 🙂

Just learning about dialogue and screenplay and this was really useful
When anyone starts a sentence with, "What if I told you." Consider me gone.
"Creative block is basically the same as an insomnia disorder" holy crap. You did it. I think I know how to fix this now.
Thanks for the help from kerala❤❤❤
Dude, you’re such an inspiration! Keep making videos, you’re the only one on RUclips who understand - what is like to be a screenwriter!
Hey, thank you for this insight, in filmschool I was always praised for dialogue, but you know after years you feel a bit worn out and having this perspective makes me think about dialogue as action and... Just inspired to get back into it. 💜
Very good advice, thank you!
Is your sister Abbie Emmons cause you guys talk exactly the same way, same inflections and everything, in your writing vids. I kid, I enjoyed this, thanks.
Finally, I understand what subtext is. Thanks for your sharing. I love it very much
Been binging your vids all day thinking you had hundreds of thousands of subs then i look and see you only have 1.2k that’s insane your vids are so helpful best I’ve ever watched 😊
The trick to dialogue is to have a personality yourself. If you don't have one, you're not going to write very good dialogue. A sense of humor is a must. Get one. Comedy should be dramatic, and drama should be comedic. If you write with an attitude, the dialogue is never a huge issue.
Dude this is a really great video, thanks!!!!
The hardest part of writing is writing… everyone talks about it, or thinks about it, rather than just do it.
Two jackals fighting over a bone. Good writing gets you wondering about what the bone really is. Great writing introduces you to the third jackal, who's arguing why his friend shouldn't be fighting over it. Brilliant writing gets you wondering why that third jackal would argue that.
Your advice is very harmful and damaging I can't even call it advice... Writing without outlining is like making a new meal without a recipe, or drawing without a sketch - you need to know the structure beforehand,a to-do list. Know exactly where anything goes, which scenes or plot beats happen If you didn't know this you can watch LocalScriptMan's vids, they helped me a ton. But you probably already know him, considering you copied his video's title and thumbnail for your video
Unknown guy with 1,57 subs giving you advice on how to write a dialogue on his level, while claiming he uncovered the secret which most of screenwriters are missing xD Bro defo writing comedy.
Partially correct. The idea that you would say "no" to yourself when you're deciding to judge against the idea you've recorded introduces negativity. "So what are you saying?" you may ask. "Am I to say 'yes' to myself even as I negate myself?" Yes! "What do you mean?" you may continue. "Then my writer's block is back!" So close to the truth, but untrue. You say "yes" to even your "no." You say "yes, and..." as any improviser knows. Yes, this is not a good idea, and it is made better by "..." Know that the simple "no" is not the way forward. The "no" that is encapsulated by a bigger "yes" wins. Try it. Say "yes" to even your "no." Things become complex, but say "yes" to the complexity as well. "Yes, and..." Keep the "yes, and..." going and you are unstoppable. Diffuse? Maybe. Random? Maybe. Incoherent? Maybe. But unstoppable. Everything is on the table.
As always, amazing insights Tucker

youre just genuinly funny man. Love it
I like your content but personally I disagree. An outline isn’t set in stone. It’s there to guide your story and characters, but let both the story and the characters write its self. A good outline with allow this, no outline usually results in unfinished scripts.
Aw I guess we cant be friends sorry! Im an Andrew Garfield Spider-man fan over all of the movies!😂
I’m sorry, but I have to say this is bad advice. Especially for inexperienced writers who don’t have a clear grasp of structure. The title is clickbaity thought.
There are no stories that are written without outlining, even if the author thinks he or she didn't do it. There's no opposition here between outline and characters. You do outlining based on the characters, their goals, the obstacles they face. If someone does it wrong, it's a shitty outline, not an outline.
We had to buy another spider man suit because the only way we could wash it was while he was asleep. As long as we had it back on before he woke up.
Are you keeping your popcorn warm under that lamp back there?
I tell writers subtext allows the audience to participate in the movie.
I only agree with you to certain level. What you should have pointed out instead is that screenwriting shouldn't be formulaic. I agree that the most important thing to screenwriting is character. The characters dictate the whole story. But writing blindly is not a good idea either. Personally, I create character bios for each one of my characters. The moment I start brainstorming, the story unfolds on its own based solely on the characters I've created. But I still don't write anything until I've brainstormed my way through the entire story. I know the entire story before I write anything down. Then I write down the key scenes on index cards just so I visualize the whole thing. Then I start writing the story. Mostly I don't even use the index cards, but the story is so clear in my head as I write.
What if I told you you're forgetting something vital....? Coffee. Wake, fire up the java, go.
Why are you so adamant you have the answers to the right & wrong here? Have you sold a bunch of screenplays or have a PhD in narratology?
I like the video but I actually unsubscrbed because of your excessively creative editing and attempts at being quirky, funny. I'm sorry to be negative, but to me you're signaling to the audence that you don't have any attention span and need to be entertained and startled awake every fifteen seconds. I know a lot of other people do what you do, but most of the people i watch regularly who discuss writing and storytelling have a mostly sober, nearly academic manner when discussing what, to us, should be serious intellectual, artistic work. you still got a like, though.
Don't tell people writing an outline will make you a worse writer lmao, different methods work for different people and for a lot of people, starting with an outline will help them tell their story most effectively.
fire outro. that was good dialogue
❤❤❤
Dialogue writing is a real issue with the Dark Knight and all Nolan’s films. That’s objectively true.
I often "write badly on purpose" because my inner editor will ALWAYS step up to "fix it." LOL
Respectfully, I have to disagree. Your tips are valid and correct, making your story about characters, giving them different beliefs, goals, etc. But all that is supposed to be in your well structured outline as well. If the outline isn't based on characters, then you're outlining wrong. There's nothing wrong with doing it the way you're describing, but there is nothing wrong with outlining as well, unless you are outlining the wrong way.
I can't disagree with a single word. I did know these things before I began writing, but I did not know them consciously. It took years before I understood what I already knew intuitively (and not knowing consciously led me into cul-de-sacs on occasion, but those helped me figure it out). I didn't know what I already knew until I did the hard work that proved it to me. Conclusion? Do the work.
At least in my view, the scene where Fletcher and Nehman talk in Whiplash is even cleverer and more subtle than it first seems, because Nehman's responses to Fletcher are purposefully vague. At first, he says his father is a writer, and he only gradually presents more accurate information about him when Fletcher asks. Nehman also vaguely says that his mother "left" but doesn't specify how or why. So, when Fletcher eventually tells Nehman that his mother walked out on his father because she thought he was a failure, he's constructing a narrative out of his own particular mental issues. Whether this is an accurate assessment of Nehman's character or history is irrelevant. It also suggests that Nehman is already trying to keep his guard up around Fletcher, by giving away only small bits of vague information instead of spilling his guts (the way he might to someone he knew he could trust).
I was actually thinking that maybe he just wasn't comfortable talking about family life, maybe he was ashamed. Maybe he thought being a writer was more respectable than being a high school teacher.
