Gerstner Plunger Pin Install
Просмотров 2 тыс.2 года назад
A brief demonstration of inserting the plunger pin. Position chest upright and place one of the stainless steel washers over the bottom hole in the front rail. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers, push the end of the pin through the bottom washer and release it through the top hole. This can be a bit awkward and challenging so several attempts might be necessary.

What's overall height with the lid open?
Dont put the gertner logo where the headstock logo will be. Yes its a lremium logo but it will be covering up a $50k gibson headstock
Would be so much better without the music
No audio?
Thank you for your video. Would this work with other types of glue?
Thank You
What about the interior sides of the drawers. Don’t they put felt in this area? It looked like it was there before.
I’d like to learn the name of the band/music in this video
I bought my O82 in 1986 Been using it daily for past 38 years for my job as toolmaker here in Dayton Ohio
I like👍 the hot plate and the Glue in a Ziplock bag idea.
I have this chest and base in quarter-cut oak. It's fabulous and has three sets of keys. Just bought the Gerstner cover for it to protect it. They still make tip top quality products
The lock plate is not screwed down all the way.....🤌
Sorry to hear that. Please call our office and we'll see what we can do to make things right.
@gerstner2010 ah you plugged in? Its in your video
Beautiful
Good video
Is that a cup stain on the lid? I would kill someone...😜 Very interesting that they use galvanized metal for the drawer bottoms. I never looked these up because I figured they would be way to expensive, but surprised by the prices. Might have one in my future...
Looks like he missed the groove altogether with the glue first at 5:44 and again on the same piece at 5:46. No hate, just pointing it out.
Excellent, thank you!!
Frame 5:20 reveals a not so nice inside drawer sides. Restoration is just fair.
Thanks for commenting. With all restoration projects we do, the customer directs what is to be restored. While we can sand and refinish older chests, re-felt, replace all hardware, and bring it back to its original appearance, most prefer to leave the dings, scratches, and patina as a way to honor the history of the chest. Many chests are passed down through generations and the restoration of those physical markers, which some may see as needing to be fixed, probably tells a family's story that's worth repeating.
I'm restoring a 1940s journeyman chest. What type of tape was used in the video?
wow beautiful craftsmanship
What did you use to get the old felt out so easily?
the glue used is hide glue and therefore water soluble.
10 thousand views and not one person comments. And the most important information to this video is missing…when you’re holding the left side forward and elevated as much as possible, after the right pin pops out from the track you not only want to make sure your angle is good, but you need to go in deep enough to make the right pin come up and over the first shelf slide so that you can pull the drawer out without scraping and scratching the finish on the inside under that first drawer slide like I did…since he didn’t say this I had to figure It out myself because he makes It look way to easy when it’s not…
I’ve got the same chest…….
Dealing with this zip-top bag in the water is a hassle. Use a double-boiler like you'd use to melt chocolate.
How do you fix the inside draw lock the lockdoes work a onall other draw and top.
I can't believe no one ever commented on this video ! ! !
How about a video replacing one on an old box where there is no cut away?
You took the words right outta my mouth!
The music is awful but the video is wonderful. Your craftsmanship is second to none. I WILL own a Gerstner chest one day.
Nice work. Thanks for sharing.👍
Thank you! I have seen the felt torn out in peaces.
Make sure your latches are fully clean before attempting! I’m fixing up my grand dad’s Starrett/Gerstner box and I managed to break a replacement spring because I didn’t think to clear out all the pieces of the old spring. I didn’t want to remove the latches from the box because the screws are all original.
Nice clamps, where can I get one.
I bet that case is a bit more pricier than the Squier locked in it.
Do you still make this >
Please, please, please... remove that idiotic music from the clips. One: it cover all the work noises Second: it is anoing so it hurt Third: kill the one that make it into the clips Forth: only complete idiot could use generic/syntethic/mind destroing sounds like this with something fine as this chests
Retiring machinist. But I would go back to work doing this no problem!
Someone did a mild resto on my 1930's 052. I thought about sending it in for a full resto but then it would lose it's charm. It's truly one of my most prized possessions
Yes as Wayne said except I used a Dremel to grind head off and then punch thru.
In my view this method is incorrect. The (widely available) tools curl the rivet's ends onto the wood surface, neatly seating the rivet in place rather than hammering them flat. And a thin felt or other cloth should be inserted between the hinge and the anvil (whatever heavy steel piece is used to back up the head of the rivet) to eliminate scratches on the hinge.
That's going to be a real bugger to remove when it's eventually serviced again in 50 years.
Amazing products. Made in the USA. Worth every penny!
Gerstner is one of a kind! Doing it right for over 100 years in the USA.
WORLD CLASS craftmanship. A+++
Beautiful!
Beautiful work! I enjoy restoring tools and furniture. Got a few tips from this! Never thought of using air compressor to blow glue down crack. Thanks! Btw I need one of those tool chests, my next purchase
Can I get a catalog?
Very cool. I used to work at this place many years ago in my younger days for a short time. I was looking for a shot of the old manual elevator inside. That building hasn't changed since it was built probably some time around 1900 and survived the 1913 flood.
Any chance you bring back these kits?
We're looking into expanding our kit offerings, so there's a chance.
Bought one!! Amazing craftsmanship! Love it
Glad you like it!
I love it so much! Wish I could afford it! Sure is nice though!
I am impressed & Made in the USA with PRIDE. Got my eye on the B2705 Pro-Series Base for my extensive knife collection...Gerstner International has a cheaper version of it & costs about (4 ) times less. I will NEVER buy anything made in China if I can avoid it... God Bless America & our beloved President, Donald J. Trump... :~)
