With all due respect, geocentric model of the universe dates back to the times of Plato who was 200-300 years prior to the Catholic Church. The Church inherited this view from Greeks. Later on the model was developed by the astronomer and mathematician Claudius Ptolemy, which was widely accepted until the 16th century, when there was shift in paradigm as argued by Kuhn. The Greek-Ptolmaic paradigm was upheld even amongst the astronomers of the ancient world until the scientific revolution. It was part of common wisdom. Squarely reading geo-centrism as a wisdom (much less a superstition) upheld and perpetuated by the Church alone- against the beliefs of the contemporary times- might sometimes reflect the questionable tendencies of those historians who would like to see the modern age (characterized by Renaissance and scientific revolution) as a light at the end of the dark tunnel of the mediaeval. I could be missing something(s).
