It's wouldn't be logical from gameplay perspective to marry same sex since you can't produce childrens and can't have a child who you will play after character death.

I looked into a bit, read some of his tweets and the steam news post he made. I didn't find anything wrong with his initial answer but his wording in the news post comes off a little needlessly intense. He then insists in his tweets that the hate mob are pretenders using the LGBT flag as an excuse to bully people (which is a fair assessment) but also makes the statement "I will never bend to the rainbow flag" which confuses me a little. I also find it a little odd how you can manage to code a game to make same sex marriages particularly difficult to code around. I'm not a coder so I wouldn't know, but can't you just allow two units (being the player character and NPC) to like.. be in that marriage bond without the ability to procreate? It could be much more complicated under the hood but other games like rimworld figured it out just fine so I dunno. He did say the intention of the mechanic *was* children so I could certainly buy that procreation came first and marriage was built around it. It's just a little weird, is all. While I think his initial response was very rational (and not even dismissive of the possibility of same sex couples in the future) his extended responses are going a little too hard. Amidst all the normal and good people defending him, he's got a sizable (or at least very vocal) mob of genuine homophobes rallying around his game too. On the flip side though as I was writing this I found a tweet of his with the quote "Any "far-wing" personalities will have to come to the centrist position of "live and let live" so we can focus on enjoying games, or they will be removed to promote us with their bickering somewhere else." Which is pretty based, glad he worded it to cover that he's not going to tolerate right wing extremism either. Kinda makes me feel like I wasted my time typing this out honestly... tl;dr dev went a little too hard on the responses and it's a little weird but otherwise not a bigot

I'm a trans girl, and true trans want to distance and dissociate themselves from LGBT, which nowadays harasses everyone, including us TS, since we do HRT and surgeries, which are seen as conservative and not body-positive. Nowadays people are too happy infringe on the rights of others, instead of defend their own rights.

I personally find this video to (as demonstrated in the comments section) be rather a breeding ground for overreaction in itself. I feel like a lot of people here who are getting annoyed at this situation are only really doing it to support preconceived notions they already have and to perpetuate hate. This is not a major situation, even as you said the reviews were barely changed by it, it is a group of people taking what a developer has said and reading into it too far and applying assumptions about the creator that do not seem to be supported elsewhere. As such it doesn't need to be framed as such a major deal, most if not all people who are looking at this game would not be discouraged from purchasing the game if they spent even a second looking into it themselves. Honestly if anything i would expect that this harassment is orchestrated by someone who simply dislikes him and his game, and is just using the guise of accusations of homophobia to try to appeal to people who don't look into the situation. -note: I am a staunch supporter of the LGBTQ and all related issues, additionally i do not intend to minimize any impact that this situation may have had upon anyone due to indirect or direct actions people have taken.

Personally, I'd put more emphasis on and add more benefits to the aspects of heritage, but at the same time hard-code that only certain types of marriage (you know which) lead to procreation if I ever was caught in a debate like this. Maybe these activists would understand the concept after experiencing it this way. Or, more likely, they would get even more mad. At the same time I get that depending on the context of the game it might be too much work to implement something like this just to troll someone and the author of the game has his own priorities, so ultimately this is just a youtube comment.

as someone who is queer and played a decent amount of soulash 1 but haven't gotten around to 2 yet I was mildly disappointed that the dev chose not to add gay relationships to the game but what really got to me was his response to it after the fact is what really made me worried. I don't think a few bad reviews are equivalent to being canceled by the woke mob, its people being understandably upset about a reasonable feature they wanted in the game not being implemented even if they chose to express that in a immature way. Since then just casually looking into the situation there is no shortage posts about him making a brave stand against the "far wing extremists" who have formed an "oppressive mob" (his words) and are hellbent on destroying his game and its hard not to feel like it has less to do with video games and more about politics because the language he uses feels like a lot of the kind of language used to attack queer people broadly. at the end of the day I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt but its hard to imagine opening soulash 2 and not getting an icky feeling all over a feature at the end of the day I can't imagine would of taken very much effort to add. It just sucks these days that simply asking to be able to be myself in a video game is seen as a radical political stance.

TLDR, Game Dev is not likely not malicious. He is just Polish, and so is completely oblivious to American online politics. Game dev does not dislike gay people and does actively remove bad actors from his community. This seems like an unfortunate case of cultural miscommunication, game dev committed a minor faux-pas with his phrasing by mistake. That said his faux-defiant "Poland Strong! I won't bend the knee!" tweet was cringe and stupid. Game dev is an autist, but thats to be expected.

Honestly some of the stuff he said was pretty... strange? Not his initial response - that was completely reasonable and fair, and anyone who harassed or review bombed for that is stupid. But where he went after that was a little more ambiguous - though importantly NOT DAMNING IN ANY WAY. Later, he would clarify that he is not against LGBT people as he did in this vid and appears to be banning some bad actors from his discord no matter which 'side' they come from. That's good. Even if one side is attempting to 'side with him,' that side is still pretty bigoted, and it's a good look to not stand with them due to their values even if they would be "defending" him. Hopefully this will blow over and those weird people on either side will find something new to fight over. Unfortunately, when you talk about the LGBT and certain terminally-online people, there's always going to be some people who get the wrong idea. To anyone who's like that and is reading this, it can be really easy to get defensive when you think someone's hateful towards you, but it's important to keep an open mind and not assume everyone you meet is evil. And even if you conclude that someone is bigoted, or hateful, or a bad person, just... avoid them. You don't have to harass them. It's not your civic duty to bother someone who you don't like. All you do then is make everything worse and, as is often the case, attract legitimately bad people who will try to worm their way into your target's good graces by being 'supportive' and then start trying to turn them to their own way of beliefs. My brother went through the exact same pipeline after being 'cancelled' and he only snapped out of it once his supportive new friends started saying awful things about the LGBT - my brother is gay and he almost instantly snapped out of it, but don't underestimate the power of this type of indoctrination. If it didn't work, literal cults wouldn't exist. If you really care about protecting people from people like that, don't push random people towards those groups. Hopefully he keeps both the authoritarian weirdos hiding behind "LGBT" and the weird homophobes out of his community as much as is possible. Let the game's community be about the game like he wants, lmao. At least out of all of this he got attention on his game and some new sales, though ideally it would've happened through nicer means like a big youtuber's shout out or something.

Thanks for making a video about this game i've never even heard before, i immediately bought the 1st and 2nd game and even the soundtrack to support the devs. We need more variety to the games out there and indie devs are the ones brave enough to do it will always gets my support especially when being bullied by others just to push their own selfish agenda.
