Don’t understand how they get such light sentences. Firstly, the last I checked housebreaking and theft has a minimum of 2 years and maximum of 14 years. Secondly these foreign nationals came to Singapore with the sole intention of mugging us. I can understand a lighter sentence if they came to find work but was unfruitful and resorted to do something like this. But this is upright coming here with the intention of harming our people and our peoples’ properties. Although I know law should have equality regardless of nationality, but I can’t help but think that foreigners on social visit pass coming over on purpose should be given the maximum penalty. Afterall irregardless whether you’re on work permit, PR or Singapore citizen, we contributed to the nation’s building someway or another. However these unwelcome visitors did nothing for our lands and wants to rip us off our labour. At the same time, they get off easy because they are “first time offenders” but cmon, people who dares to go overseas to do such an act in unchartered lands are never first time offenders. They have probably multiple criminal histories back in their country but end up they get off lighter than our own citizens who might have had a previous offence. Where is the justice? At least meet in the middle between the minimum 2 years and the maximum 14 years for this type of criminals that have totally no contributions.
