World Wonders Board Game - Solo Review!
Parks, Horrified, Sleeping Gods Distant Skies, Onirim, Trailblazers, Cthulhu Death May Die and something not so filler like Final Girl, Tapestry and Expeditions
Those are all good choices! I’ve played a lot of those! I actually just ordered Expeditions, excited to check it out.
Haha, Marvel Champions IS DANGEROUS! It's like a symbiot that will take all your money and all your gaming time! But jokes aside, it is a great game. Great list overall aswell. A lot of favorites of mine. Marvel Champions, Lost Ruins of Arnak & Heat are all great both solo and multiplayer. I love Everdell, but not so much in solo.. maybe I should give it another try.
Marvel Champions can become the only game you play for sure haha. Everdell I’ve always liked the base game solo, but the expansion really adds to it!
Spirit island digital makes it wayyy more approachable for folks new to it. Played a number of good solo games recently- Harvest and Raising Robots being two standouts. Wingspan is a good prerequisite to Raising Robots but if you’re comfortable with that and looking for a little more of a challenge the Nauvoo games folks developed a VERY approachable rule book for it. Harvest is a great worker placement optimization puzzle with a solid solo mode!
I should try Spirit Island digitally. I just played Harvest on BGA the other day and liked it! I haven’t checked out Raising Robots yet, but have heard great things!
@ I play spirit island on my iPad and it takes care of so much of the admin that makes it much more approachable. Raising robots plays great solo and has a TON of replay value - worth seeking out.
Yeah, became an expert in spirit Island due to the app
Yes. Sorry. I'm answering your first question. Aside, love most of these games, but didn't realize that these all had a 1 player mode. Appreciate the video. Subbed!
Thanks for watching!!
@@SpecificallySolo can't wait to watch more!
Great list! I’m going to go watch you other videos bc I like games that are 30 mins or less.
Thanks for watching! I really enjoy short games too, especially when you maybe only have 20-30 minutes to play!
Great video! I started off as a solo gamer, but now has a game group. Can you suggest games that have good solo modes, but can also be fun for multiplayer?
Thanks! I’ve found that honestly most games that you can play solo also work well for multiplayer! For a mixture of both, it can be good to look for games that have some good player interaction, so when you do bring it out with a group, you’re not playing “multiplayer solitaire” with everyone just kind of looking down at their own board. Hope that helps! I might also try to do some more research and maybe make a video on this in the future!
Dune imperium hands down 😉
@@SpecificallySolo thanks :)
@@soloflo nice! I just bought uprising and the gameplay does look challenging and fun. Can't wait to personally find out 😀
@ the more you play the more you will learn to enjoy it and later with friends 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 same goes for many other games
Thank you for this list. One of your previous lists helped me decide to get into board games, with solo modes an essential aspect, this past few months. I already have four from your top 10, yes Wingspan has beautiful artwork, but it has given me food for thought about the others in the list. I just need to stop buying and start playing more! Thank you for your hard work in these videos.
Glad I could help and glad you’re enjoying board games so far! I agree that you can have too many games, so sometimes a small collection of games you get to play a lot really is the best!
Great topic for a solo gamer, keep it up. Thanks!
Thanks! Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks for the thorough overview. Loved this game but I got lucky with getting two familiars early on.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the game!
Earth is the only game I've played on this list and I do love it. Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Due to my present disability I am playing armchair games and R&W ones are great for this. I totally agree with you with regards to the "Clever series".....the first one is the best . Dungeons,Dice and Danger; My City; Splitter; Cartographers etc. So far I have about 20 different R&W games however, with over 400 board games I miss my dining room table ! Hey Ho, that's life ! Kind regards from the UK.
Thanks for watching! R&W’s are some of my favorites also! And I agree on the Clever games, none of them have been as good as that first one.
I have had tons of fun solo-ing Earth. Can't wait for that expansion too!
The expansion looks good! I will definitely be picking that up!
I definitely agree Mistwood makes Everdell so much better for solo! I almost gave up on it without the expansion until I heard the suggestion to get it. :)
I’m with you! Mistwood really adds a lot of replayability!
Thank you for the review!
It's an incredible and beautiful game. I have the other two and I found Scorn's Stockade more difficult. I look forward to playing this and completing the trilogy! 🤩
Scorn’s Stockade is the only one I haven’t played but I really enjoyed this one and Vainglory’s Grotto! Thanks for watching!
I just recently found out about Bonsai and looked into it. Looks like a great solo game. Will probably pick up the base game and this new expansion. Will check out your Apiary video soon too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
Bonsai is fun, nice little 20-30 min game! Apiary is good too, that’s a bit heavier and a longer game, but still a lot of fun! Thanks for watching!
I like slot of what board&dice does but turcis solo automa a.i.s are too much for me.really wanted to love teotiucan but I spent more time remembering the automa
Teotihuacan is a tough automa for sure, this one wasn't too bad though to run!
But is it better than prays Caput regni
Thanks for this review! What are you favorite roll/flip and writes? I got curious
I really like Hadrian’s Wall, French Quarter, Cartographers, & That’s Pretty Clever!
Great Video. Picked up the app - I'm going into a no-buy year on games from 1 October as I've bought dozens and not played them, so challenges and logging will help keep things interesting and make me really engage with the collection I've built up.
Thanks for watching! In the app you can even do a challenge for “unplayed owned games” so all those ones you haven’t played yet you make sure to get to the table.
Thanx for the list! On my list are Phoenix new Horizon and Men-Nefer, check those out!
Great stuff, your #7 game is minecart town. Not minecraft town. I get it, we all would love a great minecraft board game, but it’s not this game.
😂😂 I don’t know how I made it through filming and editing this video before I realized it was not called “Minecraft Town” thanks for watching!
Nice goals. ISS Vanguard is on my Shelf of Opportunity at the moment. I need to schedule that game out
It’s good! I haven’t played it in a couple of months but it’s a really fun one. The ship phase is definitely my favorite part.
@@SpecificallySolo I have a couple friends that want to experience the story
Stoked for Conservas! Bone Wars is new to me, that sounds so fun, and looks like a great table presence too
“Minecart Town” 5:23 not sure how I missed that!
SETI also has an option to play solo, will def. try that out since i enjoy it in lost ruins of arnak!
For some reason SETI just doesn’t draw me in for whatever reason, but CGE always puts out good stuff and I do really like Arnak as well!
Conservas is such a fun game. Sadly, not much replayability after you finish 12 scenarios.
Good to know, sounds like it could be fun even if it’s limited to a certain number of scenarios.
The publisher posted some extra challenges on bgg!
@@luuk4089 Oh, i wasn't aware of that. Need to check it out. Thank you!
Do you also have the stretch goal scenarios?
Am I cheating on play count by playing on BGA?
I don’t think so. Sometimes that’s easier, especially set up wise and also you can play from anywhere, which is helpful too. I play on BGA a lot, especially bigger games!
Nice list. I backed Galaxy Postman on gamefound. Havent had the chance to play it solo yet, but it seems easy to manage. Looks great on the table and is as and quick to play. Conservas is great, quick, easy tot get to table and looks fantastic.
Glad Conservas is good! I will probably pick that one up at some point!
We've enjoyed both The Red Cathedral and The White Castle and I play a decent amount of solo games so I've preordered Flatiron. (Plus, I used to live near the actual building itself.) Nice list! You had a couple games on there I hadn't heard much about before.
Thanks for watching! I’ve played Red Cathedral and enjoyed it! Haven’t had the chance to check out The White Castle yet.
Thanks so much for your thorough review! Really appreciate it.
Thanks for the great game!
This was a surprisingly fun solo game, mostly cause this is one I am okay playing with two characters. I don't have this set; I have the other two. Each set seems to come with a character whose job is like the tank/damage dealer and the other is like the support. It sounds like Ashe is the support character of this set which is why maybe you're having trouble winning with just that one character. I have a similar experience using just Feyn but not Naz in Scorn's Stockade. Anyway, I just wanted to send in my long-winded two cents!
I never thought about two handed, usually cause I don’t love it, but you’re right, with this game it would be super easy to operate. I will have to try that and see how it goes!
Picked up the app, was looking for a better way to track my plays and this is easily it. Great recommendation!
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful!
Great review! Very thorough and balanced. I plan to pick up Windmill Valley once my FLGS gets it in. I'm looking forward to playing it. Have you seen slickerdrips' or Gaming Rules!'s solo playthroughs? Tom lost but Paul won; both games were competitive, though, and at least winnable. Maybe you could pick up some helpful strategies from their playthroughs.
Thanks for watching! I saw a little of some solo playthroughs, I probably need to come up with some new strategies haha. I tried a few things out in a few different games (one did a lot of wheel upgrades, another tried to get a bunch of windmills out, another tried to fill up on tulips etc) and haven’t been successful so far. I definitely will be playing it more though to try and improve!
Cool video and some really great games on your 20X5! I successfully completed my first 10X10 last year so I decided to do it again this year. Here's my progress thus far. Like you, I reserve the right to swap out games if I'm not feeling it for a full 10 plays. Or if something comes on my radar and I end up enjoying it immensely. Ezra and Nehemiah - 21 Voidfall - 19 The White Castle - 15 Nucleum - 12 Scholars of the South Tigris - 12 Barcelona - 11 Sankore: The Pride of Mansa Musa - 10 Amritsar: The Golden Temple - 10 Zhanguo: The First Empire - 6 I plan to get 10 plays of Inventors of the South Tigris (just got shipping notification today) and Windmill Valley might end up replacing Zhanguo on the list. Technically, I have more than 10 plays of For Northwood! and more than 20 plays of Draft and Write Records but I wasn't really counting those towards my challenge.
Thanks for watching! I have Ezra and Nehemiah that I picked up at Gen Con but have not had a chance to play it yet! I’ve heard a lot about Voidfall, The White Castle, and Nucleum but have not had a chance to check those out!
Some great games on your 20x5 list! I'm part of the board game challenge community on BGG. One of my favorite challenges is playing a game each month in each of 12 different categories, for example games with food in them, or games with a location I've visited in real life. It forces me to pay attention to details I might otherwise not notice or think about. 😊 Good luck with completing the 20x5!
Thanks for watching! I haven’t done the BGG challenges, but I will have to take a look at those!
Interesting. My play approach is two pronged. I have gamespace :) so I leave a monster up 24/7. Usually 2 months per game on minimum. I also have gamespace on a desk for quick roll and writes, or even a solo Garphill game. I have finished about 40% of ISSV first campaign...so what...15% of the game content? :) I hit 3 of your 20, ISSV, DU:I, and World Wonders. Nice list, thanks.
Thanks for watching! I need to play ISS Vanguard more, I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve gotten through so far with the campaign.
Hi Jared, thanks for this video. As always, I enjoyed watching it. But this time I was particularly happy because you mentioned this BG app, which is exactly what I was looking for. I just had not realized it existed. I was thinking of setting myself a challenge for the year 2025. I wanted to play all the unplayed games in my shelves at least three times. I was very surprised to hear that other people are doing the same crazy thing 🙂 At 70, I feel I do not have enough time to squander it with random playing. I am sure this app will help me find a structure for myself. Maria from Austria
Maria, thanks so much for watching from Austria! I’m glad the app will be able to help you out! Having a challenge definitely gives you motivation and a goal to work toward, and I like it, especially if I want to make sure I play certain games. I think playing all your unplayed games three times is a great challenge!
first list ive ever seen when the box size got smaller and smaller lol
Don't go is my advice
Hey man, I love this game but I taught I was playing it wrong because it’s so hard. Turns out, it’s just a hard game 😂 I still love it, just wanted to help you out with a rule. When you fail a mission you are suppose to turn the mission over and continue with a choice between 2 missions.
Thanks for the rule clarification! And it is tough, I almost never win 🤣 but I still have a lot of fun playing it like you!
Sorry for no sound at the beginning, still learning! Head to the 6:30 minute mark and you'll be able to hear!
So glad you did a playthrough! I have this on order looking forward to playing!
Thanks for watching! It’s a great solo game, you’ll have fun with it!
Buttons and Bugs is a solid little game which introduces you slowly into harder and harder scenarios that can mostly be played out in 20 - 30 minutes. The figures are tiny but very well made. Make sure you bend the scenarios deck cards flat though as it is difficult to keep your characters in their hexes otherwise. if you enjoy painting miniatures for Warhammer or any other wargame you'll like the challenge of paining the characters, which makes it feel more finished, in my view.
Thanks for the advice about the deck. I’ve never painted minis before but it seems like that would be a fun challenge! They were demoing it at Gen Con and it’s kind of crazy how little space it takes up.
Thanks for the kind of video i am looking for. Sub as a result. Other Stonemaier's games to recommend for solo ? Scythe perhaps ? Thanks
Thanks for subscribing! Scythe I have played solo. The solo mode is a little difficult to understand. Wingspan is good solo and I’ve also heard Tapestry is good solo but I’ve never played that one.
YOU ARE AWESOME! ❤❤❤
What a great haul! I’m interested in/have preordered 🙃 a number of those :)
Nice! I’m excited to play them and dive into them more!
Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated.
Thanks for watching!
Great overview! I would very much like to hear more about Kronologic: Paris 1920 and Kinfire Delve: Vainglory's Grotto.
I second Kronologic: Paris!
I picked up the 3 Kinfire Delve boxes at Gen. Just played my first round, and it was a lot of fun!
Another request for Kronologic!
Sounds like I need to test out Kronologic and report back!
