Mike Compton "Orange Blossom Breakdown" Single Video Premiere
From the album, "RARE AND FINE-UNCOMMON TUNES OF BILL MONROE"
Mike Compton, likely the most dedicated student of Bill Monroe's music over the past 50 years, was uniquely qualified to animate a set of rarely heard and unreleased instrumentals by the Father of Bluegrass. That's the story behind Compton's new album, Rare & Fine, set for release March 4, 2022.
These thirteen tracks, all but one composed by Monroe himself, were culled from the large collection of hand-traded CDRs, cassette tapes and videos that Compton has built over his career. The songs are brought to life by a start band of Nashville's finest acoustic musicians. Stunning triple fiddles come from Michael Cleveland, Laura Orsha...

REALLY GOOD STUFF. Very nicely done!
Bill Monroe might have written it, but Mike Compton made it more pleasant to listen to. As for a professional recording, Kenny Baker on the fiddle in 1972 rocked the tune.
fascinating thing for me was seeing the huge difference in left hand technique. MC is so economical - the hand looks almost robotic; just sliding smoothly up and down the fingerboard and the fingers moving only just enough, the hand never changing shape. Sierra's slender fingers moving around so much more with changing hand shape and CC somewhere between the two. Still, all 3 are super accurate and blindingly fast and able to translate their musical intentions with superb precision. Awesome performance, overwhelmingly brilliant stuff.
The first time I heard Shad Cobb he was playing with Mike Snider. I’ll always hear his name pronounced with Mike’s southern drawl when he introduced him. 😂
hot
Like three mandos.
Compton full of bad notes....Campbell ....OK and very good rythm.... Hull, about perfect.....!
Sound is 100% the same as the Bavarian & Austrian folk musicians!
This is the greatest high-lonesome sound I've ever heard!! Thanks for sharing.
I've never heard such a great singing and playing. Thanks for sharing.
EXCELLENT! Great job to you all, this is a fantastic tune :)
So impressive! Every time I’ve watched this video over the years I’ve seen something new, and I’m not even a mandolin player! I can’t think of any mandolin players who have impressed me more than Sierra Hull; she’s one of the greatest!
My God! That's some good stuff!
Genius
💐
Mr Compton are playing a shuffle on part of that, 1 and a, and on the other part, going 1 e and a ,
Dang Mike, how do you move your fingers so fast?
Really nice relaxed version. We play it with Tennessee Waltz, just instrumentally, makes a good pair.
Bostin, oh, aar!
Just a couple of masters of pickin
Somebody is trying to go to fast rather than staying with the groove.I understand rawhide is meant to push your limits and Lord knows Bill Monroe did it all the time ,…push the limits.Of course, they are all great. I’ enjoy the contrast of Sierra’s slender long fingers and that fellow in the middle ,with his chubby fingers; and short.
This is one of the coolest mandolin jams I’ve seen, and maybe my scope of witnessing is limited, but maybe not, because this ones got heart in the rhythm. Thanks for sharing such a sweet jiving moment of time.
Wes Corbett. Matt Glaser. Bobby Britt. Darol Anger. Molly Tuttle. Sam Grisman. Mike Compton.
I'd call that a line up!
An ALL STAR line up!
Would be nice to do another of these "pop up" concerts in honor of Roland White.
Please do another one of these! You put the Man in Mandolin
Excellent! Album purchased. Thanks
Thump ! Thump ! Thump!! Just love the percussiveness of Mikes playing its bluegrass mandolin sound at its best!
So good on so many levels. Thank you for this.
Rocking!!!!!
Tasty mando playing from the best.
Love it Mike!
Killer!
I love that woman
This is a long way from "The Wind in the Willows" 😀 (Avery's nephew here lol) Great job guys!!!
Uncle Junior plays a mean mandolin!
Great laid- back lilt.
King of the mandolin, far as I know.
what about chris thile
Does Carhart make the best overalls?
Fantastic! 2 legends..
Amazing thanks 😊 one day I’m too 🎸
From Scotland I say that sure sounds Braw lads! 👍🏴
Why is this called 'Willow Garden', when it's 'Big River' By Johnny Cash?
Excellent performance! i loved it! I hope to hear more from you, you are awesome!
My ring and pinky ache just watching Sierra hit those high notes.
what a cool jam!!!! whooooooooooooooooooo! :) i first met ms. hull in the instrument vendor's tent at merlefest. i worked for rigel mandolins. she was a toddler walking around shutting down jams with her chops lol. she played some crazy solo that left scott vestal looking confused.
Tater ❤️ always discover new things from your playing.... never fails to inspire me....
You are too kind, sir. Here’s hoping all is well at your house and you are weathering all trials.
@@TheMikeCompton literally weathering all trials.Last year was tough in every way.... trying to stay inspired. Thanks Tater. Take care and take my love.
"Keep your hand on the plow", ...What!!!? That was sweet!
Three people who could all play me into the corner, and yet Sierra is a level above. Much cleaner, much more creative. Amazing.
Neither is a level above the others. One IS NOT better, just different. IMHO Compton’s first break was the best, but only because I liked it best
These three play very well together. Need more!!
Videos like this are the real reason why I love RUclips.
