Asiana Airline Crash Landing
I witnessed the ending seconds of impact when the Asiana Airlines flight crashed while landing at San Francisco International Airport 4+ years ago on July 6, 2013. My crew and I had just finished off-loading a flight on gate 56A, My co-workers had already left the gate, I was last to leave the gate area. Just as I was stepping away, I herd what sounded like empty wide body containers being dropped to the ground or being knocked around on the roadway behind me - it was unusual for the area. I turn to look just as the Asiana 777 type aircraft (off in the distance) was cartwheeling and spinning to it’s final resting place in-between the runway and taxiway. What I thought was the nose of the ...

      @Dred242 Год назад

      @@rowanwhittaker2530 Originally it took a 1.35 V mercury battery but mercury batteries are no longer made. So you will have to settle for a PX675 1.35v battery which is a Silver Oxide or sometimes a Zinc Air type battery - hearing air batteries. You can find them on Amazon or eBay for cheap. Basically you want to stick with a battery that's 1.35 volts, anything lower or higher will cause the built-in light meter (which is powered by the battery) to measure light incorrectly causing the camera to over or under expose your shots.

      @@rowanwhittaker2530 Flip the camera over and look at the bottom. Look for a little silver sunburst looking half-disc that sits next to a rectangular cutout. That rectangular cutout is actually the battery holder. By sticking your fingernail in the grooves of the silver sunburst looking half-disc and rotate it so that the cutoff portion of the disc lines up with the rectangular cutout of the battery holder, you will be able to pull the battery holder out.

    • @Dred242
      @Dred242 5 лет назад

      Hi Xochitl, Back in the old days Plus X was rated at 125iso and Super XX was rated at 200iso. If someone were shooting in extremely bright conditions (sunny at the beach or ski slopes) they may have used Plus X 125iso film back then. If they were shooting on a partly cloudy day or in a shady outdoor area (or indoors) they may have use super XX 200iso film. If you're using a signet 35 today in the lighting conditions I just described, I would consider shooting 200iso film with the shutter speed set at the maximum (fastest) of 1/300sec for all shots taken outdoors and 1/100sec (slower) when shooting indoors. Please consider using a hand held light meter. Then you can simply set the light meter to the same film speed you are using and it will show you all of the options available to get the best shot after you take a light meter reading. Good luck, and have fun!

    My friend, Bob D'Arcy, who is now 86, used this same Kodak Signet camera to take 100s of photographs of Disneyland in 1955 when it was still being built. He was personally hired by Walt Disney to be the park's very first Guest Relations Host and he even laid some of the tracks for various rides in the park. Bob still has his original Signet camera with his other memorabilia from those years at Disneyland. He used that camera to also photograph behind the scenes on the sets of various television shows and films he worked in, such as Combat! and Gilligan's Island. I keep telling him to print some of his old slides or let me digitize more of them to post to his facebook page (facebook.com/mr.bobdarcy). He put several of his old Disneyland photos in his book, "A Walk in the Park: Reflections from Disneyland's First Host" (amzn.to/2ClY7Iz). When I look at the old slides and prints, I think that old Signet camera did a fantastic job of capturing those memories to be shared and passed on to Disney fans and family, friends, etc. I hope to someday try my hand at using the camera, too. It seems so much simpler than my Nikon F5 film camera and my Nikon D810. I wonder if we -- photographers and camera manufacturers -- have complicated the joy and art of photography with the complexities of too many dials, settings, gadgetry and gizmos in our attempts to get that "perfect shot". Anyways, thanks for the Signet review.

    • @Dred242
      @Dred242 5 лет назад

      Sorry for the late response. You manually set the camera's ISO to match the film speed (ISO) of the film your using. If you're shooting in extremely bright conditions like full sun at the beach or a snowy ski trip, use ISO-100 or ISO-200 film. If you're shooting during a partly cloudy, overcast day (or outdoor dark & shady areas) shoot with ISO-400 film. When shooting indoors use ISO-400 film with a flash. The ISO (film speed) is written on both the box that the film comes packaged in as well as on the metal film canister itself. Manually set the camera's ISO to match the ISO of the film and start shooting….have fun!

    The Ektar lens on this camera is reported to be a Tessar formula with four elements, capable of very high resolution. It is a pity Kodak put that squinty little finder eyepiece on the Signet 35, but they were in the habit of building other cameras that way too. The Kodak 35RF eyepiece is equally awful.

    Hi, very much enjoy your K1000 review. My stable of Pentax film are are a K1000 that had a CLA including the microprism screen swapped for the split view. Next is a K1000 SE (brown) that comes with a split screen, that split screen and brown skin are the only differences I can find from the K1000. Also, have a K2 again with microprism screen. The K2 is heavier than the K1000 and K1000 SE and it has mirror lockup along with other feature upgrades. For me the microprism screen is difficult to focus with especially wearing glasses. With these I use many K mount film lens purchased for a dime on a dollar. With an adaptor ring one can connect the older twist mount Takumar lans that is how my 35mm f/3.5 connects. Thus with the adaptor ring there are many excellent lens (manual) that perform quite well. Hope you find the above interesting. Oh, by the way. At 5:08 you state you are anxious to use your Olympus XA the upcoming year. Please be aware, anxious does not mean what people think it means. Anxious, think anxiety, dread, fearful, foreboding, and the like. Anxious comes from the Latin word Angere, to choke or strangle. The word you were looking for is “eager”, which means looking forward to something. Eager is a positive word, anxious is a negative word.

    I have two K1000s. I did a lot of photojournalism work with them in the late 1990s using Kodak Tri-X, just before digital kicked in. I'm just starting to experiment again with film using one of these, as well as a Minolta X700 I acquired recently. I find that shooting film offers an opportunity to experience and see the difference between full-frame 35mm photography and the reduced-size sensors that are in most consumer-level DSLRs that are still the only thing within the budget range of amateurs. I have a few good lenses, but the only way to see their full potential is with film.

    Hi, how do you guesstimate how many clicks for 120mm film if you use the 35mm back to cover the camera?

    • @Dred242
      @Dred242 6 лет назад

      You’re gonna count 35 clicks after each shot when shooting 35mm film in a 120mm Holga. But, as you work your way through the 35mm roll, the clicks you need will decreases by 1 click for every 3 shots. The film advance knob on a 120mm Holga makes about 24 clicks per full turn of the film advance knob - so that should work out to be about 1-1/2 turns for the first 12 35mm shots taken, and about 1 full turn for rest of the 35mm roll.

    • @Dred242
      @Dred242 6 лет назад

      There also a 35mm film adaptor kit you can buy to make it easy to shoot 35mm film in your 120mm Holga. The kit also includes a sticker that gets place on the film advance knob to help you advance 35mm film correctly. Do a goole search for "Holga 35mm Film Adaptor Kit for 120 Cameras"

    • @kelvinlow9041
      @kelvinlow9041 6 лет назад

      Thanks for your reply. I was surprised in getting a response as the latest video from this channel is 4 years back. I do have the adapter with the sticker you mentioned. Just that you mentioned in the video you use the 35mm back regardless of whether you shoot 120mm or 35mm film. So as per my original question, how do you guesstimate how many clicks if you shoot 120mm film since there's no window to see the number?

    • @Dred242
      @Dred242 6 лет назад

      I’m sorry, I’m so use to being asked about shooting 35mm in a 120 Holga that I gave you kinda the normal answer I always give when I’m asked about clicks….my apologies. I had a 6X6cm mask in my 120GN holga to shoot 12 exposures, the 6X6cm mask came with my Holga 120GN. The required clicks between shots do change - it was a bit of a pain in the neck remembering where I was in my count. As I worked my way through the 120mm roll the click count decreased by 1-2 clicks with each shot. I remember loading the film with about 40-clicks then taking my first shot. After that I did at least 35-clicks between the 1st and 2nd shots then reducing the clicks by 1-click after each shot until I got to exposure No.6. I then reducing my clicks after each shot by 2-clicks for the rest of the exposures until the end of the roll. I’ve always believed that the number of clicks are the same or at least close to being the same no matter what type of film you shoot in a 120 Holga…ie 35mm or 120mm. Also remember that as the film is being pulled or unrolled from the spool while shooting it requires more clicks between frames to maintain the proper spacing to avoid overlapping of frames. After reaching the half-way point of the roll the clicks required are less - this help keep the frames from being too far apart thus waisting film. My recollection of the actual click count may be off a bit because it was a long time ago and I no longer shoot with my Holga 120GN so you should be prepared to experiment with a roll or two of film before you commit yourself to this process. Here’s a link to a website with a few charts to help you better understand how the click counting works - scroll down the “Holga with 6X6 mask” chart. photondetector.com/tools_ref/135-advance/

    some of these can be quite valuable, especially the military paint ones: www.ebay.com/itm/KODAK-SIGNET-35-US-AIR-FORCE-MODEL-KE-7-1-MILITARY-low-serial-USA/142619301681?hash=item2134c5d731:g:OLIAAOSw5VtaK1Op

    just got the waist level viewfinder. I like it, however I've noticed it's much harder to focus with my 150mm and 200mm lens. the 75 mm and 50mm are fine... with the prism every lens seems easier. do you have any other lenses than the 75mm? if so, have you noticed the same thing?

    Thanks for posting this detailed review! I didn't know the different color ASA scale gave different shutter speeds. That's valuable info. I just got one of these and it seems to be in good shape. Probably because it was stored with the lens cap on to protect the selenium light meter cell. That's a good heads up to anyone looking for one to buy.
