Hey, I'm Eorzeon (thanks, hippie parents!). Final Fantasy 14 is my world, and I’m here to help you optimize your gameplay with custom layouts, tips, and tricks to make life in Eorzea easier and more fun.
I'm not sure whether I'm a "hardcore casual" or a "casual hardcore." But I've seen some stuff and some things, so let me share with you my wizzums, and you can teach me in kind.

"Should I level my jobs together?" FF14 Beginner's Guide | #finalfantasy14 #finalfantasyxiv
One of the first questions you have to ask as a new player is "what jobs do I want to play." I totally recommend ALL of them, but that can be daunting. Here's my advice for how to go about determining whether you should focus on one or two jobs, or do a big spread.
This also got me wondering why on Eorzea I ever made so many characters to find this all out...

It's time to finally answer the "how" in "How, Beloved Eorzeon, doth I make unto myself a collapsing or expanding job change menu and/or item and collectible menu like unto thine own?" You'd better believe I get asked that a lot-EXACTLY like that. Here I break down, in about as basic detail as I can muster, how to make such menus. I've been playing about a month and a half and I played Ninja to the early 50s when I swapped over to SAM which is now my main for MSQ. However on the side I'm also doing other classes and working on leveling all ARR classes to 30 to unlock jobs at the very least. I have made a flex main of AST though so I can heal as well.
Which is your favorite (most fun to play)? And how do you feel about focused leveling vs more spread out leveling? Love to have your thoughts Also, welcome to Eorzea! Hope it's to your liking.
I've played for quite a while, and still don't have more than 3 jobs above 90. It just hasn't been a priority. And yet, I never knew about the Neophyte Ring. @_@
No worries, Warrior of Light! Play the jobs you like. Of course, if you're *concerned* about the lack of levels, then there are ways to rectify that, but don't make it a chore. Also, the Neophyte's Ring is NEW, which is why many don't know about it. It's a patch 7.1 addition.
@@Eorzeon I absolutely agree, I haven't wanted it to be a chore, so I just play the content that's fun. It's the point after all! However I greatly appreciate the information on the new changes, I haven't had a chance to dive in to all of it yet. You deserve many more followers, may you ever walk in the Light of the Crystal. 💙
Aww, Roegadyn-sized thanks, friend!
Also, for the love of Menphina, don't stand in front of the boss! Regards, your local healer main.
Funny enough, Stone Vigil has so many times where it both overtly and subtly teaches you not to stand in front of this, whereas most dungeons beforehand don't even mention it. It's a big swing point. For example, dropping dragons with a frontal attack, the first boss's "Lion's Breath" and "Swinge", the second boss's tornados being very close to the front, and Isgebind's "Frost Breath".
@Eorzeon It's also decent introduction to "The Echo is not always going to be able to show you an attack's telegraph." I half wish Swinge still gave it's victims Pacification just to drive the point home that you should pay attention to the boss if you want to keep attacking.
I wouldn't mind if Stone Vigil got a rework like some ARR dungeons have, to focus on mechanics training for upcoming content. Before Stone, it's about learning your role, but here you have a good baseline for shifting the mindset. Clearer instruction could go a long way for new players.
@@Eorzeon They already reworked it for Duty Support compatibility so I'm not sure if that'll happen. All the bosses are a much more predictable dance now compared to how they were originally. Like, the second boss doesn't even resemble its original design. ARR dungeons used to be much more random and reactive.
Ah, yes, wasn't it underfoot targeting tornados? What I will say is that the recent Halatali rework did an amazing job for understanding upcoming/current mechanics and feeling more engaging (looking at you, Fire Sprite Boss #1...).
It's extremely dependent on the person. If the game is entirely new to you and you're still learning the basics, stick to the job you picked at the beginning. It's okay to play around with the other jobs to see if there's one you might like even more, but then stick to that one until you get more comfortable. Also important to keep in mind is that you only get to level each job once per character. If you want to level Monk again, you need to create a new character and do the ENTIRE MSQ on it all over again. Make it count, make sure you have fun while leveling. Don't feel rushed. The exp bonuses exist for those who want them, they aren't mandatory if you really want to make the most of your leveling experiences. Some activities that you can do while leveling other jobs include: - Hunting Log for all ARR classes - FATEs around the world - Weekly Challenge Log entries (unlocked at level 15 in the Drowning Wench of Limsa Lominsa) - Dungeons - Deep Dungeon (Palace of the Deep, Heaven-on-High, etc) - Field Operations (for 70+; Bozjan Southern Front) - Battle Levequests in A Realm Reborn (though not as efficient) - Always do your class and job quests; role quests from Shadowbringers onwards - Weekly Wondrous Tails (unlocked in Idyllshire) - Daily Allied Society quests (aka 'beast tribe'- or 'tribe' quests) - Daily roulettes
Absolutely the most important words here are "have fun." While I advocate learning and optimizing to save time and frustration, I 100% agree with you that the game should be a game. (Great list of EXP options, btw, thanks!)
I used to be a massive advocate for spread leveling, especially with road to 90 buff. But this time around for DT I went with one job per role quest, so 5 in total and even with the road to 90 buff that did take some extra work. But once I got there it was all worth it, and it makes leveling alt jobs, crafters and gatherers a breeze tbh. Because everything is unlocked and available for example my Warrior is leveling by my attempts at soloing Deep Dungeons, some of my classes are used to level my grand company squadrons and some of them are used for frontline roulette and pvp in general. All in all, they're all progressing pretty fast and since I spread out the activities they all feel fresh and unique, and even then I can at any time switch them around for a breath of fresh air. In the past I tried to use dungeons to level all jobs as I went along, and honestly? I burnt out, hard. Even with the road to 90 buff it just becomes to... obsessive for me. Better to finish the story imo.
I've had similar experiences. I generally find that spread leveling leads me to feel a sense of obligation to maintain balance, but I'm also very goal focused. When it becomes a chore, it's not fun. But people are so different! Some people love that kind of stuff.
My general strategy nowadays on my main is to play through an expansion with one class as to keep the story moving and then when I finish the currently available story to level so that I have a max level tank/healer and dps. After that I use more passive ways to level the rest(daily society quests, journals, etc.) If I’d ever start a second character I would likely keep a healer, tank and 1 or 2 dps within 2-5 levels of one another while going through everything so that I can easily switch to something else without it becoming a huge grind.
I definitely follow a similar pattern. I DID, however, find myself kind of "relying" on things like big XP drops from society quests instead of learning the jobs. That took quite a while to correct. But I don't think that's necessarily a problem-it helped me find which jobs I prefer even though I was leveling everything to see all my options.
By the way, certain EXP rewards are greater when you're higher level, such as Frontline bonus, Leveling Roulette, challenge logs, etc. These can help boost one class even further, and then later can be used to help with catching up.
It's worth mentioning that you also get a flat xp boost when there's a substantial difference between your highest-level job and the one you're currently running. This, as well as wanting earlier access to the jobs that unlock via level, can be a good reason to keep one job way out in front.
Mostly true! I only (very) briefly mentioned this by name, the Armoury Bonus. This is what's listed on consolegameswiki, and I've seen firsthand: "The Armoury Bonus is a bonus applied to EXP gained by combat classes when below the level of your highest class. The bonus is +100% for levels 1-89*, reducing to +50% for levels 90-100. Despite what the in-game Active Help entry implies, this bonus does not otherwise change depending on the discrepancy between levels. This bonus only applies to defeating enemies and FATE rewards. Other sources of experience, such as completing Duty Roulettes, are not affected." *may change, depending on max level Funny enough, this can help *both* methods, as (and here's the only correction), there doesn't have to be any kind of spread between jobs to get the armoury bonus. Any job below your highest level job will get that 100% boost. I'm glad you mentioned this in greater detail!
What game is this?
Final Fantasy 14! It's an online RPG featuring 20 someodd combat classes and 11 working classes, and you can be all of them with a single character. A free trial up till level 70 with 3 story arcs, which is insane. I absolutely recommend it whether you're a social gamer or solo player. freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/na/
I'm confused
In a nutshell, the game has over 700 hotbars at your disposal (updated for crafting and gathering classes). With the way you can build macros, you can utilize any of those hotbars on any class, like a menu. You can use it for all sorts of things like job changing, items, and emotes. Is there a particular point in the video I can elaborate on better?
Dont really have anything to add here as this doesnt super apply to me. though on my "solo only" copycat alt im doing spread leveling so thats fun. anyway im just making this comment for *user engagement* #leveling #advice #nonbias
Hey, awesome to have your thoughts What do you like most about spread leveling?
@@Eorzeon Mostly just messing around. I like being able to mess around. its mostly because im taking my time and now worried about finishing the msq
I'll say it often: "Games are for fun"
I'm a serial alt-aholic and I tend to pick a "main" job to use through the MSQ until I reach the patch content of any given part of the game and then take a break to level the other jobs I want. I find this to be the most effective way to do it because while you're leveling your other jobs to catch up to your main you can farm Poetics for gear for them (obviously this applies less in ARR but for the expansions it's helpful) that way once you reach whatever the level cap you're expected to be at for whatever end game content is available you'll have the best gear available already once you reach it.
Oh man, Poetics was one of the big things I was going to mention and just forgot to script it. Yeah, that helps immensely, not just to gear your main as you level the lowers, but also unlocking them sooner and being able to use MSQ roulette for massive xp and poetics for lower classes. Dare I ask how many alts...?
@Eorzeon Oh babe. It's a problem. I've reached the max limit at least twice and had to send many I had long abandoned to the shadow realm.
Oh my! The Eorzeon Recovery Center for Alt Addiction won't be open for a few years at least. I pray you make it until then. Until that day, I'll assume any Duty Finder party I'm in has at least one of you, and will be asking for donations to fund the center. To be fair, though, any dungeon you run is likely to have one of my characters, too. #notanaltaholic
@@Eorzeon Any given character you see in the open world with a Chocobo named 'Rex' is probably me. You can hound me for donations I won't give you then. 😋
This was really cool! I wouldn't use it for my set-up because I'm this deep into another macro system and it would be such a mess to redo it all. But I have mine set-up that if I click the "Forward page" button on the side of my mouse (Mouse Button 4) it switches to HUD layout 2 where I've hidden or shrunk down every UI element except Hotbars 7, 8, 9, and 10. Then I have each job listed out according to role, with an icon of that job to act as a divider if they share a row. So it looks like this: (Tank Icon), Paladin, Warrior, Dark Knight, Gunbreaker, (Healer Icon), White Mage, Scholar, Astrologian, Sage (DPS Icon), Monk, Dragoon, Ninja, Samurai, Reaper, Viper, (DPS 2 Icon), Bard, Machinist, Dancer (DPS 3 Icon), Black Mage, Summoner, Red Mage, Pictomancer, Blue Mage, (Gatherer Icon), Miner, Botanist, Fisher (Crafter Icon), Carpenter, Blacksmith, Armorer, Leatherworker, Goldsmith, Weaver, Alchemist, Culinarian, Casual/Seasonal Glam Each job name is a macro coded to use the job stone as the icon (or the loadout icon for the crafters and gatherers), switch me to that job, and switch me back to Hud Layout 1 when clicked. Additionally, the following are macro'd on their specific job(s): Tanks all use their Stance after 1s Scholar automatically summons its Fairy after 1s Astrologian automatically draws its first set of cards after 1s Sage automatically Kardia's myself after 1s Monk automatically fills its chakra gauge after 1s Reaper automatically uses Soulsow after 1s Dancer automatically partners my Chocobo after 1s Summoner automatically summons its Carbuncle after 1s And that's my macro set-up for job swapping.
That's super cool. Your own creation, or following a guide? (Feel free to link if so) I may snag some of those ideas. I use my side buttons for modifiers, but I could use my current gewarset list keybind to open something like this. One thing I had never thought to do was Dance Partner my chocobo! That's 11/10
@@Eorzeon I think it was inspired by another guide similar to yours, many many years ago. But the actual work and everything was done by me one day without help other than Googling macro commands. I just got tired of opening my gearset listed to change jobs everytime and didn't want to have a whole corner of my screen occupied with job icons like I see some streamers do.
@MissLilianae if you feel so inclined to share, feel free to send pics of it in action to eorzeon@gmail.com, and maybe we can showcase it for others. Up to you, of course
@@Eorzeon That'd be dope! Tonight's my off night, but I'll see about getting some pics tomorrow to send your way.
this was really helpful. is there a way you could let us copy/paste the lines in the macros?
Awesome! Yes, I just updated the video description to include the needed lines. Let me know if I need to format it differently.
@@Eorzeon you went above and beyond! thank you
"Above-and-Beyond" is my middle name! ...not compensating for my height 😭
I've used some sort of expandable job menu for ages and have only grown to love it more. Do you add anything fancy to your job changes?
hotbar copy macro example! /e copies archer's non-shared 4th hotbar to the 7th shared hotbar /hotbar copy archer 4 share 7 included to consolidate crafter job hotbars /e copies Goldsmith's hotbars onto the current job /e Switch to each of your crafter jobs and use the macro to synchronize hotbars /hotbar copy goldsmith 1 current 1 /hotbar copy goldsmith 2 current 2 /hotbar copy goldsmith 3 current 3
at the same time?!?
If you want to go REALLY crazy, you can make one button reveal multiple hotbars and the cross hotbar. Heck, if you want to go REALLY REALLY crazy, you could make stacking layers, one hotbar reveals a sub menu that reveals other menus. Entirely impractical, but very fun.
XD I just watched a video earlier partially on this and this popped up which explained alot on WHY we use certain things, time to go back and watch the how now -- because i'm outta hotbars and didn't know wtf how or why
Not to worry, I'll also be delving into the more technical how-tos as soon as I get back from my vacation in Southern Thanalan.
...aaaaaand here it is: ruclips.net/video/X3tgSHTUkr8/видео.html
DoH/DoL classes, so often forgotten :p
:O!! Gotta find a power level gif and make an update!
And just how many bars does that add? Well... ruclips.net/user/shortsZ9oSZ69-PX8
I mean yeah. That's how most people on controller divy it up i feel. There's always a little vatiation though. My default personally is single, Aoe, class mechanic, unique, with utility interwoven based on relvancy to the skills around it. Specifically in relation to dps. Healers have a different spread.
(Man I so often forget people play on controller) In other words, using this macro and a trigger are essentially changing the scene in which buttons appear. The related video definitely focuses more on mouse and keyboard options, but I'm curious about making improved systems for controller, too. If you have any resources to share, feel free to comment them on a video or email them to eorzeon@gmail.com.
Less buttons?
Can you clarify this a bit? Like, did you mean you wish the game had less buttons, you use less buttons than the game gives, or you feel like this makes it feel like you have less buttons?
this channel is actually fire.
Aww, thanks, fellow Warrior of Light! (Unless you mean the dumpster variety, in which case LOOK OVER THERE *uses Hide*)
Plainsfolk are supposedly very intelligent, so I think I mathed correctly. I DARE you to try and fill all these with useful stuff!
That's really interesting... may try for Dancer. I hate setting up the hotbar because of the Single/AOE rotations have so many buttons
Funny enough, I don't use this swapping system on 1) Healers (no real benefit), 2) Blue Mage (too many options to matter), and 3) Dancer! However, if it works for you, then I'm happy.
@@Eorzeon Gotta ask then, does Dancer rotation just work for you with the number of buttons? I guess maybe it just feels clunky to me
I like in the PVP mode the flourishes are assigned to the same button when they light up -- wish you could enable in regular gameplay
@mightylotan yeah so my dancer setup is on 1-2-3-4, because 1 procs 3 and 2 procs 4 iirc. So if I used the swap method, it'd just be 1-2-3-4 again. But because all my other attacks are already easily accessible on Q, E, R, F, etc., I have nothing to put on my main bar. So I just use Alt + 1-2-3-4 for AoE, since nothing else changes. I think I have like the single target fan dance and aoe fan dance on like E and Alt + E, but most of the others are already aoe anyway.
What a nice idea. Thanks gor sharing!
You're welcome! Anything else you're curious about in the realm of FF14?
@Eorzeon not really, I'm a veteran myself 🙃 I'm just curious how different people are playing. I made an interactive 3x4 menu using this same technique, a few years ago, with several stoneless jobs' hotbars but bound to my numpad. I think people would be interested to see this as well, instead of getting lost in several menus to switch jobs, food, crafts, waymark, etc. Hit me up if you want to see 🙃
I'm of the opinion that more info and options is always better for mmo players. If it's something that you can make a video about, I say go for it! (Or, you can share me some screenshots and I can incorporate them into a video about various hotbar systems, perhaps.)
I'm not into video making 😅, but I'd gladly share with you, is there anywhere I can contact you?
Eorzeon@gmail.com
Or just use modifier keys???
Absolutely use modifier keys for your aoes if you have a quality mouse with side buttons that don't misfire. Back then, I had issues with muscle memory and I didn't have any side buttons. Shift and Control were also very difficult for me to both remember and manage, and sometimes that meant trying to reach something like "control 5/6" which was very clunky. I was already using Alt. Even after recovering, I still use this because my side buttons misfire, and sometimes I just hit the wrong one. I've never found Shift on a keyboard to be comfortable. Ultimately, you've gotta play what works, and this may work better for someone else, too. 👍
@Eorzeon you know what...i completely forgot that not everyone uses an MMO mouse lol From my own experience using keyboard i can definitly appreciate how this way od doing it might help people.
🤣 it's so easy to forget what used to be when you get something better! Do you use a full-button set mouse or just a couple side buttons? I've got some friends who use like a 3x4 button grid on the side of their mouse and while I'm like "what even is that!" they love it
This idea can help if you have a hand injury, disability, tiny hands, the world's largest keyboard causing unfortunate reaching problems, etc. How do you manage single target vs. aoe?
