Turn 26 December 14th 1941. With the fierce Russian winter upon us we manage to push ahead cautiously. The Soviets attack all along the front and for the most part we hold our ground inflicting 99,000 plus losses.

Turn 25 December 7th/1941. With the Soviets receiving 500,000 men on the previous turn, we nevertheless keep our foot on the front foot and attack. All that remains to be seen is how we hold up against the inevitable Soviet onslaught.

Turn 24 November 30th 1941. With snow dictating the scale and scope of our operations we still manage a few small victories. The knowledge that the Soviets will receive 500,000 men clearly affects our battlefield decisions. Hopefully our defensive positions will come to our aid all along the front.

Turn 23, November 23rd 1941. Even with blizzard conditions we manage 40 sorties in the air, as a result we have some eyes on the front lines. We attack sparingly but with purpose and further complicate the Soviets situation.

Turn 22, November 16th 1941. With weather conditions of snow, light snow or heavy snow, we pick of spots carefully to avoid undue losses. All in all we still manage to inflict more defeats on the Soviets.

Turn 21 November 9th 1941. The air gives us a reprieve which provides our ground forces with valuable recon. The ground has begun to freeze, hence the mud is no longer an issue. We continue ramping up the pressure in key points along the line, forcing the Soviets to continually reposition.

Turn 20 November 2nd 1941. Of note Smolensk is taken finally, before you ask, Odessa still holds out. All air operations are grounded and heavy mud forces us to be selective in our attacks. The Soviets probe our line but we deny them every time.

Turn 19 October 26th 1941. The weather totally negates our Air, as in not a single plane does any recon or engages in combat. The heavy mud is a huge setback, but we still manage to cost the Soviets 11 more units. AGC surrounds Smolensk and it is now isolated. AGN inches closer to Leningrad.
How do you like the 1.1 update?? I haven't been able to dig in myself but I'm excited about the highways

no i have not played this yet but may look into it, i posted about five turn's of eastern front, have you seem any of them?
I took a brief look, looks like an old DOS game. At it's core it is much the same, the counters, the gameplay. What other wargames do you play? @@jamesavery3559
a few old school games like crusade in europe, battalion commander, and some others, eastern front is supposed to be unwinnable on the expert levels.

It was probably much higher but to be honest I never checked or at least I cannot recall, maybe 19,000 ish. I switched out gear and skills and such that's why such a discrepancy. Thx for watching.

Well I don't know of any American Football Manager type games but if you are into baseball there is OOTP 24. Same kind of depth as this, perhaps even more.

Hey, nice series! I was wondering how your plan is to capture odessa. I besieged the city for 2 months now but they keep getting supplys even tho I bomb the port every day. What does naval ops mean? I used to do naval patrol with Heinkel bombers and aerial mines but no result. They cannot be isolated and they have 9 rifle Division inside the fortress no way of getting thru for me without destroying there supplies but how?
I was pretty much just wondering if you have any tips for siege operations? I also got the 600mm mortars down to odessa along with lots of heavy artillery but they do very little damage to the fort and it repairs about 10% strengh every week. Its and endless material wasting spiral for this stupid city very frustrating. 30% of my heavy artillery including the both 600mm mortars have already been destroyed.......
The same ones you are conducting. I just put either the Romanian or Hungarian on Naval patrol. I recommend you watch matteo bosseo. I will give you the link, he will set you on the right path. It all begins on Turn 1, involving pioneers to the 12th army and more. Anyway he gives a great tutorial on besieging, odessa, leningrad and sevastopol. Hope this heps, and thanks for watching. hey, did you have a biuld guide for your soldier build?
No I have just been adapting as I go. Watched a couple of vids, so as to start with a powerful skill ( Forcewave ), I then knew I preferred Two-handed weapons and so used gear along the way that suited, especially stuff that added to Forcewave and Blade Arc, among other Soldier skills. Never done a build guide perhaps I should. Thx for watching have a great day.
Grim Dawn has so much build flexibility. Play how you like to play, most builds are viable. Just focus on one or two damage types and have high resists and life. You should be good. Have fun.

Thxs, it says its hearts of iron 3 but I know it isn't hoi3 lmao. I like games like this with the divisions and stuff, makes micromanaging so much better and strategy way more in depth.@@KHarling

Unfortunate!! The situation around Kharkov, which looked rather promising a few turns ago, is now getting dangerous. Everywhere else seems to be holding for the most part. Will you pull back to a new defensive line in the south or hold what you have?
The move will be contingent upon my assessment of what the Soviets may do. I recognize that its guessing but at least partially educated. I do not want to give up much ground, unless their is a more favorable defensive position ie. terrain. Thanks for the input.
Good point; almost all minor rivers are frozen and East Ukraine is dominated by hundreds of clear hexes. It will not be east to hold the soviets. Good luck and I look forward to future episodes. BTW, if you ever decide to look for a multiplayer game, I would be more than happy to be your opponent. @@KHarling

I'm more experienced with the Soviets (2 multiplayer grand campaigns) so I prefer to play them. I, however, have played both sides (1 Axis Stalingrad to Berlin). I'm rather new to the WitE 2 but I think we could have an interesting game. I maintain that multiplayer is the peak gameplay experience of WitE 2. Ultimately, the choice of sides is yours. LMK what you think of this ruleset: -Fog of War: On - Movement FOW: On - Lock HQ support: On - Automate AI air assist: No preference - Enhanced Player TB control: Off but negotiable @@KHarling

You’re making good headway toward Kharkov and Rzhev but I think the weather will halt your advance. I’d say just dig in and hope for a good ‘42 offensive.
I was thinking the same thing. At some point the Germans have to hunker down and rest/refit. The winter is as much an enemy as the vastness of Russia. I do like the progress towards Kharkov. Thanks for the comment and advice.

I have played Operation Typhoon and know all about the Soviet counterattack. But I have inflicted steep looses against them and hopefully not wastefully expended my troops, Panzers etcetera. Only time will tell and thanks for the comment and watch. Peace.

How many counters are in there? That must be at least 500K, that'll be a lot of exhausted units in AGS by the time that's cleared out.
Not sure on exact numbers, but if I divide the fighting among different corps, we should be fine.
Would you ever consider taking a few screenshots and posting them on Imgur with a short caption? It would make it a lot easier to follow along with your plans and thoughts. That is a VERY large body of men down there in AGS!

I think it might be curtains - there just weren't enough chances created to surround and destroy Soviet units, and once they've got a solid wall in place it's impossible to break through. Still, let's see how much we can hold onto and make off with anything not nailed down!
Many lessons learned which I will put to good use in my next attempt. Much like June 22nd, the initial gains are vital to success. I have a better plan for the next go around. I agree btw. Peace.

Are you planning to give the troops fighting near Tula a rest or are they driving straight for Mosow? You must have a hell of a lot of units with fatigue now - probably why you lost so many panzers on that infantry division in the woods you attacked.
stubborn at times, I debated it, anyhow, live and learn, will do better next time out lol. We'll see 5 turns-ish left.

Very detailed game i must say it says the game is HOI3 but the GUI does not look anything similar to HOI3 or HOI2, What game is this?

Oof! That pocket around Vyazma will hurt, but I think those routed elements might come back to bite you if they have time to recover - really they would have been best kept in the pocket to be liquidated. Enjoying the watch - is there any chance you could annotate with your thoughts on certain plays or decisions as you go through? I've been trying to convince myself to finally play the game but it's such a huge task that I keep chickening out!

Well done - looks like you're through the first line, but if the Soviets are able to fall back on those then you'll have a hard time getting through. How confident are you of achieving the kind of encirclements you need to isolate and destroy enough counters to make the attack successful?
