I so wonder why he included what appears to be Janus in “The Reign of Comus.” Having a two-faced, two-aged figure standing under a pillared structure can hardly be a coincidence, right? I mean, why put that, specifically, in a painting about a *Greek* god? it seems to to convey something beyond simple renaissance syncretism, to me.

I am so excited as I will live A dream I have had for the past 25yrs...On Sept 15th 2024 I will enter Florence and see Donato's work ...overwhelming...

One should learn pronunciation before attempting such a task. Italian is a beautiful, phonetic language. This is unacceptable. Sorry.

I was so lucky to be there at the time when they were restoring the frescoes of the Tornabuoni Chapel in the church of Santa Maria Novella back in 1987 when I was attending the courses of "Restoration of Monuments and Historical Centers" in Florence. in the right side all the way up and to the left, there is the baptism of Christ and we were there up the scaffolding right in front of 2 angels discovered to be painted by Michelangelo when studying painting under Ghirlandaio, I touched the figures of course...!! Cimabue is pronounced Chee-ma-BOO-ay. In Italian, C followed by an I or an E is pronounced CH, and the accent in most words is on the penultimate syllable.

It would have been helpful to match the images above to Vasari's descriptions, where the works referenced still exist.
