Those mediterranean boats are the strongest ones in the world, because the mediterranean sea is the hardest, due to its globally parrallel north and south shores, that induces very hard harmonic waves. They are made of Oak wood, and look how close the chords are...

My Father was a boat builder in the UK. He was in Ramsgate during the war building and repairing the MTB boats. I wanted to build boats when I left school, but he talked me out of it as he said fibreglass will see the end of timber boats. I regret I followed his advice.
