The HES 1006CAS is a unique strike made for deadbolt recapture. Because of this function, the keeper of the strike is "springed" so that it stays open once powered. The deadbolt catches the recapture bracket and shuts the strike as the door closes. This is opposite of standard HES 1006 models that are "springed" to snap shut after the door opens. the adjustment at 1:14 - Does that slide the strike over or what does it adjust?
Informative but boring. Needs more photos/pictures. And maybe to get to the pont a smidge.
I still have no idea what an electric strike does and I install doors.
It allows you to electronically unlock/lock a door using a something that controls the flow of electricity
Professional? 🤔That cut is a mess, thankfully you are able to cover up most of it.
Does it make contact or disconect when the door is closed. Thanks
🙄 *Promo sm*
Im trying to figure out in what condition you would have a panic bar on a door and need/want a fail safe strike? 🤔 Fail Safe Trims seem much more likely so the door can still latch. But I’m sure there is a use for that somewhere. Cool video. Thanks!
Great point and thanks for watching! Fail Safe electric strikes are typically used on a limited basis, but most often we see them used in fire escapes and points of re-entry. An example of this would be areas like multi-story buildings that require stairwell re-entry. The fail safe option ensures that if the path of egress is blocked half way down the stairwell, a user can enter the floor they are on and move to another stairwell for egress purposes. The good news is that most HES electric strikes are field convertible from fail secure to fail safe operation, so it’s important to understand how to appropriately convert the strike so that it functions as intended.
What happens when the deadbolt is out and the door closes? Now the door is propped because the deadbolt is hitting the stike lip?
Excellent question and thanks for watching! The deadbolt function is intended to act like a night latching function when the deadbolt is thrown and the bracket in the electric strike holding the bolt in place. In bathroom applications, this functions similar to a privacy function so that someone can’t open the door while you are using the restroom until the bolt is retracted again. If you are interested in an electric strike that is capable of recapturing a deadbolt when it is fully projected as the door opens and closes, the HES 1006CAS is your best option. With this model, the keeper of the electric strike is held open until the deadbolt (up to 1 inch) makes contact with the bracket on the inside of the pocket which then releases the keeper and allows the strike to relock. Here is a quick side by side comparison of a standard HES 1006 and the 1006CAS used for deadbolt recapture: ruclips.net/video/PeGHAWIjDWs/видео.htmlsi=s1IEfiNSsoJWXaBQ
This was some good information.
You left out how you removed the back/dust box.
Not Bad, Roger.
iwhere could we installed the dps, in the strike jamb or in Hinge jamb?
on the hinge jamb. See 0:40.
You should try not to swallow so much, or just edit your video. Lots of good information but i couldnt finish the video. Was disgusted by your constant swallowing sound.
Looks like a great lock please send me a sample "door lock tips" so I can test it out and showing it on my RUclips channel
Someone please explain, this supposed to be a lock or something?
It's an electric strike that mounts onto the door frame.
badged doors usually.
What is the blue, yellow, and brown pigtail for? There is no literature provided about the purpose of said pigtail.
The locked state monitoring pigtail is comprised of blue/yellow/brown wires. This is only available as a factory configured option (look for “LMS" or "DLMS” at the end of the part number). HES uses the same color standards for locked state monitoring across their strikes: the brown wire is common while the blue wire is normally open (NO) and the yellow wire is normally closed (NC). If you have additional questions, please reach out to our fast and friendly tech support team by calling 800-626-7590 or connect via the ASSA ABLOY Customer Support app.
So it has a door position sensor built in.. nice.
The swallowing of saliva every 1 minute is distracting and irritating. It's driving me crazy. Dude. Didn't anyone give feedback? Helpful videos non the less. Thank u.
This is really helpful!
What is the name of the tool, and attachment, that you use to cut the frame? Thanks for the video.
Dremel Ultra-Saw
@@TheTraakon thanks
Give this man a mute "cough/swallow" button and a bottle of water.
Foreal.
So true!!! I couldn't watch the whole video. Disgusting swallowing sound.
just the video I needed before heading to the store! thanks!
Awesome Video
Ty for sharing
Ok. Because the weather seal on the door frame, the door pushes outward thus the door latch is pressing the inside opening latch of the strike. So the door doesn't open right away when you scan the card. You have to push the door first and then pull the door to open it after you scan the card. Any ideas how to solve this problem? I really think it is the design flaw. I used 1600CS.
Take weather seal off worst case, or move strike away from door in frame
Is that a plug the Lcn 4040 pa😂
I watched it again. Hacksaw? Not a good video in my opinion.
I use a 3" cutoff wheel 1/16 or thinner with a Metabo GE700 1/4 inch Die grinder. (Hold firmly and take your time) Dremel will not last and is not at all efficient if you install any . Today I installed 7) 8500 Strikes with the 852L for Schlage 9000 Series Mortise lock. I pulled the knock down 3 piece door frame (strike side) after the carpenters told me " you dont want to take those frames out". The frame were easy without removal. However the 14 guage 2X6 studs were a PITA. After doing 1 frame with a SC3 Tungsten Carbide Burr bit to hog out the studs they had already drilled a bunch of 1" holes in the studs to make thier strike plate and plastic back box fit. Im thinking.....Why in the hell didnt you cut the stud "before" you installed the 100 plus frames. The face of the frame has an aluminum trim that snaps on. You can look in my preps and the look like they were machined from the manufacturer. They were "Timely" brand frames. The 8500 Series prevented me from having to cut into the Aluminum trim. Be aware that the 8500 is a body only. You must order the face plate and deadlatch release lever seperatley. Each Lock brand hasd a different part number. I love the 8500 series! Im not to keen on the 8300 series for cylindrical locksets.
I use a dremel and I love it. Works just the way I need it to. No crazy runaways like with an angle grinder. I also use a metal blade on an oscillating tool, which also works great.

Good Advice. I use my rotary tools, both corded and cordless, for a variety of frame, strike & door modifications. When possible, I specify the HES 8000 series that does not require frame modification :)
