What Rama had got to do with Prahlada Avatar or Vijayam? Doesn't sound right. I don't understand.

I was not that much into our music back in the 1980's. Here came Sri KS Gopalakrishnan, one of the best pullamkuzhal vidwans in the esteem company of Sri M Chandrasekaran and Guruvayoor Dorai saar. There was a house kutcheri in the New Jersey state in the USA. I lived in Long Island, New York state -- about 2 hour car drive deoending on traffic. I arrived at the house few minutes before the kutcheri and sat on the floor. In came an elegant lady, Mrs R K Laxman[at that time she was no longer married to Sri Laxman], and sat next to me. She was curious about my notewriting. I guessed "Nandu vidachi" and Reethigowla. She was all happy for me as we talked in the car when I gave her a lift. "Vandanamu" with the sweetest sahitya is such a delightful Sahana song !! Dorai saar's mridangam made both KSG and MC saar enormously happy.

"Daya rani" I heard for the first time was from the great Nedunuri Krishnamurthy mahavidwan. It was good then, and it's good now. Mohanam and Thyagarajaswamikal!! "Vivarimpa tharama? " Explain to me the whold scenario behind your "Anandam!" Anandam and Mohanam go hand in hand , I guess that's why he chose Mohanam for this song. I am not an expert, and just indulging in some septuagenarian guess game. Some mental play as I listen along Smt Vidya who used to team up with Smt Brinda Manickavasakom vidushi. Now, each is on her own; I bet they keep in touch and go on being friends. Reethigowla and what? "Ragaratnamaikache?" "Dwaitamu sukhama Adwaitamu sukhama"? I don't know too much about the theme of the kutcheri in context of the raga at hand. If it is a kriti I never heard before, then I know the connection of Reethigowla raga and the song. So much themes and so many contexts ... and then a vaggeyakara with the supreme intellect of Thyagarajaswamikal with all sorts of songs many with everyday experiences of any one blended into the sahitya. He was an everyday man and if an everyday man gets to appreciate Carnatic music, he/she shall appreciate him more, I guess. Nannu vidachi !!! I get it -- now.
