Age is a factor mate. These guys are nearly 80 !! We should really appreciate the fact that they are performing live and touring around the world at such an age. Not everything is about being magnificent or flawless. We all know these guys are legends and all the brilliant performances they have given us in the past. We are lucky to witness such maestros in action. Even though they are not in their best form, its a honour to watch them live specially for those who have inspired so many indian classical enthusiast around the world over so many decades. So please stop being an armchair pundit and be open minded about such things. I guess you find Badshah and Honey Singh tuneful or the GenZ indian classical wannabes. Its definately a sad world we are living in.

@r.c.g8272 Let's learn to put certain things in context before putting down a comment. Having been present at this concert, I can assure you that this was a tragically mismatched pair. Others who attended would attest to the fact that there seemed to be no tangible connection between the two other than the fact they had committed, ostensibly against remuneration, to perform. To make matters worse, Swapan C's known ineptitude as an accompanist was on full display here. If you really consider yourself to be any sort of a music critic, you should bring yourself to comment on his appalling ektaal theka. Or what about the drut teentaal theka where he's almost at risk of throwing Amjad's jhaala off pattern? Is this the sort of sangat expected from someone feted as the last of the greats? And since you're commenting on Amjad, he is certainly not at his best but even to play this much at 80 with Lord Chaudhuri dozing by your side is a fete worth commenting. And talking of going besura, should I point out videos of Ali Akbar playing swaras unrecognizable by the universe? or Vilayat crooning like a lovelorn gargolye in the name of sitar playing or Aashish Khan showing us the wonders of playing sarod with claws? I'd like to see how you or I type on a keyboard, leave alone sing or play, when we reach 80.

@@DNoizyGuy_sagnik haha you are at least not disputing Khansahab's unbearable tunelessness here. That's a good start. I am not denying or debating that you or many others feel honoured at seeing a well known musician from the past in flesh and blood. Nor did I suggest that all music needs to be magnificent or even flawless, only that it needs to be in tune. My only contention was that this was some truly tuneless music. That's about it. Take a walk if you continue to feel sore and I hope you feel better soon.

@@Trex0891 Tragically mismatched pair? What about the entire hoo-haa about the perfect spontaneity of Hindustani music? Swapan is known to be a more than competent accompanist. But I will give you the benefit of your presence at the concert (thank heavens you didn't get up on stage and remove poor old Swapan, given your uncontrolled vitriol!), and let us say Swapan was deliberately derailing Khansahab. But the main problem here is that while a bad/ aggressive accompanist could make you lose your laya (if you are not as adept as Amjad Khansahab once was), or your interest (this will hardly take anything, cuz Amjad has not been interested in his music for a VERY very long time), but how does he make you lose your ability to play in tune?? I consider myself no music critic - god knows the crap that critics get away with. Khansahab has not been at his best for about three decades now btw. If it is merely to see that an 80 year old can do these things with a sarod - you are not there for the music but for a circus act - look an elephant can ride a tri-cycle or a parrot can shoot a pistol kind of a thing. In fact, if that is your peculiar pleasure, I highly recommend you attend a Hariprasad Chaurasia concert as soon as you can. Sure all fine musicians have a bad day - Ali Akbar and Vilayat included. Your thunder and lightning only seems to be in agreement with my original comment! Finally, I can assure you I would be very disinclined to see you type on a keyboard now, much less when you are 80. As a gesture of kindness, I could also suggest to you what I have suggested to that honoured guy in the comments above - go take a little walk to soothe your nerves.

@@r.c.g8272 So you telling me its truly tuneless? Are you being serious? There were some off notes hear and there but not 'completely' tuneless and I would definately cut some slack because of the age. Ive been in the music and audio post industry for quite some time and also learnt the sarod for 10 odd years so I can completely trust my ears in what is in-tune or "truly tunelessness" And this was not completely tuneless at all. Ive heard way worse and unbearable performances by maestros than this but I won't name them because I dont want to be disrepectful nor I would pass such comments on social platforms. If we dont like it, we dont watch it. If you consider yourself an indian classical enthusiat and not just a superficial listener then Im sorry to say that your choice of words in expressing your feeling about this performance is really unsophisticated. Pease come up with better words even if you feel the performance was bad specially if you consider yourself an Indian classical music lover. Do you write such comments on every bad tuneless performances that you see on youtube? Im guessing you do. Or maybe you dont know the meaning of tuneless. I would really love to know what music or performances according you is some of the most tuneless. And no thanks...im not sore. A healthy debate always makes me feel good.
