1- Purgatory comes from scriptures which were ruled to not be of divine influence. Even got cut from the Catholic canon only continuing in texts considered part of the faith but not part of the bible. Because of that when following Sola Scriptura it heavily damages the concept of purgatory. Additionally those who don’t believe or follow any purgatory doctrine argue that the concept makes Christs payment on the cross unnecessary and thus a heresy. At best with Sola Scriptura purgatory can be argued as a holding place for sinners before Christs payment on the cross. 2- The way Sola Scriptura is defined is as through scripture alone arguing that doctrine should be made solely on what the scriptures say and not anything else. There are cases of early church leaders using Sola Scriptura before the term was coined going roughy as far back as 200 AD. Difference is back then scripture and tradition were the things they based all decisions on with leaders usually using a mixture of both or just scripture alone. Making doctrinal rulings based on current political situations, info found from other faiths, and supposed divine revelations randos get were never seen as sound to the church. Personally I think if the early church leaders seen the current status of the church they’d accept Sola Scriptura to prevent current issues in the church. 3- This issue risen in the 16th century when Martin Luther noticed an issue with current doctrine. Back then there was a growing belief among catholics that you can achieve salvation without Christ by doing enough good deeds to outweigh the bad actions you’ve done. This is bad because it nullifies the reason Christ needed to die on the cross and thus a major heresy. Martin Luther in response to this heresy made by faith alone or Sola Fide in an attempt to respond to this issue. Basic idea is you can’t achieve salvation without having faith in God, claiming our justification comes not from works but from faith. In terms of scripture the doctrine is sound as the bible itself speaks against justifying one’s self through works but it also speaks against belief alone. Sola Fide is either a heresy or a core scriptural doctrine depending if your definition of faith is just strong belief or actions based upon belief.

Hey @monkeyman3485 , God (who is grace) gave us created grace which is a gift to give us the ability to even get to know God (this created grace is what saves us). This created grace breaks down into multiple categories and one of those is Faith. Faith breaks down into two subsets Belief and Works. You need to have both the belief in God and doing the works of God to have true faith in Him. Anyone can have that initial belief in God and truly believe in their heart that Jesus is God and is the only way to heaven) but if we don’t do the good deeds God asked of us do we truly have faith in him? Satan BELIEVES in God but doesn’t do his good WORKS of him, which means he doesn’t have faith in God. If I truly believe in someone wouldn’t I want to do what they asked me to do? In the end we aren’t saved by just works or just belief we need the created grace God gave us and to fully use that gift we need faith which is both belief (I believe in God) and Works (God tells me to be Christ like so I will act in such a way). Matthew 25:35-46 Truly I say to you as you did it to one of the least of these brethren you did it to me. (You should read the rest of Matthew 25:35-46 if you want a better idea, I just put a snapshot of what it’s saying) Luke 7:46-49 Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’ and not do what I tell you? (more specific Luke 7:46). James 2:17-26 explains the following: So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead (James, 17). You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith (James, 24). Romans 2:6-7 “For he will render to every man according to his works: to those who by practice in well-doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, he will give eternal life.” Revelation 22:12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.” I hope this brief explanation helped but a good resource if you want to understand further is to look up Catholic answers the RUclips channel and find when they talk about faith and works. Lol no the core issues which keep protestants from joining back up with the catholic church are: 1- Sola Fide not being accepted 2- Sola Scriptura not being accepted 3- Papalism being dominant in the catholic church Ironically enough the last is the biggest issue among baptists to the point that they’re more likely to convert to Orthodoxy. Actually it’s not as a denomination is defined as any Christian Sect with a governing body over it. Literally Baptism and Orthodoxy are the only denominations that can escape being denominations and even then Orthodoxy is the only one that can claim being pre denominational.

Orthodoxy on the other hand they do not protest against the Roman Church they actually see it as a true,valid, apostolic church they just don't agree with the authority of the Papacy.

Not true. We believe in the Holy Trinity and always have; somebody has misled you on Catholic-Christian teachings. The catechism of the Church says that while muslims worship the God of Abraham, they do it in a severely disordered way because they do not have a correct understanding of him (as seen by their rejection of Jesus Christ the Son of God and the Holy Spirit). Also, its a historical fact that Jesus founded the Catholic Church in 33 AD, making it historical unlike protestant Christianity which came around 1,484 years later. My brother in Christ, I would encourage you to learn more about the history of the early Christian Church - you might be in for a big surprise.
