@@antoniabuenawalker6834 Hey there! Nice to hear from you - thank you for your kind words. 😁🎶
Hahahaha too easy. Already knew the vegetable from the first two.
@@floridaman964 Ha Ha! It's a great one for kids because they just don't see it coming! 😂🎶
Another fascinating breakdown of another of my favorite arias. I realize some singers may take some artistic liberty, but I took particular interest in your explanation of the part with the rising crescendo (accurate description?), beginning about 25:55, and the following note/word, which often-times seems to get neglected. Many singers seem too caught up in making the rise and the high note the emphasis of that phrasing. Still, I somewhat enjoy some of their takes also. I like that you refer to, and have knowledge of the original scores, to help understand what the composer may have been looking for and feeling. Bravo!
@@MidwestMike100 Thank you so much - it's great to hear that you appreciated those subtle nuances, which are so often hard to describe! I hope you find other songs and arias here which you find engaging too. Glad you're here! 😁🎶
This is among my favorites arias. How fascinating the way you break it down, not only for ease in learning, but as to the structure and mechanics of the language and vocalizations. Now when I hear this performed, as well as other pieces, I will more appreciate the study and due diligence, as well as interpretation, a soloist puts into the art. Thank you. (I am not a singer, but a musician of sorts, and appreciate most forms of music.)
@@MidwestMike100 Hi, and a very warm welcome. I'm really glad you liked the video. I try to make my tutorials accessible for as many people as possible. You say you're not a singer....but maybe you'll feel inspired to have a go? I hope so! 😁🎶

@@MatthewThomas-ye1ei Wonderful. I bet you're making great progress! 😁🎶
Great tutorial! Just out of curiosity, when you say you would never have been casted in this role what specific characteristic are you referring to in your voice? And then what type of roles would you then consider yourself more typical in? Cheers!
@@user-db9a6rg8t Vocally, I'm really a coloratura, and don't have the "weight" for the dramatic roles. I certainly wouldn't have the vocal stamina for the entire role. Also, I'm pint-sized, so usually get cast in child/maid roles! 😁🎶
@@singingtips1 ah ok thanks for explaining! Been getting into opera singing recently and never realised how in depth the styles go, just assumed there was 4 singing voice types SATB and that’s it., very interesting :)
Also speaking of coloratura, maybe a future video on some tips for a male to do would be great! Things like having enough breath support for the full run and hitting the right notes are the things that bug me 😅
@@user-db9a6rg8t Sure! I can add that to the list. 😁🎶
@@user-db9a6rg8t Yes....it's actually quite involved. The Germans have a system of classifying voices called the "Fach" system. Each voice type (your SATB) has several sub-categories dependent on the particular timbres of the voice. 😁🎶
I like the way you teach thank you
@@marjakoopma thank you!! 😁🎶
Thank you for a wonderful tutorial. I love how you make this most feared and overly respected aria a go for singers that necessarily will never be singing the role. By this we stretch ourselves technically and dramatically and make opera music accessable and celebrated both by amateurs, listeners and professionals.
@@ann-mariedvardsenalexis8491 Thank you! I think as long as you don't try to weight your voice, you can really sing anything your heart desires. And yes....we need to do all we can to break down the real (and perceived) barriers around opera and it's accessibility/relevance etc. Thank you for singing with me! 😁🎶

OH MY GOODNESS! I have sung this aria a few times but never been happy with it. I always felt there was something lacking, so I was looking for a video of it being sung "properly", and found your site! I realise now I have not been phrasing correctly in some parts, so I was immensely interested in your video. I kept pausing and trying to emulate the things you talked about - pronunciation etc, but when I sang it with you, it was the ICING ON THE CAKE! I truly feel I have just had a personal lesson with you. My thanks are absolutely meant and I have now subscribed. I class myself as a Crossover Lyric Soprano, though my main genres are top movie songs and songs by "the divas", and musical theatre (my first love). But I do sing some, what I describe as "light" opera, and I now feel that up until now I have missed out, and that I now feel you are my personal coach. YOU ARE FABULOUS IN YOUR APPROACH.

Do you know what key this in? Im trying to find a karaoke version to sing for a competition but they all seem way high or low.
Hi. The original is G, going up to a top D. There are tracks in F on RUclips, but you'd need to check with the OP whether they'd be happy for you to use them publicly. Alternatively, you could get a custom made MP3 in a key of your choice. MP3 Accompanist is one you could look up. Also check your comp rules - sometimes they state that certain genres need to be in their original key. 😁🎶
So I didn't really know what perfect pitch is but I have it. I'm autistic and I read that autistic people are up to 500x more likely to have perfect pitch than neurotypicals. I used to play piano but I played almost everything by ear (and thought that was normal lol). I remember sitting at a friend's house and she was playing a song and I started playing along on the piano just based on what I heard. She was amazed and I was like "can't everyone do that?" No, apparently not. 😅 I want to buy myself another piano and get back into playing because it was so much fun. And now I have extra motivation to do so! This time I'll try to learn to read music as well. Thank you for the video!
