If to shaft is more that 20mm in any part, it won’t fit a standard 20mm hole. Your bench holes must be more than 20mm it which case most precision dog tools won’t work well.

Your test checks if the 2 edges are parallel. If both edges are sitting at 88 degrees you would pass your test but it still won't be square. You would need to check if the perpendicular edges are actually 90 to make sure it is square.

I'm sure you could sand or grind down the rail that goes into the track and make it work. But it should come ready to go out of the box.
